- I had the opportunity to fly out to Prescott Arizona to meet up with Fieldcraft Survival / @fieldcraftsurvival They wanted to do a podcast and videos on emergency prepardness and survival radio systems. In additon I snagged a 10 point SOTA activation and a DX call to Japan. Great weekend!

Japan with 10 W and a tiny antenna - amazing. 73
Pres-kit is beautiful. Thanks for the video.
HAM RADIO DUDE Yea man, so pretty.
That’s amazing. I follow both channels and never thought I would see a collaboration like this.
Thanks for listening! More to come!
I know im randomly asking but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Wallace Nehemiah instablaster ;)
That Japan QSO was pretty impressive.
I just finished listening to the podcast. It was great, I plan to listen to it again.
Awesome!
Discovered Mike Glover and Fieldcraft Survival recently. One of the best on TH-cam without all the macho operator BS and real information from a true operator. Seriously cool that you guys did a collab. I appreciated your multi-part series on disaster comms. Especially working the GMRS/FRS small HTs in for close, neighborhood coms and the HF for long range. 73, K2WLF.
I agree. Good stuff they are putting out.
Amos Iron Wolf did you see him on Mike Ritland’s Mike Drop? Crazy stories on there 😔 good to hear it I think, makes some of the mundane a bit easier to handle thinking about how what a bad day could really be
@@KazzArie Not yet, but I will check it out. Thank.
Nice work Ambassador Josh. Nice to see you work Japan in the hotel room. I watched your review on the G90 and picked one up. I was also able to work Japan from a hotel room about 3 months back.
2 of my favorite TH-cam channels in a collaboration? I can’t wait to watch it after work and listen to the podcast. Good stuff for sure!
Right on!
My favorite channels? if they weren't they are now. And at the very least the most prescient and useful
great vedio, love the mtn top and senery.outdoors and radio go hand in hand, great job on japan too with 10 watts
Glad you enjoyed it!
Epic post, so much great information, I am so Jones’n for a Elecraft kx2 with all the options like yours. You made me so hungry and thirsty watching you breakfast buffet while QRP’n to Japan, well done, 73 de Karl KE3KWE
Thank you!
Very nice video. I watched the videos with Mike too. I’ve talked in cb for years and I’m making the move to Amateur radio now. The summit to summit contact was pretty amazing! Thanks for the information!!
We did tactical analog comms in the military-line of site and sky skip with 292's and field expedient rigs. My aspiration is full on man portable SOTA with low power CW and antenna builds. Hoping to connect on Dayton! This is exactly what motivated me to get involved in HAM.
Right on! Portable cw is not hard given the power power needed to run the rig successfully.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse You're content is meandering out of the "Hobby" category into the "relevant and critical prep skill" category.
I'm thinking the Tech. license will pretty far down the path with CW-SOTA
It was a fantastic show on TH-cam.
I'm going to give the AX1 and AXE1 a go this summer when I am in the Keys, but I'm taking a wire just in case. My first POTA with it last summer was a flop.
Pretty cool, you stuck in there and gave it go. I'm impressed and enjoyed the video and rest. I think I'm gonna give it a go with the tech license. Thanks for all the info and inspiration.
Thank you for watching and the kind words!
Very enjoyable video Josh. Thanks
Podcast is great
Thanks for sharing. It would be good to activate a summit like Spruce Mountain. Being able to drive most of the way, bench to sit on, trees to hang antennas, no gale force winds, no horizontal rain and a toilet! It's all making me a little jealous 😃.
What self respecting restaurant in Arizona doesn't have hot sauce? I'll let the Governor know, sorry about that.
LOVE Ham Radio and the amazing things that happen on HF!!! Good one Josh... I've worked Russia a few times with an inverted V dipole and battery powered FT-857 while in the CA desert.... It's and AWESOME feeling... I shouted with joy when he came back to your call... 73s..... KD6IFG
Cool video and really enjoyed the podcast with Field Craft Survival!
Man those guys are awesome. Can’t wait to work wit them again!
Tried to work you on that summit - I chase Arizona summits nearly every day. Now that I see the antenna you were using... I understand. =)
Keep at the CW, and we will hopefully get you on the next one. I recommend you switch to a dipole or an end fed.

thanks to the crash course I got my license recently just got my vanity approved KC0DEF
Wife and our children lived in Prescott for 8 years. My Brother and his wife live there now. Great town when it wasn't a subdivision of California.
