It was the Islamic civilisations that inspired the European renaissance. The golden age of the Islamic era 8-12th century was truly a golden age for us .

      @worfoz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Muslims conquered the Byzantine Empire, they did science.
      Islam killed it.
Now muslims regret that because we non-muslims are most successful in using science.
The Golden Age of Islam was not islamic at all.
      Blindly obeying muhammed is islamic.
And accepting this "alla knows best".
Science is about mastering reality, islam is about submission to this "god" alla.
      Quite the opposite.

@@worfoz actually islam encourages muslims to learn and read, the first words that was revealed to prophet muhammad was (read), islam encourages muslims to get knowledge as with knowledge you can understand better the signs of god, and ofcourse it will improve our lives if it is useful, and muslims achieved alot in the fields of science, for example, arr-raazi created the first hospital, al-khawarizmi invented the algebra, ibn al-haitham (mentioned in the video), it's not islam that made muslims weaker these days, it's the bad muslims who didn't follow the teachings of islam, spread corruption and divided each other

I had read about this too. Actually i love and appreciate islamic glorious ages when they ruled over 2/3 of world. They invented so many things that really unbelievable to trust and from what i read, things that claimed by western people as their own very first discoveries. Even by learning histories i noticed that renaissance or enlightening ages in europe actually inspired by islamic cultures of freedom of thinking. Histories told us that so many people of europe came from far to islamic study centers and brought knowledges they had found back to europe and then born of renaissance. The only unfortunate accident is when crusaders enlarged their territories and brought disaster especially to islamic greatest libraries, buried datas of discoveries that had discovered years before in the name of church and christianity. That's the beginning why i turn little by little to hate religions. They always made to bring disaster to science.

We still use the scientific method today in our experiment, science has long existed before Alhazen but he did the first controlled scientific experiment.

The inventor of agriculture, or fire, or the wheel these people were lost to the sands of time but truely must have been the first scientists.

The big founding fathers of the scientific method were Francis Bacon, Newton, and René Descartes

Then one day my teacher told my parents and when I was about 8 I realised that I'm good at science because I love it. Younger than 8 years old, I always watched documentaries about chemistry, physics, biology. It's just so interesting to me. I didn't even know what science was but I knew I loved it, weird.

I think it would be really weird if a healthy kid was not interested in its surroundings.
There will always be those who will have issues with someone excelling in something. I was interested in almost everything. And I cant say I was somekinda child prodigy, but I had friends who were simply amazing at natural sciences.
I watched both animations and all kinda stuff like the "Dark crystal" to name one. I can still remember a Belgian animation "Once upon a time there was man"-series. It is one of the best educational entertainment for kids I,ve ever seen. These got many interested in history and art, I guess. As a kid you really make art for arts sake.
The workings of science are ofcourse much easier to grasp and appreciate if one is able to see them in action from an early age.
Nowadays there is so much more media content available, but I am not always too sure about its quality, though. Many cartoons nowadays seem to be devoid of all meaning, almost like drawings of some madmen ;) and there might be some truth to it too, or then i,m just getting old.
The movies and cartoons that I remember finding as most fascinating as a kid dealt with classical antiquity with Greeks and Romans, and the age of exploration. Now as an adult I find it very hard to understand why some people do not want NASA to keep on researchin. Not to mention that there are savages out there doin their very best at demolishing UNESCO sites in what once was the cradle of civilization.

Having nothing to do in my hospital bed, my sister lent me her computer. This is when I truly discovered the internet. I distinctly remember watching a video about making a blow gun on Metacafé. Ever since then I've been in a constant love affair with science. Though i noticed as i got older that what i enjoyed wasn't the building and construction or even the math really. What i enjoyed was better understanding how the things worked. How the electric model engine my parent bought me for christmas one year worked, what kind of forces were involved in submersibles, the though i prefer first hand experience when it comes to discovering these different interactions in the world, i want to find new ones that peak my interest, and explore the unknown ways the universe interacts.

And you reckon those were the first? First thing I thought of was gunpowder and significantly predates these. Also how can the 'first' use citations? Unless they're not.

Great video! I absolutely loved, very objective, very informative and easy to understand. I already knew most things but this video helped put things in order for me.
Also don't worry about the mispronunciation of the names. To make it easier for non-Arabic speakers, ibn Al-Haytham could be read as ebin Al HAY thAm (the HAY read as the same way the food given to farm animals such as horses. The thAm part was pronounced correctly.)
Also can you add quotes from movies wherever possible. The Avatar quote was splendid.

This Isaac Newton quote you gave, is probably the worst kind of inspirational quote on historic look. Newton had a fight with another guy called Robert Hooke. In an attempt to settle an argument, for not crediting Hooke on a publication, Newton wrote this sentence, to show how he accepts the fact that he needed others to get to his conclusions.
    Oh, how nice of him...
Well... no. Robert Hooke, was well known for being an extremely short guy. This was Newtons way of apologizing and insulting at the same time.

The concept of citation is rooted in Islamic sciences of Hadith. Islamic sciences of Hadith is epitome of historiography and there is no culture out there, that has taken such cautionary approach to categorization and organization of sources and validity process roots also lie in field called Jarh wa Tadeel. Most Muslim scientist where educated in religious tradition, so it was a natural extension. Here is something to consider, Roger Becon was Franciscan Friar and they were very busy with their missionary operations with Muslims (Keep in mind Franciscan priest in past used to storm mosques to hurl curses in order to achieve martyrdom famous example from Muslims sources of insane guy named Berardo he was fluent in Arabic and especially abusive toward Prophet of Islam), is it possible that he picked that up during his interactions with Muslims?
We also know now that Isaac Newton was very religious man and he was very much against the concept of Trinity but we now know that he was very aware of Islamic criticism of Trinity and you juxtapose his position with Islamic position it become clear, where the influence comes from. In his life he didn't vocalize this opposition openly for obvious reason.

The only asteroid supposed to buzz around in 2032 I can think of is 2013 TV135. When it was first discovered, it's observation was very short, and as a result produced very high uncertainty in it's orbital parameters (sending it as close as 1,7 million kilometers from us), yielding high chance for potential impact (as high as 0,03%). Since then more observations have been made and calculations have been refined, each time lowering the chance of impact significantly. It was removed from JPL Sentry Risk Table on November 8, 2013 after the chance of impact has been caltulated as low as roughly 1 in 170 million. Last calculations from NEODyS have shown that the asteroid will fly as far away from us as 0.76AU (114 million kilometers). If you go to the NEODyS' page on 2013 TV135 (newton.dm.unipi.it/neodys/index.php?pc=1.1.8&n=2013TV135) it doesn't even list August 2032 as a close flyby.
If there is, however, another potencially risk piece of space rock on its way to meet us in 2032, I would like if somebody corrected me.
