- It would not be far wrong to think THE ZOO STORY is the play the 29 year-old Edward Albee wrote instead of committing suicide. At 29 he had reached the end of his tether, for as an orphan adopted by a rich and famous family he had left this rich family and their homes for good and by mutual agreement at 20. He had been writing short stories, plays and poems since grade school but THE ZOO STORY was the first time that instinct, talent and opportunity all came together in a successful attempt to make his distinctive voice heard. At the time of the writing of THE ZOO STORY he had been scraping a living delivering Western Union Telegrams. The humiliations of poverty and the marginalization of his gay life combined his acute observation, his upbringing as little ‘Richie Rich’, his precise use of language and his searing wit together into a cri de coeur of a play.
The setting is Central Park, New York City in the late 1950’s-a different century, a different universe. It was a time and place when two white male strangers could conceivably meet, fall into conversation-even argument- safely without a thought of criminal intent. The play though still resonates powerfully as a protest against the coldness, materialism, and lovelessness of contemporary American life.

Zoo Story is one of the best and more clever theater works I've ever seen. I loved it. It was represented in a small theater with just the two guys seated in a bench in the middle of some park. And it was so well recreated that we all stood still and gave them a long applause. I only know this drama and then the famous Who's Affraid of Virginia Woolf, about Albee. Think he somehow was a step ahead Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams in his kind of plays and the matters he dealt with. Albee was a very original and creative author in his dealing with human relations and absurd theater, also. Consider Zoo Story a brilliant playwright. 🤗💎👍❤️

One of the best performances i have seen👏
As an amateur playwright, I found this play extremely interesting and very well acted, in fact my favourite version compared to the others I've seen so far. The characters were compelling to watch as was the denouement.
I played jerry in High School, and felt this was an extremely underappreciated play!

Great chemistry between the actors. My wish for this production would be that Jerry be dressed appropriately for the role (and said living conditions). The finer clothing is distracting enough to take away from the effectiveness of the production. But, again, the acting is very good.
Oh man that was awesome, breathtaking performance. We have this drama in our core paper. This video of yours helped me a lot. And I became a great fan of Danilo Ottaviani. You actually looks like the Bollywood actor Aparsakthi Khuranna.
