- The 2020 VMAs was an almost all-digital experience and gave us the bit of quarantine fashion we have been waiting for almost 6 months now! With Lady Gaga showing out in designers like Valentino, Christopher John Rogers, & Iris Van Herpen it was hard not to enjoy the fashion flurry! Ariana Grande, Madison Beer & Miley Cyrus all arrived wearing Mugler by Casey Cadwallader, Maluma chose Balmain & Versace, while Doja Cat went with a bit of Versace as well. BTS gave us some tailored Gucci moments although they weren't all great! Overall, it was nice to feel semi-normal and hopefully, Red Carpets will continue in the future!

The fact that lady Gagas segment took up a literal quarter of this long ass video is actually iconic. Like, she won the most awards and served giant looks every time she took the stage, so of course we're gonna spend a little time dissecting it. Plus, each and every looks was with an iconic face mask - and she was the only one to do so. This was her night!!

Here’s where I’m going to disagree. Luke SLAMS Maria Grazia or anyone else for “appropriating” fashion. Never mind the fact that fashion has always been inspired by other cultures for decades if not centuries. If someone makes it someone someone is buying/wearing it. Luke decided to give us Masai tablecloth chic with a Scottish kilt that went very, very, VERY wrong. So he’s buying into it

Poor G-Idle! It looks like the stylist tried to dress then in every time period from the 1940's to the 1980's Korean and American style. I'm so confused.
Bts are not the new gucci men. They have stated before that they don't accept sponsorships by any brand, because they prefer to dress in whichever brand and style the feel like at the time. Although they choose Gucci for a lot of their appearences, they actually don't stop there. You can see them wearing Chanel, Dior Homme, Thom Browne, Celine, YSL, BV, LV, Prada and many more.

Yeah i think the ruffled v look was LV, it’s just that the retro vibe of their comeback is similar to the retro vibe of gucci’s latest collection
They always present new and different styles. Yes the LV ruffled looks from the dynamite press conference were pretty interesting and nice. For the performance, it just so happens that the retro vibe (70s-80s) of the song fits the Gucci and Ysl aesthetic the best. The mv is another subject, since it depicts images from various eras, and the brands vary from LV to Gucci, to YSL, to Rarlph Lauren etc.

From some comments, I am assuming that you're wearing a Kenneth Ize scarf, Luke. If so, I feel like you could have styled it differently. Perhaps without the kilt because the patterns of both are clashing. Would a bright and bold scarf like that be complemented by single toned outfit in a dark earthy colour or simple black? Just my observation. As for the rest of the video, I did enjoy listening to your takes. Always look forward to your award roasts.

bts usually go all out with the outfits on korean shows, they try to keep them “normal” when going overseas on western award shows which is kinda a pity but well

On top of that there is still a stigma around bts bc no one bothers to give there music a try and when they do they think it’s stuff like idol and DNA, which are amazing, great, wonderful, unique, and I love them to death songs but don’t cater to the western market, and then overlook the stuff that makes bts bts, such as magic shop, black swan, dimple, pied piper, etc etc

Irene Montaner Martin trust me, they have been over the top before😂 they actually have a very outgoing sense of style and have so many different styles! Their outfits for Idol, Black swan, ON, Blood Sweat and Tears all have different types of looks and they are all really cool! They also break gender norms in fashion all the time and I very much respect that, they have a lot of different styles as a group and also the individual members have their own personal styles too so you have a lot of diversity in their fashion sense!
Vello Music bts' fashion is pretty basic to me compared to other boy groups. also when did they actually break gender stereotypes? when i think or groups who truly do that i think about ateez, exo, shinee, victon and ESPECIALLY bigbang. they were the blueprint especially GD. not bts for wearing pink.
@@shxronp8966 im not knowledgeable at all but these things i say do exist: rm in lace and fishnets with a skirt, jin's crop top, jimin's balloon top silhouette and leg-hugging tight pants, tae's custom painted blazer and hope's colorful deconstructed fashion items. these are trailblazing trends as well as conveniently relevant in this century because of the age we live in right now. it used to be 20gayteen sometime ago and we do embrace deconstructive fashion, applying art on expensive clothes/customization, genderfluid fashion, and exploration of color on men. there is a history of toxic masculine fashion that we are trying to break the recent years.
however there is no question that the names you mention also do push new trends that i talked about and other fashion cores or specific statements i havent mentioned :)
edit: adding on overall that kpop idols in general are trailblazers and we love them for that too
shxronp I don’t get why it’s so important to people that they don’t go all crazy w their fashion like BTS are music icons, not fashion icons. They’ve never even tried to act like they care about fashion, they’ve never attended fashion shows or accepted to be sponsored by brands. Like for example if you look at their everyday style they pretty much wear the same clothes all the time.. they clearly don’t give much of a f about fashion. (+ they wrote spine breaker, a song that talks about overconsumption and makes fun of people who buy new clothes all the time to «be cool»)
@@ccclr i am not sure myself on bighit's standing in terms of their models if they do have some on board, but what i will say is that being a fashion icon would come in their training.
bts are music icons as we promote them to be, but besides music they got training for so much more than just their vocals. whether or not they would just like to be seen as music icons, they are iconic for a percentage of things they have had training for. and this is true for all kpop idols i believe.
just to add, fashion to me is about expressing and defining all trends within the spectrum. dad sized shirts and dad sized pants with old grandpa sneakers is a whole trends that bts adorns on their daily life like the rest of us. we have a whole namjoon who incorporates yamamoto's deconstructive fashion specifically on controlling silhouettes into his clothing, hoseok's color palette hypebeast fantasy with deconstructive trends, tae's dark academia core with incorporated couture hints (this is more of an opinion), and jimin's daily genderfluid silhouette. these are ways they express themselves through fashion, and why people care is because they are role models to people such as some ARMYs like me :) hope that explains a bit

imo gaga's look by iris van herpen very obviously drew from tropical fish, reefs, scuba diving, etc. the laser cut ornaments reminded me so much of the lion fish.the neon and holographic colors reminded me of how everything can (especially fish) shimmer underwater. the mask obv looks like a diving mask of some sort. hell, even the heels vaguely remind me of scuba diving flippers. yes, its avant garde, but it's also grounded in something tangible.
I feel like Doja's dress without the flowers stuck on, and long and tight until her feet would be gorgeous.

Just looked it up and they look fantastic! I’m disappointed they never show up to any carpets like that. I especially love the dark blue suit with the ruffles and the rainbow shirt underneath. And the checkered coat with the dark blue pants. Those two looked godly

Luke's outfit is clearly a reference to Scottish traditional men's plaid. The plaid is typically worn as a long piece of fabric wrapped around the body. The kilt speaks for itself.
I literally only know one song by Doja Cat and nothing else about her... but her in that mermaid scale performance outfit, the girl is stunnnnnnning. Like she looks like an actual ethereal mermaid. I don’t even think it’s the outfit she’s just so insanely stunning- just beautiful and womanly and I’m now obsessed with her whole aesthetic.
