It was one of the first singles I bought aged 11 or 12. Is anyone watching this thinking I want to be part of it I want to be in that audience dancing to it? Everyone is so into it even Peter Powell. I want to be there dancing with them.
A fantastic bit of Top of the Tops, amazing dancing, great costumes, something for everyone to enjoy ;) and classic powerful tune from the great Phil Lynott, a true artist. Simply impossible to believe BBC1 would put this on TV at 7pm on a Thursday evening now. What timid, grey times we live in!
Yes he's doing the same stuff/moves that everyone else there is doing. That's what I love about this clip nobody cares about what people are thinking they've just let themselves go let's dance like nobodys watching and have a great time.
This is funny, but hardly surprising by the BBC. Phil Lynott is supposed to be there performing Yellow Pearl in the studio (or in typical Top of the Pops fashion, at least standing there miming as they play a tape of his music out through the speakers) but as you can clearly see he's not even in the studio, more than likely not even in the building. It's no wonder that the BBC programme was taken off the air. People were fed up of being taken for mugs by the BBC executives.
The programme lasted many years afterwards and certainly by the time I was watching it growing up in the 90s, the dancers were long gone (unless performers brought their own).
It's not great, I was expecting Phil Lynott not oily beef lol. I don't know I think it's a bit out of place, and it wasn't in sync, nothing to do with the song either.

Love Peter Powell. Great presenter.
He's buzzing on something

why wasn't it performed by Lynott and Ure on the show, does anyone know?
It’s mostly Midge Ure
What a great great classic 👏 👌 😀 Phil lynott legend, god bless you 🙏 ❤ 😊 and midge ure
We miss you Phil.....just thankyou so so much ❤❤ great times indeed...long live Thin Lizzy.
Best top of pops theme
This is what TOTP in the early 80s was all about. Dance, dance, dance, and dance even more.
Looks fun
and balloons.
I love yellow pearl because It Is one of my second favourite TV theme because I hear it every Friday night when I am back in the UK on BBC four
every time i watch this clip..i say.."there's something eerily wrong with this," but what Lynott and Ure did was just unbelievable.
Best TOTP theme music ever.
Absolutely fantastic
Great danceing by Peter Powell on top of the pops on the first edition of top of the pops from 1982
This is Peak Eighties Camp. Amazing.
The guy doing the posing from behind! Peter Powell dancing in the background!
Peter Powell's dancing in the background lol :D
Was that required by BBC?
He’s got moves
I know lmho 🤣
Good work PP. Grooving that tank top large style 👍🏽

This is brilliant
Good work PP. Grooving that tank top to the max 👍🏽👍🏽
A dance routine very much of it’s time
You can't beat a cheesy dance routine.
Classic..Still performed by Midge now
Saw him do it today at Lets Rock Exeter. Took me by surprise, emotional….
Classic.
Fair play to Powell, he stays the course with the dad-dancing. You wouldn't have got Bates doing that...
Or indeed his son, master......
@2:19 almost looks like David Prowse aka Darth Vader. 😁
Great song by Thin Lizzy .
Not quite , phil lynott solo along with midge ure of ultravox (at the time)
It wasn't Phil though, its midge we need to thank.
Would the number one band in the studio be Bucks Fizz with Land of Make Believe? 😃 ☀️ 🏃♂️
@ZanduckTV2: Probably "Don't You Want Me Baby"by The Human League since it remained number 1 in the charts for 5 weeks, including Christmas day 1981.
One of the best songs..best listened to without the awful imagery
Damn, check out Peter Powell's dance moves.
0:26 - Edit.
why do you say that ? The dancers before and after are different !
@@dlusman They had to move Peter Powell around correctly.
What a shocking routine. Looks like they were making it up as they went along.
Fucking Zoo, innit.
Lol
2.08. I think that’s when they threw in the towel on this routine
This was more Midge Ure than Philo.
Brilliant song, I was expecting Phil Lynott but instead we got out of sync dancers and oily "beefcake". Hmmm. Oh well.
No explanation for the muscle men…
The 80s were just a different world

probably coked up
"It's no wonder that the BBC programme was taken off the air." - a mere 24 years later....
@Oh dear was going to say the same
The programme lasted many years afterwards and certainly by the time I was watching it growing up in the 90s, the dancers were long gone (unless performers brought their own).
I miss these non woke days.
Great at the time, very cheesy dancing now
What a terrible dance routine
It’s is but it’s pure nostalgia, it’s how things were done back then
By whom? Zoo (or whoever it was), or the spectators (including Peter Powell)?
@Nikki Mc: At least he is having fun, not like the bunch of miserable gits today.
Glorious! & sponsored by cocaine
Wtf is the random bodybuilder all about? 🤣🤣🤣
Ha!!! It’s utterly hilarious isn’t it? Surely he wasn’t serious🤔😂
Fanservice. BBC figured you couldn't get your cheese without a side of beefcake.

The tune is epic and the dancing hilarious… all good stuff
I think it’s awesome...would have liked to have seen Phil and Midge up there as well though
Oppppftttt
Wtf!
Wtf
