😀 I have an MG7550 and your advice worked perfectly to bring it back to life printing full colour (apart from the number of contacts taped; I only taped the two on the left, not the four on the right as shown at 3:35. When I taped the four on the left it started only printing in black and white so i removed it). But now after washing the printhead, drying it with a cold blow-dryer, and taping those contacts it works like new again. Thank you so much! Also, never download the "firmware updates" Canon releases unless you want your printer to mysteriously breakdown immediately after. The fact that the contact taping works, makes me realise that this is deliberate programming rather than an actual mechanical fault. It makes me really angry that companies do this. It's basically just malware to make you believe that your perfectly good product is broken, because they want more of your money. It's sickening to think how much e-waste they're creating with these practices. Not to mention that theyre basically stealng from customers by selling them a solution to a problem they intentionally created, usually in the form of overpriced "genuine inks" or a whole new printer. They're scam artists. 😡
Did the cleaning on my MG6320 for code b200 and worked fine for about 6 months, b200 error came back again, did the cleaning twice with no success, did the reset procedure and no luck, tried the small electrical tape on the left of the head only and it's been working awesome again, no error codes. You saved my printer, Thank You.

To people asking what the tape is for and where to put it. The tape is being placed over the electrical contact points on the bottom of the print head. The print head is what holds the print cartridges, sucks the ink out of them and sprays it on your paper. You can see how to remove and clean the print head in this video. I believe the tape is preventing the printer from detecting if the print head is old or needing replacement, therefore bypassing the B203 error. Canon WANT you to think you can't service your printer because it makes them money. This hack avoids having to buy a new print head or printer.

However I tried this as a last resort and it appears to have fixed the problem. The difference is that I didn't tape over any contacts, and I did a deep clean as soon as the printer initialised after putting it back together to prime the print head. Maybe a normal clean would have worked too. I did have problems putting the head back in as this video isn't clear on how to do that - the cameraman's hand is in the way. The secret is to put it in with the contacts upwards and let it swivel around to the correct position then push it gently back before pushing the clip back. I am now getting some streaking on pageblack images, but colours are fine. A very useful tutorial.
It worked! It is not necessary to unscrew the 2 small bolts. 1) Just extract the print head as video shows, and 2) put it straight away at clean water .. 3) dry with paper... 4) taped the contacts , 5) insert back to the printer. And voila ..warked like charm. Thanks for the solution!!! (I wonder how much Canon would charge to fix the printer!!)
I tried the exact same steps, it did not unfortunately help in my case. Mine is a Canon pixma MG5720 Inkjet printer. Sadly, I had bought 3 sets of replacement ink catridges recently. I hope I can reuse them in the new printer.
Thank you this worked!!! I covered two tabs on the left and 5 tabs on the right. Then restarted and it printed just fine. I didn't bother with the full cleaning either.

Perfect ! it works !! However, be careful not to stick the tape on the track on the right (the 4 printed circuits) as this will prevent you from having the color print. Stick only the tape on the 2 small printed circuits on the left and presto !! No more error messages!
Well done, I have a Canon MB-5140 printer, it has the same fault, B203, and the head has been cleaned, but it differs from the head shown in the video. Where will we put the insulator on any points .. With my thanks and appreciation
Some advice, after cleaning head, there is the probability that the error B203 will continue for a wile. This is probably because inks are not in the printed head. It takes some time to penetrate inks into the printed head. Plz wait one day and try to print test patter. In my case after two days I succeed with printer recovery. Goodluck.
This. My B203 error is gone. I have just completed the procedure and I think I was too thorough in cleaning my ink out all the way through the print base(part between the sponges and print nozzles).I'm letting it sit for a day or two and I'll come back and try print tests but currently I'm printing blank pages...the first couple had some faint magenta and cyan visible but then i guess I ran that out. Ink cartridges are full. Having done the fix I'm guessing the water soak is mostly for any dried ink on the print nozzles. Clearing out the whole reservoir behind them is inadvisable, it's going to get diluted down regardless. It's conceivable that simply applying the tape to the contacts would be the best first move to fix the error, then if test prints fail continue with the deep cleaning in water. I'll report back with success or fail.

i had that error on MG7760, there was a class action in the US over that, i couldnt repair mine however canon did catually give me a replacement printer.. if you look around some of the printer models managed to hack the issue, but some printer models were no luck.

Cover 4 pins from bottom second from the left. I didn't cover the second to the last pin on the bottom right and mine worked. Even turned it off and came back after 1hr to perform the test maintenance and all the colours were printed on the A4

Unfortunately, it didn't work for me I have a Canon MG8650, and the printer head on mine doesn't have as many contacts.
