    I bought my icemaker on Amazon it is a Chinese manufactured product, I paid $99 on sale. Very similar to the igloo that you purchased. I've had no trouble whatsoever with this product. It's amazing how fast it makes ice cubes. The drain plug is on the bottom so you can't knock it off. Thanks for the video. These days, devices are often made for multiple retail brands, almost to the point that they are generic.

    I have a model that is almost exactly to this one, and I purchased it at Sams Club for around $75 I believe. I keep a water bottle in the freezer and do not allow it to freeze totally by using it to add water. I can get the icemaker to make a full basket in 1/2 the time of using water directly from the faucet or from the refrigerator ( i live in Louisville Kentucky, and we have amazing tap water). Love this icemaker and since I have an ice addiction I eat a lot of ice every day. The size and texture and softness of this ice are great, and I prefer it over Sonic ( hospital) ice. I have seen someone post about using ice trays, and while that may work for some people, it is not a solution for everyone. I do keep a couple of containers in the freezer so I can keep a nice supply, so I never run out as well since I have six children who drink ice water all day

      The ones from Sam's Club that I saw were smaller models - which is actually better I think for a camping environment. Otherwise it appears to use the same mechanism.

    The more ice that fills the basket the colder it gets.I don't take any out until the basket is full. Empty into a plastic bag, or poor basket into your freezer ice bin, and obviously, keep in freezer. in two hours, I have enough ice for several days. The first day or so, the ice is small. we use distilled water because we have hard water. Our Igloo was $80 at Walmart. it paid for itself pretty quickly, we use a lot of ice. This makes clear ice with distilled water. the New Air brand doesn't.

    I just purchased the same unit a few weeks back from Walmart home delivery. So far so good. It takes about a good hour for the ice maker to kick into full gear but once it gets going it produces a fair amount of ice super quick. I like the large size although the ice can be a bit wet. Opening and shutting the lid quickly seems to keep the ice from melting to rapidly. Its funny you found a screw in your packaging. I had to LOL when I opened up mine and found a washer. I guess Igloo is into including extra hardware into the packaging. Who knows? The blue protective tape was a real pain to remove as well. Also the black top cover was unprotected and showed the same wear you witnessed. Oh well, thanks for the review it helped me decide on this unit.
    ps.. Hopefully you haven't knocked off the extruding drain valve during your camp ground outings :).

    An Igloo Ice maker is has intuitive control panel with a compact
    design. It is an energy saving machine which will automatically stop
    working while the ice basket is full thus saving a lot of energy.

    The compressor needs to be set up and left at the angle so the oils flow back to the compressor. I suggest letting it sit over night prior to first use and all uses there after is set on its side for any long periods of time. Always use filtered water. Scaling will occur otherwise. Go RVing!

    Nice review. If I had a bigger van I would probably get one of these. I love having ice available for sodas and stuff. That ice maker is a tad too big though. I think that is the smallest one can expect though for an ice maker.

    • @jimmytate7587
      @jimmytate7587 หลายเดือนก่อน

      no. most are smaller, take less water, and produce less ice to be held in the basket. the igloo has an insulated ice compartment, including the lid. the smaller ones do not insulate the compartment, so the ice melts quickly if not used or removed and put in a freezer.

      Well the ice cubes will eventually melt if you don't use them as there is no insulating or cold compartment for the cubes.
      But when the cubes melt (at least with my unit) they drain back into the water container to be made into ice cubes again.

    • @alfrednewman3416
      @alfrednewman3416 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the ice dumps into a basket in a poorly insulated compartment which also holds the reservoir of water. there is no cooling in that compartment so naturally the ice will melt... best bet is to Mt the basket every hour or so and bag ice into regular freezer... btw use chilled water to fill reservoir, bigger cubes faster

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RVProject The plastic wedge was too close to the sides of the water reservoir for pliers to fit. I eventually wiggled it out, the resistance was because it was hot glued in. It's supposed to hold a foam filter that you could wash but it was just empty and hotglued in. The icemaker has since failed after four years of use, most likely just a failed microswitch but I don't really have the workspace to take it apart to fix so I'm considering trying to dispose of it and getting a clear ice, ice maker, or just not have an ice maker.