I liked it a lot!
I tried to get a S2S with you on the 8th. Nothing, zilch, nada. I was running 10w so not surprising.
N1CLC
Damn. I definitely did not hear you 😢
Awesome video Josh!
You could have driven to Winslow and stood on the corner 😄
I heard there is a lot of flatbed Fords out there.
Ham Radio Crash Course Has the box arrived yet?
Just did last night! Oh man. The kids saw the baeblades they went nuts! Thanks Salty!
Ham Radio Crash Course lol It's like an early Christmas 😄
THIS IS SO AWESOME!
Josh - treally enjoyed the field work...do more...Bob,K5RWT
Very Cool. I enjoyed the video. I couldn't believe that you got Japan from your hotel room with that little AX-1 antenna. I was aware that the AX-1 was out there. So I went to the Elecraft web site and checked it out further. Tempting. W8RFC
Like the vlog style great scenery and a good contact into Japan thanks for the vlog 73 Jim NE Uk G7TFX.
Great podcast!!
Thanks!
Haha, I ask about a loaded whip style antenna on the Facebook page recently, most responses were they were not worth it. Then Josh comes in with, I worked Japan from Arizona with the ax-2. Not the best, but will it antenna? Yes
Yep. Most things will antenna. Some things just antenna much better. 🤣
Great trip and cool that you got into Japan! 73 de K2CJB
Love your show
Thanks for watching!
I use a mag loop in hotels and I have not tried the ELECRAFT vertical cool.
I just watched a video with you on Modern Rogue. You spoke of an RF triangulator. Would you do a video on those and how to build one? Also, what type of engineering are you in? That's my college major.
Excellent share, Josh! Loved it. - KF8JBB... The Mom Ham
Thanks for watching!
I see that you have the fenders on the KX2. Do you have a built in tuner? I couldn't mount mine with the jack due to the tuner being in the way.
N1CLC
Yep. I have the tuner. You can see the video I put up on mounting the side plates.
Hi Josh,
Best I could tell, he was running a KW. I heard him during the contest, but he was always in the Extra portion of the bands. Not bad getting him with 10W. I had 185 contacts, but was hampered by being only a General. FB on the summit to summit contact. 73 WB3BJU
Listen to the field craft podcast twice already. Made me ready to try and get my ham licenses. What would I need to communicate between 20 to 50 miles??
A 50w mobile radio and getting the antenna a bit of elevation would help.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse okay. If I transmit with 50w radio would a bfeng be able to receive? Thanks for your time and info.
hey Josh what is the little black ball antenna thingy?
What are some options that would allow me to transmit and receive signals within a city area
What software are you using to lookup those call signs?
What is the tripod base for the AX1? It looks neat and sturdy.
Manfrotto PIXI amzn.to/2W9PYBi
I found a Moukey tripod with iPhone holder on a Amazon, looks same as Manfroto, $13.00. Works great for my AX1. Thanks.
What's with the COPPA thing at 14:02? Was Connor a kid or something?
Inside joke with Connor. He is 17.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Okie dokie.
What ejuice do you use with the Fetch? ;)
Just some salt nic. Fruits or custards generally.
Josh, did you post a list of your radios and misc. Equipment somewhere?
Some of the radios are in the description. I linked my SOTA bag in the cards and I’ll have more details on survival radios in upcoming videos.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse awesome, thanks. Will go back and look for them.
Q: ref. SOTA and POTA, can these activities be done on 2m and 70cm?
Went to buy a bff8hp from your store but the price just jumped 20 bucks each today ... I hope it’s not because of the virus .. I’d like a 6 pack but not at 82 ea.
It might be corona virus related tbh.
Ham Radio Crash Course... thank you for your honesty .. I have mixed feelings about that .. however my opinion means nothing.. I’ll keep an eye on them .. thank you for all the content
What brand and model antenna are you using on your Yaesu HT?
That would be a Signal Stuff Signal Stick.
What year and trim Xterra do you have?
2012 Pro4X
Ham Radio Crash Course - very cool. I have a 2005 Off-Road (earlier PRO4X) and love it. It’s been a fantastic vehicle. I haul, tow and off road with it regularly.
Sorry LMAO "For sale, used Osmo Pocket"
It lived! Still works great!
