Midas is if I recall correctly also the only Tier (after the Normal/Savage split) that doesn't drop a mount upon clearing the 4th fight (instead giving a minion).
The 3.25 relic step was aether oil which just needed 5 which you could get from 5 weeks of the old CT weekly quest or through i believe hunt seals or tomes. light farm was i believe 3.55 along side the victory lap for the lux stage

The genre for Sephirot's song is industrial. Also, it's amusing for Powerman 5000 to call out FFXIV when Trent Reznor could easily call out the iterations of industrial bands that came after him. People have influences and iterate/emulate from there. lol
The first boss in anti-tower has a muppets reference as in one phase they sing part of "the moonlight connection" that Kermit is semi-famous for singing. while the second boss is a reference to David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust who passed away about a month before the patch dropped. (boss called Ziggy summoning big rocks called stardust)
I remember starting to watch your streams around 3.2. At that time you had a weird background faded in. An office? Anyway, that was a long and great journey. Thanks for all the content and hard work for the ff community! And yess, Midas was great.
Mentor system and Novice Network in general are hit or miss. I know that the one on Mateus is actually nice since we spend a bunch of time shitposting and if someone has a question we will stop messing with each other and answer it. Think like old Barrens chat from WoW mixed with a somewhat functioning guild you can get together with to do content. We also call out S-ranks and A-ranks/trains from time to to so it has something to keep both sprouts and mentors invested and part of a community which I tend to find lacking when I help friends on other servers/datacenters and see their NN. However I will say if it's not your vibe you will bounce off of it quick and when it is your vibe we tend to get sprouts that rush to get crafting mentor before getting to endwalker so they can stay and chat.
Hall of the novice has so many things not right in it right now... and would be a good way to come down on the side of "who's repsoncible for pulling and agro". But we need a bit more then "novice" training these days I think, with 90 levels to catch up on...
Sephirot taught me how to tank. Absolute chad damage that filtered me hard. I loved it cause when you survived the damage, you felt like a tank. Also Vortexer is a beast.
Midas was the perfect raid tier. It’s probably my favourite tier in any mmo ever. It was challenging but unlike Gordias it’s encounters where all enjoyable where as Gordias only had A3 as a standout. Now I understand why savage is the way it is now and it’s not like i don’t enjoy it anymore, because i do. That small selfish part of me however just kind of wishes that Midas was the difficulty standard for savage.
Sephirot Extreme was the start of my curse. There was only one way I could actually join a party to do it. I was a Paladin. Main tank. I had been a healer main since 2.4. This thing happened a few times to me mind you.
Midas (Savage) and Second Coil are my two favourite raid tiers of all time for XIV. I also have a slight soft spot for the rest of the Coil (First and Final) but Second cinches it for best tier there. All of the fights in Midas just tested your entire raid from start to finish - everyone had to get in on the fun (especially Quickthinx with his different jails). I could wax lyrical about both of these tiers but that'd take too long. If you can experience them minimum item level (or at least synced); do so. You won't regret it.
It's the update that also gave us the job specific LBs if I recall right? I remember using Teraflare with my SMN in Midas for the first time instead of the meteor it was amazing
Correct. You'd treat your anima weapon with aether oils that cost tomes but the alliance raid gave you a free oil upon clearing it for the week. But that wasn't until patch 3.3
i have always been a casual player in 14 and i dont remember hw first patches being that bad the game was semi recent, we had a lot of classes to try and level, crafting was good dungeons were a BIG step up from ARR so high level roulettes were really good normal raiding was new and not bad, and void ark was awesome
3.2 is when I started 14 my first mmo and oh boy it was a challenge didn't know a damn thing about the game. Playing dps and pulling all the mobs in a dungeon not knowing wtf a rotation was. Omg it was definitely embarrassing

I was only lvl 43, still in ARR, just plugging away on weekends, lving other jobs was such a dumb idea with how often I had to just stop and do them, and I have never seen a man so angry at a video game in my life. Haps is not lying, that robot gauntlet was not well thought out at all and each time I look up guides I just go, "what were they thinking" Not too bad today, obviously, but in HW, the playerbase was CONSIDERABLY dumber. Never forget people saying Nidhogg was busted because players just didn't mit.
I believe it went to court but was judged that because its in the same vein as the music genre that its a part of it was bound to sound similar but ultimately not the song.

Your retrospectives of these are much more negative than I remember these patches to be. All of my friends and I were in a hyper-casual raiding group (didn't even do A6S until after nerfs) and this is honestly the first time I've heard these really negative opinions
The mentor system is a joke. A lot of normies play and know the game better than mentors. To be honest they should add another requirement, like defeating at least 5 Extreme fights (Sync). Just because you play healer or tank and are "nice", dosen't mean you should be a mentor.
Mentorship is a mix of skill and personality. You should be at least moderately knowledgeable... and the current requirements meet that. Max rank with all roles plus 1500 commendations and 1000 dungeon runs. Someone clearing endgame content may be one of the best players on their server and still be a total knob that you wouldn't want welcoming people into the game or community. As long as the mentor program is a checklist and doesn't have any manual vetting process, it will be a mixed bag.
