  • Tracey Deer grew up on the Mohawk reserve of Kahnawake with two very firm but unspoken rules drummed into her by the collective force of the community. These rules were very simple and they carried severe repercussions: 1) Do not marry a white person, 2) Do not have a child with a white person.

    How can Kahnawake tell people if you marry out get out when people voted NO CASINO and there’s 3 casinos on the reserve which none of the community is profiting from because it is privately owned…When Kahnawake will follow their own rules I will follow them as well.

      Money is not divided to other members of the community??

    • @victoriahilton62
      @victoriahilton62 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ilrichard007 Nop!In Kahnawake the casinos are privately owned so there’s about 8 owners that get paid.The worst part is the community voted no casinos…I know some reserves have casinos that are owned by the community so everyone get a check once or twice a year from the earnings of the casinos.Ohh yeah and I forgot to mention that one of the owner of the casino In Kahnawake (who is not native but Albanian by the way) is on the interpol list and he opened the casino to wash money for the cartels.The whole story just came out about 2 weeks ago,Lapresse did a whole report on it.That is exactly why the community didn’t want casinos because it bring a lot of trouble.

    • @victoriahilton62
      @victoriahilton62 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ilrichard007Nop it is not. There was a few referendums to allow casinos over the years which people said no to. If people of Kahnawake would have voted yes then they would’ve open their own casinos and profits from it would’ve been distributed to the community members. The casinos that they have now are all privately owned,one of them just got busted for been affiliated with the cartels and were laundrying money. This is the exact reason why people voted no casinos because it always bring bad people into the community and problems. The first casino started as a “poker club” so it wasn’t “technically” a casino but over the years they added machine,black jack and roulette tables so it is now a fully operating casino. I’m afraid that the gouvernement will get involved eventually because their casinos are getting bigger and make more profit than the Montréal casinos. They will probably use that excuse to cut all funding going to the reserve but the problem is the casinos are PRIVATELY owned so once more the poor people are the ones that will be affected…

Its not easy trying to keep up with all my ancestry having to visit 2 different countries and different customs it can be exhausting and sometimes i wish i was pure breed from one ancestry and one bloodline and im actually a mixture of so much that i dont even know where i belong but i really admire these native tribes who fight hard to keep their culture and bloodline alive and thriving . The only one I felt accepted me I met in university went through the Oka Crisis. Her sister was stabbed in the terrorism caused by the government. She was the one amazing person I met.

      Yes! I am not oblivious to their tribulations, but based on personal experience, I agree. I'm a white woman raised by a white woman. My mom was raised by a racist white man. My mom taught me to stand up to racists and protect people, especially black people. Not everyone I meet knows this nor does it really matter anyway. But a few years ago, I worked at an eye doctor who was also white and adopted a brother and sister whom were black. It was a close knit family business and the son and daughter worked there too! A ton of entitled patients would come in, and state that because I couldn't provide discounts that I was racist. One time a patient was blacklisted for how she treated patients. When I told her that the physician advised he couldn't treat her, she said I was racist. EVEN THOUGH THE DOCTOR WAS MARRIED TO A MIXED WOMAN WITH TWO BLACK CHILDREN, THAT HE CHOSE TO LOVE AND SUPPORT (THEY ARENT HIS WIFES BIOLOGICAL CHILDREN EITHER). I had to tell the doctor, sadly that I was quitting because I experienced so much racism from people saying I WAS racist. It was a tough decision. I've had alot of judgmental experiences, I try not to let it get me in a frenzy. I know it's nothing like what fellow Black Americans experience.
