      I am so glad that this band of brave men have been recognised for thier bravery today! The Irish army is an army of honour and ethos…,,,may Almighty God be with them always!

    The only occasion of Irish military forces fighting against opponents was at Jadotville, in the Congo on 13 September 1961. Brilliantly described in Declan Power's "Siege at Jadotville", published by Blackstone in 2011.

    The baluba tribesmen ambushed and killed 12 Irish peace keepers thinkinking they were belgian mercerneries employed by the Belgian mininig companies in Katanga!
