This zebra finch is in a FAR TO SMALL cage. Expand it to at least two feet long and one feet tall so that it has enough space to fly around and stretch his wings. Poor guy, he is trying to call out for a mate. Such a small cage and no partner can cause depression...which can lead to death. PLEASE be more careful with the bird’s health.
Dude, please get a cage that is wider and longer and purchase at least one other finch. Finches are not designed to be alone, a parrot can be alone as long as they have out of cage time and plenty of human interactions but finches do not like to be held by humans and need other finches around. They are definitely a flock bird. Please research before getting pets, your bird is calling for a companion. This breaks my heart.

My finches have a different response too to the chirping of this bird. They silently listen to it, while they always sing along when they listen to other finches. I feel sorry and worried for this little bird on it's own in a small cage.

Unfortunately that's the sound of a zebra finch in distress because it's alone, separated from a flock. Zebra finches should absolutely never be kept alone. They'll live in a state of deep distress and die very young.
Bigger cage, a regularly changed bathtub and a mate. Make sure he doesn't sit in a drafty spot either, placing birds near windows is generally a bad idea. Also taming finches doesn't really work if they were not hand fed as babies.
I have 2 bungie Parakeet's.They are stubborn and fun to handle with slowly progressing on there own terms training comes entering in a new environment.Bungie birds at least takes 2 to 3 weeks warm up to the new surrounding.Making a cage busy safe proof entertainment toys helps break the ice to training felling in a safe place.Important talk to a Bungie all times because they love to interact,entertainment with a owner

Someone had two zebra finches and they gave the male one to us because it was not nice to the female. So we gave him his own cage and he loved it. He liked being alone. He had a swing, he had a little birdbath, he had a mirror with colorful round things that spun around as he pecked at them. He liked when we put shredded paper towels and little pieces of twine in his cage. He had his own sleeping routine and liked his cage covered up with a bath towel and if you removed the towel before morning he would get crabby and let you know about it (his angry chirp) until you put the towel back. In the morning he would chirp so much. As soon as that sun came up he was chirping. That was his happy chirp. At 6 p.m. every day like clockwork he took a bath. He was a happy finch. So I am not sure if all finches necessarily have to have company in their cages.
omg same!!! the time with his Female was horrible, for him as well as for me. she was treating him badly in our case. she is gone for 2 weeks now and.he can't be happier. he flies and chirps more than ever. and is so less scared in general.
They're lovely birds! Free them at home. They're gonna love it. No worries. They'll come back to the cage once they need to eat or drink or bath ! And they'll be sitting on top of the curtain rods. Cute Cute !

Also what does lazyness have to do with the number of birds that someone keeps ?

I have a single male finch..his mate died 5 months ago! I put a hand mirror on the bottom of his cage and he sits on it ..talking !!! I play finch videos so he has company..he seems ok!!

Get him a flight cage like a Prevue Hendryx F040 or F050, put some real branches inside and a few more friends. It'll look nicer to you too.
Seriously, he is stressed and that cage is tiny and ancient. It's got rust all over it. He needs a companion desperately as well as an enclosure that's at least 8 times larger. They need hay or coconut hair to keep beak active a house they can retreat to for peace and rest. So much you don't know or have for him. Heartbreaking.

Get the poor thing a friend and a 30×18×18 flight cage. If you care about your bird, give him what he needs to be happy. I have one finch right now because her hubby got sick and died and I am waiting to make sure she is healthy before getting a new one. Then as soon as she has been quarantined to my satisfaction I will get her a new friend.

The cage isnt bad for 1 to 2 zebras. . But rearranging the sticks (perches) so he can be in corners and have more space from side to side. There should be an assortment of different length sticks , should always be wood . The long one should be right up to the seed cups or toward the back

It's a he. Males have coloured cheecks, as well as the grey collar and the colourful feathers under the wings. It is indeed a small cage and he does need a friend. However, they can be very agressive with new comers. They are pretty teritorial. Mine are, at least. :)

Get another cage that allows a little flying room. Birds need to go sideways (horizontal) not up and down so much; and get another (female or male) zebra finch for this lonely bird.

Get the poor thing a friend and a 30×18×18 flight cage. If you care about your bird, give him what he needs to be happy. I have one finch right now because her hubby got sick and died and I am waiting to make sure she is healthy before getting a new one. Then as soon as she has been quarantined to my satisfaction I will get her a new friend.

I just bought a pair last week and the male sings like the high pitch music from Laser Quest or it sound like Star Wars they get along great with my four other American Canaries !!

This is sad. ALONE? I had a pair, and that pair gave us 3 little birds 💗 one died due to health, the two of them are still here, so I have 4 and never alone, you should consider a friend and a better cage... That's sad. They're not only "birds", they're family too.
As others have said he really needs a mate. Zebras are very gregarious.
The cage isnt bad for 1 to 2 zebras. . But rearranging the sticks (perches) so he can be in corners and have more space from side to side. There should be an assortment of different length sticks , should always be wood . The long one should be right up to the seed cups or toward the back
This bird should have a mate and not be lonely. You also should get it a bigger cage. I have 2 zebra finches with a big enough cage and each other.

It's a he. Males have coloured cheecks, as well as the grey collar and the colourful feathers under the wings. It is indeed a small cage and he does need a friend. However, they can be very agressive with new comers. They are pretty teritorial. Mine are, at least. :)

Get another cage that allows a little flying room. Birds need to go sideways (horizontal) not up and down so much; and get another (female or male) zebra finch for this lonely bird.
hello I’m not sure if you can see this comment. I have an male zebra finch and the female passed away two days ago. I know he needs a companion. Is it okay to bring another male one? (the male zebra finch picked too much fur from the female so I’m worried that the same thing might happen if I bring a female friend)
