Thank you. I studied for years with a teacher who was not big on Dharma talk. Any pearls of wisdom was off the mat. Now that I am getting certified, I want to do the Dharma opening.
Yes Denise! it's so important to honor that and know that the Yogic wisdom is a fundamental part of the practice that can be incorporated into every class. Plus, it's a great practice in strengthening your voice. Everyone teaches differently. I know some teachers who teach strictly Asana and some who love to weave philosophy into their classes. Follow what feels true and inspiring for you!
I'm taking my first 200 hr YTT right now and our next assignment is to create a Dharma talk -- 5 minutes! (I think she wants us to try to do a longer one so that we feel more prepared later on). So glad I found this video for a little more inspiration. I'm still feeling very nervous because I want it to be special, but this made me feel a little better about not having to be so serious, but authentic. Looks like I'm going back to the Yoga Sutras for a little more inspiration :)
I just rewatch this video, i watched it the first time when i started teaching almost 2 years ago and this depth has become more important now for me. Thank you 💟
Awww Laura, that means so much to me. Isn't it so interesting how our teaching journey evolves?! I'm glad you're diving deeper into the Dharma side of things! Any more support you need in this area or questions you have, you know where to find me! Keep sharing your voice and your wisdom xo
Great advice.....I always provide Dharma talk while setting sacred space. I find it can last 5-6 mins while giving them breathing as well. The best part is see when people are finally still....when all the dust settles and then we move ....great advice ...!!!
Ahhh yes! Thank you for sharing this. And thank you for understanding the importance and value or Dharma talks! The amount of time I usually spend on a dharma talk depends on the length of the class. Namaste!
This was so helpful, thank you so much Shayna. I'll be teaching my first yoga classes in the coming weeks and having your guidance is so reassuring. I already feel like a better yoga teacher because I can utilize your TH-cam channel and your online yoga business course. Much love to you. 💙
Marissa Tims how magical! I wish you nothing but success during this time of teaching your first classes! I’m so grateful to be connected and share information that inspires you and supports you in reading your dreams. 🌸🌸🌸

Perfect! Thank you! I just started teaching and i have always felt like starting the class with a small talk, just a short moment of Stillness to start the Practice. I didn't know it was called a Dharma talk! I will keep giving the short little burst of inspiration! Yeah!!
When I in an opened place and heard the airplane’s sound as your video 😆 can I say to them this is a universal sign reminding you that you are in your own sky , breathing the clouds, having the freedom to flow with your spirit in your body universe... I love noticing signs from every small event or even small creatures✨ Listening to your videos has opened my heart by your inspiring heart Thank you!! Sending you a universal love energy ❤️ Ala

1.1k views and less than 100 likes? Why are people so ungrateful. Thank you so much for your time and information. It’s actually reassuring my confidence on this new venture. 🙏
lucky lakshman hey! Thanks for your comment. Can you tell me what you want to know about ishwara pranidhana? Meaning, I’m what context? How to teach it to students? How to practice it as a teacher? Let me know so I can answer your question with a video accurately! Namaste.
Build Your Personal Yoga Business Thank you Shayana for acknowledging. It'd be great If you could make a video covering these points. 1.it's fundamental meaning and how a teacher can explain to his/her students in a simplified way 2. what can it offer to different people in the society. He may be a normal vegetable seller in a busy market like India or a criminal who has got death sentence and intensly trying to let go of the regret. 3. If time permits, please share an example in your life how practicing Ishwar Pranidan helped you so that it can inspire us. Namaste!🙏
Hello shayna! I watched all your videos and loved them. I'm doing my ytt200hrs from this Friday. I'm super excited. Could you please tell me which books that you recommended on this video inspire your dharma talks? Thank you and namaste 🙏🏼
Awesome! I wish you an enlightening experience at your YTT! One of my favorite books for Dharma Talks is 'An Offering Of Leaves' by Ruth Lauer-Manenti and I sometimes use the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Satchidananda -- both on Amazon... Namaste!
