Remember Stede said there were a ton of hidden passages on the ship? Most people think Lucius was saved by another crew member (Fang?) or pulled himself up and is hiding in one of them. If you notice too, Ed deliberately separated every significant relationship on the ship, even Frenchie and Wee John, kind of like 'if I can't be happy, no one can'. Now I'm just wondering in Season 2 if Stede will find Edward before or after Ed hears about his 'death' and how that will affect things.
Nathan Foad (Lucius) is coming back for season two. So unless Lucius has a twin, or becomes a ghost, we probably can safely assume he is still alive. Especially considering we didn't see a dead body. Plus Ed went back in as Lucius was still screaming (people don't scream when they drown) and whoever is sailing the ship would have heard him and I assume it would have been Fang who would 100% have saved Lucius in a heartbeat. Imo Lucius is still on board hiding in one of the secret passageways.
What a great show, the ending really built hype for an epic season two. I'm actually kinda excited to see a dark side of Blackbeard. Lucius will be fine. No one in the Fandom actually thinks that he's dead. He's too iconic to die like that. Thank you for reacting to this show, it's one of my favorites!
I thought that we might get season two in June for Pride Month and followed along with production updates but it has been silent for so long I was getting connected that it had gotten the Batgirl tax write-off treatment and I was SO relieved to hear that it finally got a release date!

He’s a self-confessed very open fan of the whole genre; he knows how it works, and he knows what kind of narrative choices you can’t come back from. Relatedly, if you ever want to read fanfic there’s a whole subgenre that’s just “Lucius survived and he’s hiding in the secret passages waiting to be rescued, but he’s VERY ANGRY so he spends most of his time pretending to be his own ghost and tormenting Ed.”
I'm really glad that you two finished the show and enjoyed it! When you had the long break, I was concerned that you weren't going to come back to it. As far as I can tell, everyone has the same reaction to episode ten, which is, "But wait, Lucius can't be dead! 😭" but then you join the fandom, where no one believes he's actually dead. Nathan Foad, who plays Lucius, is so talented and is the breakout star of the show, along with Vico Ortiz who plays Jim. They're not going to kill off a fan favorite. Additionally, the show makes jokes about Lucius's death throughout (Jim in episode two: You're so dead! Stede in episode three: I just hope he's not dead. That could be really bad for the general vibe around here. There are a lot more too) and they're not going to throw away all of the work they've done by making fun of the bury your gays trope only to actually bury a gay person. I also think that one of the best pieces of evidence for Lucius still being alive is the fact that we watched Roach hit the side of the ship so hard in episode eight but still be perfectly okay a couple of scenes later. Lucius will definitely be back. I personally think he climbed back up onto the ship via the rope that's visible in the shot where Ed throws him over and gets hidden and taken care of by Fang, who referred to him as "our beloved Lucius" in episode six. The two camps are 1) they're going to fall back in love very quickly and its going to be like nothing even happened or 2) they're going to fight and its going to take a lot of convincing from Stede to have Edward forgive him (which may or may not end with Ed getting stabbed at one point so that Stede can look after him like he did when they first met). Honestly, I can't decide which of the two I like more. On the one hand, it is very romantic to have a very sweet and tender reunification, but I think because of Stede's motif being lighthouses ("you're supposed to avoid lighthouses") Ed is probably going to go through a lot of lengths to avoid being around Stede again.
I'm with Denise, I'm also not a big fan of cliffhangers 😖 And this one is so sad too! But I actually enjoyed the fact that it didn't end on good terms, I feel like some things needed to happen to the characters for their growth. Like for example, Stede really needed to deal with his guilt before getting together with Ed for real. Unfortunately that led to the return of a meaner Blackbeard, not the one we got to know :( But that scene with the painting made me hopeful and sure that Ed's still in there. I'm really excited to see where the story is going and how that is going to turn out! Also, I really hope Lucius is living in Stede's secret passages inside the ship, he's one of my favorites! Can't wait for season 2 and for your next reactions of ofmd! I really liked you guys and I appreciated a lot your comments on the show, thank you so much for reacting to it 😄❤️

Waiting for months after that cliffhanger to find out if there was going to be a season 2 or not was absolutely brutal, you guys had the right idea waiting! i loved watching your reactions throughout the season and watching you guys become invested in the show! even though the cliffhanger is heartbreaking, i always felt like if it ended here, it told the entire vague historical record that we know of blackbeard and stede (on which this show is very loosely based). they met, for some reason pirated together, had some sort of falling out, and then never crossed paths again - which the creator david jenkins interpreted as a very bad breakup. thankfully we'll have a season 2 that diverges from history and will give us a happy ending (fingers crossed). can't wait until you guys are back for season 2!

whenever i rewatch the show i just ignore the latter part of episode 9 and episode 10 entirely…they just make me sad 💀
