    Tip for your pup. If he has a return of eye problems you can use Povidone Iodine. Take a cotton Qtip soak it with the Povidone Iodine gently dab it along the bottom & inside corners of the eyes. Once or twice a day as needed. Also use OTC eye drops Pataday or generic version, follow directions. Infection should clear in 7 days. Research other uses for Povidone Iodine. It's useful for many problems.💖🐕⛵🐬🤗S/V Cork~Texas

    A lesson I learned several decades ago. When cleaning the hull anchor in an area with a strong tidal flow. Start from the bow and move to the stern, that way the bugs tend to get moved ahead of you with the tidal current. Put cotton or something in your ears to keep the bugs out. Good luck.

    • @sailorama

      Yeah it’s a really good idea to put cotton buds in for sure - Robi has had some of these little bugger types in his ear causing havoc before. 👍

    Aloha guys. I took am a liveaboard cruiser, and I have found myself in the same area you were in during this video. If you're still in the area, I found a great little Anchorage just south of West Palm beach. Lake Ave bridge, in Lake Worth, Florida. It's only 10 MI south of the downtown West Palm Beach area, and there's barely any boats here. It seems like everybody's up in the downtown and peanut Island area, instead. There's a free public dock, boat ramp, and even water at fish fillet stations right there at the public dock. It definitely makes for some easy fill ups on the water tanks. There iss the Dollar store two blocks from the dock, so you can get ice pretty close by. There's a Publix grocery store half a mile in, and there's even a laundromat a 1/3 mi inland. Right off the boat ramp, is a huge park. Your dog would love it. The only thing bad about this area is, it makes you pretty lazy. Everything's so convenient and nice, that you don't want to leave. It's amazing how few boats are here, as well. If you're still in the area, you have to check it out. It's a nice place to relax and unwind a bit. Aloha!

      It truly makes us smile to hear when people living aboard find a great spot it’s the simple things that make life liveable, water access, groceries, laundry, dogs - do enjoy it while it lasts! We have moved on since the video. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

    I have known the peanut island area well. My funky homemade catamaran was anchored there for a few years, My 2009 Bahamas trip was out of that inlet. Even back then, there was no good place to dinghy dock to access services. Florida can be a very inhospitable place to boat at times, unless you are rich.

    You definitely don't want to touch those power lines with an aluminium mast, the boat might be glassfibre but there are wires running throughout the mast and the boat. The amount of electricity those power lines carry will create a path through your boat wiring to the water and will easily arc a 3 foot gap so you really need to allow 10 feet of clearance for safety.
    That amount of power would be a lot like a lightening strike if your mast touched a power line, keep clear !

    • @sailorama
      @sailorama  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Very interesting to think about! The comparison to lightening strike is helpful. Our mast still needs to be grounded properly - the current jury rigged set up is chain running from the backstay into the water. It’s not very scientific - I hope stay and chain are large enough to disperse lightening strike.

    • @ian-c.01
      @ian-c.01 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@sailorama The thing about lightening strikes is the current moves extremely quickly and will run along multiple paths in milliseconds and disperse through many channels. That kind of power will go through switches that have been turned off and fuses that have blown to get to earth, it will find it's way through your engine and along the prop shaft and any through-hulls that bring water in for the engine. It doesn't settle for one path, it creates as many as necessary. A chain from the backstay into the water is a pretty good idea in theory and may help to reduce damage in the event of a strike but it won't prevent it completely.

    I'm sitting watching you struggle with your sails, knowing I have a brand new, never used sewing machine still in the box. 😢 I would love to help, but I'm on Lake Michigan. The really sad part is I'm less than an hour away from one of the best sail making places in the US. They also manufacture a machine to make sails. Sailrite, I know they work with youtubers.

    How far north are you planing to go? is this just a trip to get some parts before heading back south? I realise Inesperado needs some gear to get back to comfortable cruising condition but the USA looks a bit crowded for your normal preferences so hopefully you'll be back to less stressful waters soon enough.
    Oh what happened to de-esperado, do you still have him?

    • @sailorama
      @sailorama  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That’s as far north a Ines went this year, it looks like. We definitely like the less crowded waters, that’s for sure. But it was worth seeing what it was all about! Our little proa lives with friends near Bacalar, Mexico - hopefully to sail the lake down there - we wish they had social media to share the project.

    Im so shocked that someone doesnt have a business reclaiming abandoned boats!

    • @sailorama
      @sailorama  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah my complaint is that it would cost a normal person hundreds/thousands of usd to file the paperwork and remove a wreck if they wanted to undertake such a project. We came to the US to get boat parts - when we saw all these wrecks we looked into perhaps trying to do some salvage - but it’s simply not feasible. The owners of the wrecks run away because they can’t deal with the costs, and then any business/clean up opportunity is lost because the laws honestly just kinda suck.

    I recognize the c-707 bridge, just went through it a week ago., ok you guys are heading South! I just covered all that territory going north. Florida hates cruisers. Make it a colossal pain in the (_!_) to get ashore. My lesson after coming up from the Keys is to go on the outside and get out of Florida as soon as possibly. The keys are just as bad. Marathon in Boot Key is pretty good but you have the $$ for the mooring or dinghy dock. Wear full body covering and a wetsuit hood so those little shrimp don't get in your ears.

    • @sailorama
      @sailorama  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah the shrimps in the ears is a real problem. We sometimes put cotton in, and flush out our ears after a session like that.

    I witnessed the aftermath of a catamaran that hit a high voltage cable that serviced NASA. Not only did he cut the power for NASA he totaled the boat. Rigging hardened after glowing red mast blackened and electrics all ruined. He blamed the bridge tender for not warning him.

    • @sailorama
      @sailorama  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! Didn’t think about that - frying the rigging (even if it didn’t come down) could change the metal composition…sounds like quite the aftermath to see. Thanks for the comment!

    After watching many different sailing channels for years, I am always shocked by what an unapologetic sh*thole Florida and the US is. And I'm a US naturalized citizen.
    Secondly, leaving your half sunken boat for a year without salvaging it is equivalent to not picking up your trash. The owners of those boats should be fined heavily. If you can't afford to pull your boat out, you can't afford a boat.
    I dont understand why the cities and states that have these water ways don't have programs to pull these vessels and confiscate them.

    • @sailorama
      @sailorama  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Our understanding is that people do not come and pick up their trash boats because they are running away from fines and large costs that they would have to pay to clean up - that’s why the program I mentioned to help boat owners surrender boats that they cannot handle anymore seems super reasonable. I think that it should also be made easier/legal for the public to pick-apart and help remove abandoned wrecks. As it stands, filing the paperwork alone to try and salvage is way too much. Robi and I could have probably floated 4 - 5 boats in the last month just as a fun side project if the law allowed it…

      Some day even plastic boats can end - the saddest part (obviously our opinion) is that they impede the cruising/moving/liveaboard folks.
