    I have a really good ear and have been playing country for years and have performed and recorded with some really great pedal steel players. The vast majority of listeners will not even know this is not an actual pedal steel. (I do some Dim Pro viola on a couple songs and people were surprised because they never know I played "violin")

    Really cool, Andrew! I am wondering if it is possible to do long octave smooth slides like how Steve Howe does in the band Yes (for example And You And I song or Soon song)? I love that effect and would love that capability in a Pedal Steel guitar library...Probably really difficult to pull off though playing from a keyboard controller.

    sounds great. what is the minimum number of keys on the midi keyboard do you need to take advantage of all those color coded keys? I have an AKAI MPKmini 15 white keys. If that is too few keys, can you give a list of 3 or so keyboards that would work with Pedal Steel? Thanks

    • @zirconst
      @zirconst 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The playable range of the instrument would just barely fit within a 49 key, so I would definitely recommend 61 at a minimum. It has a wide range not counting any of the keyswitches. However you don't NEED to use the keyswitches in one take. You can record once for the melody and then again to capture harmonies and other articulations via keyswitch.

    I absolutely love this plug-in. I always wanted to have access to a pedal steel, but they’re like 1000 bucks or something. And I don’t know how to play one anyway. Also, it has to be said. I am blind. So the ease of installation once I got everything together was amazing. I was able to install it quickly. And more important, it talks right out of the box. For me, being blind, this is a plus as I have been forced to use vision substitution apps for some plugins. I do not think console mode shows up with speech though. Anyway, can you make a country fiddle with the same kind of harmonizing and sliding capibility but doing what fiddles do not guitars? So far my search for anything that even touches this pedal steel in the fiddle department has left me wanting. Also, how do you make the notes sound like they are fading in? I can't remember what that was called, but I saw it in the beginning of the video.

    • @zirconst
      @zirconst 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michelle, Console is not quite screen reader compatible - I apologize for that. Our goal should be to make more snapshots with various tone options, which you can load more easily. Fiddle sounds like an interesting project! Have you checked out Red Room Audio's fiddle options?

    Does anyone know how the "Volume Pedal" is being adjusted? Is it being done with a physical pedal or some other magic. I noticed that the volume level pretty consistently ends up at, or very close to, 92. Just curious.

    This is a great product, but I think most of us really need some in-depth tutorials to figure out how best to use it. As others here have said, the demo session files help, but they don't explain why each setting is used and how to configure the Harmonization set up works, etc. I'll keep trying but it would be much easier with some real tutorials. Thanks.

    I decided to come back into music after a 30 year break. I tried playng the guitar again but the co-ordination was all over the place. I had to take a realty check and realise that I cant just pick up an instrument and start playing again. I decided to go down the electronic route and I have been amazed. Country was one of my passions and I have looked everywhere for a decent steel pedal patch. This looks great but after reading the reviews there is gonna be a lot of hard work ahead. It has taken six months to put together a guitar run and a few major chords on a guitar patch.

      In fairness, that’s what a live musician would cost for one session. By the time you’ve used this on 3 tracks, you’ve got your money’s worth.

      @stevenleonmusic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nickanton7983 The thing is these VSTis are so complex that by the time you've mastered them you are essentially worth as much as a live musician playing them. Unless this thing has amazing automation it's basically like overpriced Ikea furniture. The live musician already knows how to play when you hire them.

      @@ImpactSoundworksLLC A couple questions and favors.
      Would it be possible to get the settings, notes, and key switches for Ashokan Farewell, Emmylou, and the country demo that starts at 4:19? I’m not getting the same sound.
      I’m especially not hearing the note sustain. How do you get that? With the Mod Wheel? How do you control the Mod Wheel? Do I need a keyboard sustain pedal?
      And the pitch/note bending. How do you do that? Is it related to the express volume?
      Sorry for all the questions but I love the product and I really want to get the sound you get. I’m planning to use it in live shows.

      @@kbwhite06 Hi Ken, I'm also working on using pedal steel VST's for live performance. Do you have an expression pedal for your midi controller? That helps if you start the note with the pedal backed off and then press it down as the note plays.
      On the subject of getting this to work for live performance. I've been watching many hours of beginner pedal steel instruction tutorials here on TH-cam. I've also studied the history of the instrument to better understand the current E9 setup. The pedal steel players who stumble across videos of VST pedal steel instruments are correct that the real instrument has more potential of expression, but I disagree that the VST can't also be played with emotion. It's a different instrument that can sound very similar. When the pedals were added players waited between notes to bend the string, so it still sounded "Hawaiian". Most people using a VST pedal steel are looking to sweeten their country recordings. They play in the melody and then work on it afterwards in a midi editor to increase the realism. Look up Tod Stilwell if you want to hear the pinnacle of that kind of effort (using his own Kontakt library).
      My love of slide guitar led me to lap steel and finally pedal steel. I can play decent slide guitar and have a lapsteel but purchasing a pedal steel and transporting it to live performances isn't going to work for the acoustic and electric rock music I play so instead I'm pursuing this avenue. My goal is to play as much like a real pedal steel as my knowledge of the instrument applied to the midi controller allows. I've been thinking about finding a pedal streel instructor open minded enough to teach just the theory and help me translate licks to the VST 's.

    Why do these people insist on saying the word 'functionality' when they really mean 'function'. Are they trying to impress us with their bigger words?

    • @ImpactSoundworksLLC
      @ImpactSoundworksLLC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Functionality" is a little more grammatically correct here, because we're talking about several things. The "functionality" consists of the keyswitches (which trigger harmonies when held), the script which they trigger, and the harmonization editor.
