I would be so in love if you ever made a video of a trip from the buying the ticket, to landing back at home and every penny spent in between. Even with all these super amazing tips it seems like the costs add up when you’re truly broke af.

I’ve been following you two for so long now and wanted to let you know I’ve been gone from home traveling for almost a year and a half now. I started in Australia and have gone all over since and have even inspired my mom to sell her house, get an RV, and now we’re traveling around Europe together for the next month :) Iceland HERE WE COME!!
Thank you for being you and starting the domino effect that is travel inspiration within my circle of family and friends. You two had a massive part in it all.

The BEST list I've heard by far. Thank you!!! (btw: Looking forward to hearing how your tips change with kids. You can rent baby gear in most places. It's not cheap, but it's really nice. Happy rested baby=happy rested everybody! SouthWest gives a free checked bag or 2 per passenger including kids.)

I am a day tripper , and so one 10 day vacation each year.
I go from NYC down South VA -
I rented a car 🚗 it cost me,1K to have the car for a week. Unlimited miles.
This year I took the train 🚂It cost me 160.00 both ways!
It was sooo much cheaper then renting a car. I also had a great view of the entire east coast .. Just a tip !!! If your Broke AF ,yet you still like a longer ☀️ summer vacation (even its its only 10 extra days) , It’s a start!

@@rungrezSTUDIO My family and I took the Amtrek from Iowa to NY in 2008 and we like the Amtrek and know pros and cons already so enjoyed it. The scenery is nice, and everyone can enjoy (not just passengers minus driver). I think we made okay timing getting to NYC, whereas sometimes we have been laid over for a few hours or day and a half one time on our way to either California or Montana. We have to drive a bit out to a train station as there is not one in our town, and they do have early stops usually, but as soon as you get on the train you can rest, with more room for your legs than on airplanes. The windows are bigger too, but cleaner in the viewing cars. We loved staying in an older hotel, on the 31th floor I think, (out of many more) that we were able to rent at a better price my mom said because it was for extended staying too? Renting a bike in central park for the day was a great experience, and affordable. It was a cloudy day which meant the park was not over packed, and it did get nice out later in the day. We brought sandwiches I think as we often do like Kristen says in the video. We signed up for a free show at the Broadway theatre and my sister won, "In the Heights". That was nice, intimate theater. United Nations had an exhibit when we visited that put pictures to "A Hard Rain's Going to Fall" lyrics. We liked walking everyday and took the free ferry (I think it was free) also to see the Statue of Liberty. That is a long ride and there are so many people on it every time but space by the windows as a lot of people are commuting.

Another travel hack is work for an airline and get flight benefits! Working for Skywest airlines is great because (depending the airport you work in) you can fly with united, delta, American and Alaska airlines. It saves so much money. Also don't be afraid travel when your broke I went to San Francisco last year with a bag of quarters as my spending money and had a blast, got a workout (from walking from pier 39 to the golden gate bridge), I found all sorts of cool stuff along the way and have a great story to tell people when I got home. Thanks for doing these videos there were a few hacks I didn't already know in here so thank you!

Awesome tips! We rented an AirBNB 1 bedroom apartment in the middle of Sorrento for $80 a night. Grocery stores, train & bus stations right around the corner. We used all 3 for a fraction of the cost of eating out all the time or hiring a driver. Also rented a scooter for 10 hours for $45 to drive the Amalfi Coast. Loved every second of it!

Here in Portugal, it's cheaper to exchange money than to take from an ATM at the destination. How so? Here, in currency shops, you pay the equivalent in your currency + 2,5 euros for the service, if you go to the destination and take out money there, you'll pay the equivalent in your currency + 2,5 euros for the service + 1,7% in conversion fee + 1% fee for requesting money abroad + 4% in postage. I found this out when planning my trip to England in the fall so I'd suggest checking your bank's exchange fees and the currency shop fees and choose whichever is cheaper

I actually thought travelling was expensive before getting to travel myself. It's obviously more expensive than your daily life would be but you can travel for a very small amount of money. You don't need to stay in a 5 star hotel use taxis and eat in fancy restaurants nor go very far to enjoy a trip! Those hacks are super useful tbh!

Taking money out of an ATM is the worst idea. For one, a lot of hackers use ATMs for easy money. For two, fees; like a lot less conversion rate for money. A money exchange is always a better idea than an ATM 🏧. Also. If you are an US citizen, carry the new blue $100 bills to get a better conversion rate at an exchange.

my friends got the best bargain for coming to Australia... the stars aligned for them so well...
Australia entered a depression, their dollar dropped from 75/100 down to 55/100 on top of that, they got me to shack them up, I have a car so they saved money on a car rental and just paid for gas, plus it was the off season so they found themselves in quite a bargain trip especially when they budgetted for $15-30,000 for the entire trip (90 days) and left with more change in their pocket than they ever expected. Their Visa was expiring from their home country and they wanted to renew their visa legally, so they went to a cheap but somewhat premium location and Australia was kind of a great place to travel

try booking directly with the airline, sometimes they offer the same prices or even less than the websites that advertise "lowest prices guaranteed" where the catch is, it's the lowest prices before their fees... which can hike the ticket prices a fair bit

I absolutely love your videos, I found this one extremely helpful. This summer I will be traveling to Portugal. I was planning on flying into Lisbon (from Toronto) staying there for a couple days then heading to the Azores, Sao Miguel in particular. I can't seem to find flight from Lisbon to Sao Miguel. I was wondering if you had any advise- would you know if it's cheaper to book the flights to the Azores once I get to Lisbon?

Kristen, I LOVED this vlog post with all of these amazing tips! I just learned about some new sites because of you, so thank you! I have one question...what exactly do you travel with in regards to toiletries / liquids? As a female, I find it hard to use a carry on because I have hair products, gel deodorant, mouth wash, lotion, etc. I've been lucky and have only had my bag lost twice in 35 years, but I hate finding that TSA rummaged through my bag and it happens a lot! Tips would be great! Thanks! :)

This is all great! I'm wondering if you have more info about what travel credit card I should buy to rack up flyer miles? I believe you mentioned you created a video, but I can't seem to find it.

if you travel with Norwegian you can use the coupon under26 if you are under 26. and you can put it in while looking at the low price calendar to get the best deals.

Amy Foy definitely take some time to travel through the hawkes bay! it's beautiful and there's a lot of things to do. Hastings has Splash Planet and Napier has the aquarium and is art deco! We are in spring now in New Zealand so hopefully the weather will be nice and warm for you!!!!

I watched the entire video, and enjoyed getting some tips and information. But while many of these are great (and useful!) I always have a concern when I hear the credit card recommendations. I know people are typically just suggesting what they use/prefer or maybe what has some of the better rewards, but being 'Broke AF' and looking for budget travel tips doesn't strike me as the realm for people who own a $700 annual AmEx card.. Nothing here against Kristen, just a bit bummed that I've noticed it across many of the budget travel tip videos I've seen.
