    One of the best drop shot videos I have watched on TH-cam. The tip on using a color for a specific line weight on your boat is a GREAT idea. Can't tell you how many times I have guessed wrong about what lb test I had on a given reel. Subscribed to this channel and looking forward to future content.

      @@derekstrub It is clear that you have a ton of knowledge and experience chasing smallmouth. I would love to hear how you target and catch them in the summer months and in the fall, given that those are the time periods we are in or headed towards. Which techniques do you focus on, which areas in a given body of water do you concentrate your efforts in and anything you have learned on how to find them. Other topics would be gear and lure reviews for the stuff you have the ultimate confidence in when it comes to catching smallmouth. I know smallies are a narrow topic that not everyone watching your channel may flock to, but those are my suggestions on content that I would like to see. PS, really like the boat you are fishing from. That thing looks like a beast.

    Thanks for sharing your many years of drop shot experience. I’m guessing a palomar knot to hook but what kind of knots do you use for the swivel? Would love to know what your hair jig setup is as well. Maybe next video. Thanks again Derek

      Thanks Mike! I am a long time Pitzen Knot guy actually. I use it for Fluro and braid as well as heavy salt water applications. Easy and strong knot. I will try and put up a hair jig vid soon.

    One of the most helpful, realistic drop shot videos I’ve watched. I can tell everything you said is from years of experience trial and error. Nothing regurgitated. Awesome video.

      BILL MELBOURNE - I will keep that in mind when I’m out. Find the right structure and you will find the bass!

    Nice video very informative. For drop shotting what depth do you find you catch the most fish at?

    • @derekstrub

      Shadow Swordfish - I prefer to fish deep in the Great Lakes and if I had my choice it would be between 35-50’.

    Good comments about the 6lb line deal. Im not a believer in it either, don't know why guys chance it with these monster smallies

    Great video Derek! I think taller guys like us like a slightly longer rod; at least 7'3' is my preference.

    Great video Derek, thanks 👍 I dont do a lot of drop shot fishing but plan to moving forward for deeper fish, appreciate the very insightful tips, cheers! 😎 Quick question, for those set ups, are you using more of a vertical presentation?

    • @derekstrub
      @derekstrub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry Shaun forgot to answer. You are correct, for the most part in water deeper than 25' of water. I do use the same set up for casting shallower water as well. Key things of the 5 lb power pro is casting distance and sink rate which means a lot when you are dropping on fish and getting to them before they swim off.

    Great instructional video. If you ever have a chance, you should consider fishing for steelhead as they're much more challenging than smallies (Jk). A few line/knot questions. When you tie your modified Albright, do you double the fluorocarbon? Do you double the braid? (I suspect that if you doubled the braid before the 7-up/7-down, you'd form the strongest join.) Do you manage the knot by ensuring you have a "nose" of FC protruding from the braid wraps to keep that knot from slipping? When you test your 5lb braid, what's it's actual breaking strength? (My concern is that you could easily use more than 5lbs of pressure to seat that modified Albright.) What knots do you use to/from the swivel and to the hook?

      Thank you! I use power pro 5lb to 8 lb Fluro.
