The most interesting thing about Yongcheng & Consort Jia is that there are a few times once he's grown where he disagrees with his mother's scheming & tries to talk her out of it. She plows ahead and it pushes them off the cliff. If she had listened to her son even once, both of their fates might have been different.
Exactly! If you look into it deeply, yongcheng was talented and had a reasonable head on his shoulders, had his mother not messed him up. Infact had Jia not raised him improperly, he'd have become the ideal crown prince, cause let's be real, even if yongqi was capable, he was too easily manipulated by the first pretty docile girl he saw into turning against the woman who raised him.
Being royalty sounds great until you have to put the whole country before your own wellbeing. Jingse realized the same when she got married off. On another note, Jia transforms into a whole nother person when speaking to her children. You get a glimpse of who she could've been if she didn't feel she had to fight for survival and glory everyday in the Forbidden City. Similar to when she's speaking about or looking at the Yu clan Lord.
Yes, she will never forgive you. You basically handed her off in marriage to her husband's murderer and let him rape her. She even carries her rapist's child. That's the most degrading thing for a woman, for any human being. This asshole Emperor could've chosen someone else for the marriage alliance, but still insisted in marrying Hengchuo, afraid that she'd be kept hostage, killed or raped, which still actually happened after marrying Dawachi...like, really? Also, for the killing part, Dawachi would never take the life of a foreign princess who was useful as blackmail and a bargaining chip. By giving her in marriage to him, Qianlong makes her Dawachi's property, which was much more dangerous and humiliated the Qing Empire too, because Dawachi could do anything he wanted. Had no money to start a war? Send someone else for the marriage! It's not like Dawachi specifically asked for Hengchuo's hand in the first place, like the Khorchin did with Jingse.
@cringecat3614: Duanchu, Dawachi, Dzungar, I am so bad trying to learn and use the right names. Duanchu is Hengchuo. She was just forced to marry Dawachi who is the slob. Who was she married to for 20 years? Was the defeated Dzungar the first husband? Who is the one who forced his wife to commit suicide and isn't he the one who Jia is so gaga over? Don't tell me Dawachi and "the Lord" are one in the same !!! He was handsome. Doesn't the Emperor keep Hengchuo and send him back? I'm so confused. I am glad you explained about raping Hengchuo. I didn't realize that. That is no joke. I doubt the first husband was much of a prize either. Do we know what happened to those children? If Dawachi is Jia's handsome "Lord" I remember thinking he looked like a Prince of Darkness. I would love to see this unedited and in order. Is there some reason everybody's name from there has to start with "D"?
@@joiionni2186 Jia's lord was the Lord of the Yu Clan of Joseon (Korea). He's not Dawachi, nor has anything to do with Princess Hengchuo. Dawachi was the chief of the Dzungar Tribe of Mongolia. Hengchuo was married to the previous chief, but her husband was usurped and killed by Dawachi. She was then married off against her will to Dawachi by her brother, the Emperor, who couldn't afford a war with Dzungar at the time because the treasury being spent to deal with floods, so Qianlong made that arrangement to "protect" his hostage sister and appease Dawachi for a time. It wasn't mentioned that she had any kids by the previous chief, but she did get pregnant with Dawachi's child. In this scene, the Emperor finally defeated Dawachi with the help of Jia's clan, the Yu, and with the help of Consort Ying's clan, the Barin Tribe. Dawachi was captured and brought to the capitol, and Hengchuo was rescued, but she's already pregnant with his child, so she can't divorce him. That's why the Empress Dowager wants her daughter to move in with her to Cining Palace, so they can be together and get Hengchuo out of Dawachi's sight. Duanshu is Hengchuo's title when she married the first chief of Dzungar Tribe. According to Qing Dynasty tradition, princesses receive titles upon getting married. In Jingse's case, Qianlong's daughter and Hengchuo's niece, she received hers (Hejing) when she was still a child, before marrying, because she was the Emperor's only daughter, and born to the main bloodline (the Empress), so Qianlong loved her deeply and spoiled her.
@@cringecat3614 : Thanks for your time and effort in clearing that up. So, Dzungar is not a person and we do not really know who Hengchuo's first husband was in much detail. Since she is now pregnant does that mean she can't ever divorce or just until the child is born? Now I understand why nobody wants to be married off to them. Dawachi would have to go. He needs to go off to that annual hunting place and have an accident. He sounds disgusting. I gather you have read the book as well. Can an English translation be found? I also must say that the Emperor did have a problem with compromising and protecting his loved ones.
@@joiionni2186 Actually, I haven't read the novel. I would love to, though. I'm just pointing the plot in the series. If she has a child, is very unlikely she'll be able to get divorced. Fujia, the Empress Dowager's maid, said so in the series. But doesn't mean she can't become a widow, as you said 😜
...Y'know, Qianlong could have gone with a compromise over just restoring Yuyan to her status quo ante. Gone with "release & rehabilitate her, but demote her as a lasting punishment" - say, to Concubine Jia or even Noble Lady Jia (5th/6th ranked wife, not 3rd-ranked Noble Consort). Thus, the Yu clan is appeased, and Yuyan is told that if she insists on making a fuss about it, they'll go public - with all the dirty deets about her machinations. To save face (for herself and her kids), she'll go along with it, and Ruyi's position as Empress will be upheld.
This Dzugar must be quite a slob. I'm sorry we haven't seen him yet. Poor Hengcho must had a rough time having to "receive his grace" as they call it. She is still pretty angry with Hongli after 20 years. I can't see why a sudden decline in his health can't be arranged. This bunch is better than the Borgias. This is the first time I have seen a eunuch hold the Emperor's hand when walking. I wonder if His Majesty was able to go to the bathroom by himself and if he was allowed to handle his own business. Poor Ruyi, having to listen to that "I've compromised you" crap for the hundredth time. I suppose we should all be grateful that he at least tells her before he goes ahead and does as he pleases.
