FYI They refer to their maid costumes as the Battle Armor!!!
NEXT - "Puzzle" fyi there are English Subs. The Lyrics are brilliant.

I love Freedom - particularly the live version and how much fun they seem to be having. That being said I’m not sure it would make it in my personal favorite top 30 of Band-Maid songs. Not a knock on the song - just shows how many great songs they have.
Some of the first ones I heard that absolutely hooked me when I initially stumbled on them were Blooming, Manners, Warning, Daydreaming, and Alone.
Their earliest stuff was written for them. Alone is the first written by the Maids that the label released iirc so is definitely worth getting to at some point if you want to see their evolution as songwriters. Yolo is amazing as well and followed shortly after I believe. From there they were off to the races. The others I mentioned all came later and were written by them.
Enjoy. Was fortunate to be able to see both Band-Maid and Dreamcatcher live in the last year. It’s been an awesome ride.

@@K-RossReacts The rest of the file for you.
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead.
Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition.
Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition.
Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music.
Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance.
And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD!
      ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!!
Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.

Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their TH-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill.
Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

What next, basically anything. I like this song because it’s fun to watch Akane beat the skins off her drum set, but this is what I would consider an otherwise “solid” band maid song. Pretty mid tier for me. I’d easily put 50 other tracks above this song.
Enjoy the ride, they’ll blow you away if you really enjoyed this one.
Warning, Manners, Domination, Dice, Sense, Puzzle, Blooming, moratorium, Play, Onset… I could keep going.

Always fun to see someone discover Band Maid! This is truly a band that is its own genre. There is no one out there, and I don’t think there ever has been!
In the early days their music was written for them, including this song. The Pigeon was involved in the lyrics, but the music it’s self was not. I highly recommend checking out some of their newer stuff, as the music that they write is on a much higher level than what was written for them!

Welcome aboard, Ross. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 178 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (125 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits like Sense, Glory and Unleash (from their own Anime MV (series?)): th-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/w-d-xo.html)
And many songs are represented with 50 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
     ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” th-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/w-d-xo.html
     Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” th-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/w-d-xo.html

 “P and D²” 30+ Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinD2/videos
And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:
 Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: th-cam.com/video/DgxU-MVjta0/w-d-xo.html
     See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: th-cam.com/video/vjZkNeoGmhc/w-d-xo.html
If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 29 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 31 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 31 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 32 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 30 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 The Maids SOLD OUT 2022 US tour just wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. And their opening for Guns and Roses, The Last Rockstars, and their sold out 8,000 seat Garden Theater concerts were huge successes. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!!

I can garan-damn-tee you that 95%+ of their discography will end up on you playlist. And that last 5% is just me trying not to overplay this. They are that good. Did I not tell you that they are probably the best active rock band in the world today?
A little history, assuming you're in the mood for some reading...
Once upon a time, Miku (rhythm guitar, backup vocal) decided to form a band. Prior to that she had worked in a maid cafe. She liked the aesthetic and the whole "lack of serious" associated with it so she decided that hew band will dress up in maid outfits. She recruited a drummer (Akane), lead Guitarist (Kanami) and a killer bassist (MISA) and they started making music.
Fun story; Miku quickly became aware that her vocal ability was not up to the task of fronting a rock band like she wanted to create so, after a bit, she recruited Saiki, the now lead singer. Only she left out one key piece of information when she recruited Saiki. She 'forgot' to mention the maid outfits. She actually didn't spring the maid outfit thing on Saiki until just before their first show, when she handed Saiki her outfit. You see, Miku was worried that if Saiki had known about the maid concept she wouldn't have joined the band. Come to find out, she was right. In an interview Saiki basically said "Yeah, if I had known about the maid outfits, I wouldn't be here".
After Saiki joined the Miku switched to rhythm guitar, which Kanami and Misa taught her how to play.
The refer to their maid concept as "The Gap", referring to the gap between what you see (cute and frilly) and what you hear (badass rock).
Anyway, you know me. I could type on for days about this but "here endeth the lesson" as they say.
As for what to react to next, I made a couple suggestions a little while ago which were Play, Domination and Reincarnation (Rin Ne), if I recall correctly. Those still stand as my recommendations. Or you could just pick anything. You can't go wrong because I have yet to find a not good song from them.
PS: Get used to seeing MISA MISA MISA! in your comments in the near future.

@@K-RossReactsoh you ain't heard nothing yet ... There are layers upon layers to this band ... And I don't just mean their music ... Music, stage personas, band personas (they have 3 of them,) their skill as absolutely genuine very best of people.
I discovered them in 2014, and they instantly became my favorite band ... I keep expecting over the years that there'd disappoint me eventually, but nope ... In fact they continued to impress more and more.

Not really metal though they dip their toes in it. Akane the drummer especially plays in a more metal style. Japan is full of great rock and metal bands. Check out fast rising bands Nemophila and Hanabie for Japanese female metal. But back to Band Maid one of the best live shows I have ever seen. The positivity flowing from the stage to the crowd, through the crowd and back to the stage was supreme. As for next Real Existence live is an earlier song and the official live has great sound.

