Use the green econ button while you drive, keep the tach below 2k, turn the ac off and inflate the front tires to 45 and rear to 44 = 60 mpg on the highway and 66 in the city
1 and a half years going strong. love the car, the money I save on gas totally covers the car payment.

During normal driving, does the gasoline engine ever shuts off, like in the prius? And go in full electric?

Very rarely..its more of an electric motor assist

When my wife and I travel in our 2013 Insight we usually get 48-50 mpg at 75 mph. At 60 mph we get 50-55 mpg, way above what the EPA rated it at. We are usually using the A/C the whole time. For us, the coolest thing is filling up and being shown a predicted range of 520 miles before our next fill.

compare with the prius, whats the advantage of this car, except the price

The comfort is a little better in the prius, but this car is more fun to drive.
And it can fake something far better then most people (Fake gear shifts.
The nice sound the engine makes in S mode with paddleshifters.
in my opinion the prius looks like a girl and the inishgt like a guy.
