@@captainred22449 Agree. Perhaps not as much a household battle name as Shiloh, Manassas, Antietam, Vicksburg and Gettysburg. But a massive, bloody, significant battle nonetheless. Lee's masterpiece -- alas, it may have overinflated his confidence heading into Gettysburg -- and Hooker's most embarrassing moment.

@@captainred22449 Considering it's Lee's most famous battle that kind of put's it at the top of many peoples list. I've been there and walked the battle field. From the Inn, to Hazel Grove, followed Jackson's stealth march to the Union XI Corp where Jackson rolled it up like a window shade. I tried to see where his arm is supposed to be buried there too but they were closed. And yes stood at the place of the Cracker box counsel. If you get a chance to visit please go, it's well worth it.

I couldn't agree more. I joined the last year it was under the banner "Civil War Trust." Have been donating every year since. Sometimes I'll donate during particular campaigns. The Gaines Mill Cold Harbor coin was a must. Ed Bears said that even if the trust had to sell all other land, to purchase that piece of land. Do it.

As per one historical account, there were about 14 Federal artillery pieces just to the south and southeast of the Chancellorsville house (Hooker's HQ) - and just below the road intersection (seen at 00:10). To prevent any rebel approach to the house, these guns covered the Orange Plank Road, heading southward, and the Plank Road, heading eastward.

Excellent video of this battle as it's occurring NOW. So many "if's" in this whole battle. I don't think though that Hooker was acting aggressively as some have said. He crossed the fords UN opposed. That's not aggressive. IF when Slocum and Meade arrived who were EAGER to continue on and plow into Lee... THAT would have been aggressive. Instead Hooker said,,, NO,, we're ok here for now,, lets let Lee attack US.. HUGE mistake.. Lee, the greatest of all chess players tore Hooker a new one!!! He figure out what Hooker was trying to do and simply with the advice, GOOD advice I might add, of his subordinances, completely destroyed Hooker. Hooker ended up back across the river where he started and,,, what did Lincoln say? OH MY GOD, WHAT WILL THE COUNTRY SAY NOW!!!,,,

This is where Stonewall Jackson was shot three times by his fellow Confederates!! Stonewall never saw another battlefield.

Imagine if he'd been at Gettysburg. He definitely would have attacked "if practicable."

Lee 3-1-1 as of the beginning of this battle. I would like to think I know his 3 wins( 7 days, second bull run and fredericksburg ) and the one tie (antietam). Where the loss?