Yes. You just found them. I know the feeling. Same thing I said a year ago. I’m a 56 year old musician and finding Band-Maid is like winning the rock and roll lottery.
    Welcome!
Drummer, eh? Ok. With respect, I’ll offer these:
“Blooming,” official music video. Akane “Gorilla” Hirose shows off her versatility in this absolute masterpiece of arrangement and musicality. Goosebumps you say? 🪿 Prepare yourself for the outro
“From Now On,” official music video. Fully instrumental track. Balanced, aggressive heavy metal “opera without words” 🪿 Serious Maids here. Few smiles (except for ours)
A wildcard? I usually don’t recommend this one to new listeners because it’s the Maids stretching out a bit. Not as accessible for casual listeners, but if you’re not afraid and want funky drums followed by chaotic 220 bpm?
    “Manners/Black Hole,” official live video.
Maidiacs rejoice! We’ve got another one! 🎉

I love Band-Maid, and I hoping to go and see them for the third time in a couple of months, but I have a suggestion of a Korean group that probably aren't on your radar. Rumkicks are an all-female punk band from Seoul, who play a very catchy upbeat kind of punk, with a real energy and sense of fun, with vocals delivered with a grit in the voice that only an adulthood smoking Korea's harshest cigarettes can give you. Because punk is such a tiny niche in Korea, they are probably more well-known outside their country, and will get to play the main stage at the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool in August. This song is "Punk Rocker", and is a remake of their most popular video, to include the new bassist, filmed at the end of their tour of Indonesia in January. th-cam.com/video/gPwyFBiBhvk/w-d-xo.html

Band-Maid fell into my suggestion list about two years ago. I was reluctant at first because of the cute maid outfits, but OMG was I WRONG! Band-Maid is the best thing I've heard in years. This band has talent at every level: songwriting, musicianship, vocals, showmanship, and they have charisma oozing out of every pore. Some say that Band-Maid is a genre unto themselves: they are metal-ish and incorporate punk, metal, jazz, elements of rap, prog-rock, pop, and whatever makes them happy.
Just start listening to them. This band grows on you and becomes addictive. Over their ten year career they have generated a catalog of around 140 songs. Their early songs were written for them, but since 2015 they write and produce entirely on their own, and they just get better every year.
They do instrumentals to give their lead vocalist a break and those are astounding: 'Onset' and 'From Now On' will make your play list.
They recently released to live performances: "No God", a bouncy, happy song that will make you smile, and "Puzzle" a powerful song about a love affair gone wrong. Their live performances never disappoint.
The Maids don't have bad songs, just songs that keep popping back into your head:
Domination, Warning, Unleash!!!!, After Life, Moratorium, Rinne, Dice, Blooming, Endless Story, Manners/Black Hole, ...
or just pick random songs from the Band-Maid TH-cam channel.

My personal favorite song of theirs is About Us. They wrote it especially for and dedicated it to their fans. That they call their Master's and Princesses. Memorable is very good to. It was shot In Joshua Tree. You really can't go wrong with any song of theirs you choose.

F**k yeah you've been missing out!!😂😂😂 AND now you've opened up the floodgates to Japan. I'm a Blink and i see your channel is mainly K pop and Korean artists. But now that you've reacted to Band-Maid, expect more suggestions to other Japanese groups to your suggestion box. How about🤔a band named HANABIE, or perhaps NEMOPHILA? Let's see... There's also LOVEBITES.
OH! WHAT ABOUT BABYMETAL??!! Do you know Babymetal? You gotta know Babymetal!
Those are just the bands. Then there's the alt idol scene too. Idol groups like BiSH, BiS, Gang Parade, PASSCODE, BROKEN BY THE SCREAM, Melon Batake A Go Go, Ladybaby, Migma Shelter, and so many more. If you go down this rabbit hole, you may never come out. You've been warned. As for a Band-Maid song suggestion, i suggest ANY song. They don't have a bad or boring song anywhere in their discography. Subscribed.

Dude, Great reaction and I know the feeling! I didn't pay them much attention for a while, then recently saw them live at Pointfest... Wish that I had listened to them years ago. They're my new favorite band for sure. They are right there in my playlist alongside Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Coheed amongst many many others.... Seriously mad respect for the Maids and each of their talents.
I could listen to this band all day long... Actually I have been! 😁

Hello ! I'd like to think this song is the "easiest" for reactors. But it doesn't show a tenth of the marvels they're able to deploy. How about trying something a tad more radical from them ? (My picks would be "Warning !" "Onset","Influencer","From now on"and so many more. Do yourself a favor, venture through this amazing journey, 100+ songs for your ears ;-).

  • @himbo754

Band-Maid is hard rock, not metal, although they do get close to (prog/thrash) metal in songs like "Black Hole". Try "From Now On" (high quality instrumental), "Blooming" (MV), "Puzzle" (live), "Onset" (another instrumental -- just to show their skills), "Manners/Black Hole" (the contrast in styles is fun) and also any of their "acoustic Christmas concert" songs like "Catharsis" plus "Gion-Cho" by their alter ego "Band-Maiko" ... and so many others. They have been performing for 10 years now. The lead guitarist writes all their recent songs. "Freedom", though, was written for the band, but it shows off the drummer. Their maid image comes from the maid cafes in Japan, where the founder (Miku, second vocalist and rhythm guitar) used to work. They not only use the costumes, but also Miku uses Maid-Cafe-style interaction with the audience during the regular breaks at every each concert, when she gets the crowd chanting "magic spells" ("Moe! Moe! Kyun! Kyun!" and "We love Band-Maid!" and many other things) - she does her own comedy routine.
