Right before Eurovision Marina's father passed away. He was an immigrant from Somalia that came and married to Greece. When in cemetery she noticed a lot of people had died the same day ,among them children. They were refuges that sunk while triyng to pass through Mediterranean Sea to Greece and then to Europe. This was a strong shock to Marina and she inspired this song about sea (Thalassa) and dedicated to her father and all these anamed victims trying to find a better life in Europe
A masterpiece! The video was created in association with UNCHR and all proceeds will go to help children refugees. Other than that, the video is full of symbolisms. "Larania do Parana" is actually Portuguese and it means "oranges from Parana", and Parana is a Brazilian region near Sao Paolo. But this is also a Mexican brand of nesting trays. The man is obviously an immigrant, a common sight on Greek beaches, and they sell different things. Here he sells the popular beach snack that we call "beach donuts". Symbolically, maybe it refers to the place of origin of this man, Siera Leone, for isntance, a former Portuguese colony which is impoverished and plagued by war. I believe the Italian car symbolizes Italy, of course, which is also massively affected by the humanitarian crisis. The name of the boat is "ZOE", which means "LIFE" in Greek. Since you're a colour expert, I'd like to ask how you interpret the pink motorcycle and the rider's purple shorts.
Thank you so much. It is not easy to talk about colors' symbolic meaning when it comes to cultural symbolism. For example in some cultures black is for Funeral, and for others it is white. But i can guess they used pink and purple motorcycle to represent harmony, inner peace and compassion from concept of the song.
HEY!! GREAT JOB FOR THE REACTION!♥ BUT MAYBE SOME THINGS I AM GONNA SAY TO YOU THEY CAN HELP YOU BETTER UNDERSTAND THE STORY BEHIND THIS SONG AND VIDEO CLIP. Her dad passed away a few days before the Eurovision song contest and she had to travel to the north of Greece to the only Muslim cemetery in the country. There she saw many clusters of graves with same dates of death. They were graves of migrants/refugees who drowned trying to reach the Greek shores in overcrowded boats. The song is dedicated to her father, but also tries to raise awareness for the refugees crisis that is being unfolding in the Mediterranean sea the last decade with people trying to flee warzones, political or ideological prosecutions and poverty. And are being exploited by traffickers and risk their lives in unsafe boats, that often don't make the voyage. When the song was released in POP album and I listened to it, I was in tears, and I still am every time I listen to it. The video is a masterpiece! One ha to look closely at every little detail which has a meaning. The Mediterranean countries affected by the refugee crisis are Greece, Italy and Spain, and there's reference to Italy with the car - a classic Alfa Romeo75 Quattrofolio - and Spain - look at the the words on the tray carrying the Greek "beach donuts", as we call them. Also the name of the boat, it's "Zoe", which means "Life". The sign on the rocky part of the beach "NO TRESSPASSING" and the macho-looking man next to it, implying all those ultra-rights who wish refugees and imigrants kicked out. The colours have a meaning, everything. This is typical for Marina's work, but not very common in other Greek artists and it makes her stand out. 💙🤍