    I've had a few of these units. Most recent one was much larger and had more capacity but I used it in my office at work because my employer was to cheap to provide Ice. I since quit that cheap employer and retired. I had to downsize to a travel trailer and a smaller unit but it cranks out the ice like crazy. I take he excess Ice I don't use and put it in the freezer. I got my current unit at Wallmart for less than $100 bucks on sale and it has performed flawlessly. Provides all the ice I need and more. Should it quit, I'll just get another. At less than $100 bucks, these are disposable. Mine quits and I'll just get another.

    I bought the Magic Chef version at the home center. Disappointing performance, and the ice is not cold enough really to chill your drink. I guess for an RV it may be adequate (barely) depending on the number of people using it, but for home use, it's a flat waste of your money and counter space. A 20-pound bag of ice was $1.75 at Sam's Club in McDonough, GA when I checked a couple of weeks ago.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Winston Elston It works great for RVs and boating as sometimes ice is hard to get. Often, in these situations you are quite distant from a store, and while some campgrounds/marinas often have ice, they do occasionally run out.
      The ice gets plenty cold enough in my unit.

    • @Milesco
      @Milesco 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Winston Elston : Ice is always, at most, 32°F (0°C). Of course, your
      Magic Chef machine may not have produced adequate-sized "cubes ", or perhaps not enough ice per hour to satisfy you*, but that's different from saying the ice isn't cold enough.
      _____________________________
      * (I know these small consumer-grade machines don't put out a whole lot of ice, but then you get what you pay for)

    • @thomashom7514
      @thomashom7514 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Captain Quirk Yes, water freezes at 32 degrees F., how can ice be not cold enough? Maybe not large enough. I just ordered a Magic Chef ice maker from Home Depot for $88. My last ice maker ($149) did not last more than 2 months. I am not investing too much money in these things since I feel they have not really perfected these things.

    • @winstonelston5743
      @winstonelston5743 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Hom Yes, very good. You know the freezing point, which is also the melting point. Problem is, ice at 0 degrees F or colder lowers the temp of the beverage before the phase change from ice to liquid water begins. The colder the ice, the less it waters your drink down. At 32 F, it melts immediately and dilutes the booze.

    • @Milesco
      @Milesco 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Thomas Horn: Yeah, these icemakers seem to have serious reliability problems. If you look at icemakers at amazon.com, most of the comments are related to these devices failing before their reasonably expected lifespan -- and often before the warranty has even expired. And then the manufacturer (e.g., NewAir) refuses to honor the warranty, claiming that Amazon is not an "authorized reseller" or "authorized vendor" or some such.

    • @RVProject
      @RVProject  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course when the ice melts, it is recycled into making more ice. Some people bag the ice and put it into the freezer after its made, but in that instance, buying ice may be a better option.

    • @candybegley8656
      @candybegley8656 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find that it makes ice faster than it melts and the melted ice makes the water colder which results in the faster ice. I wouldn't put it in a bag but I use a couple plastic containers. I was buying a bag of ice a day and this was so much cheaper ( i paid less than 75 for the machine and was spending 2.25 a day on ice from a store).

    Worked well, other than large cubes not so large..... Then in the second year, the ice tray (all plastic) somehow hairline cracked where it meets the small motor shaft that turns the tray- this crack disables the unit.. I looked this up on youtube and it is a very common failure, so I deem it a defective part. I only just broke the machine down today, and I'm going to try toSuper Glue the crack, and I'm going to add in another tiny but strong bind other the crack too.
    If it fails I'll order another tray, as the 1.5 years was great, and I now know you can not let the ice back up too much in the unit.

      There are little tubes that have refrigerant that passes through them, and it makes ice. I don't normally take things apart to see how they work so I can't tell you if it has a compressor or how the refrigerant is cooled. There is a fan in the side, so something inside makes the tubes cold.
