- Knuckles the Echidna is struggling with the pressure of being the guy, the hero, the Sonic the Hedgehog replacement. He’s treating his friends like rubbish, because he’s scared. When it’s no longer Sonic AND Knuckles, and just Knux by himself… well, it becomes Sonic vs Knuckles… at least in the dreadlocked tough guy’s head.
At least Tails is here to try and give The Red Dude a bit of a pep talk. After all, what are friends for? And that pep talk is necessary, because there’s a massive Sonic boom coming in the form of a ginormous kaiju. So, unless Mr. Guardian can become Super Knuckles, and eliminate the Sonic prime threat, this civilisation is done for. There’s Something About Knuckles… and that something better be courage.

I think I’m starting to see the pattern now. Tails exploits the most extreme version of each character, preys on their insecurities, until they ultimately kill their version of Sonic.

The moment Tails said "What are friends for?", my suspicions were confirmed. I believe 'other' Tails is manipulating Knuckles to be violent and it will inadvertently, result in the death of his companions.
I also wonder if the Amy in the battlemech is that world's version of the character, or if she is the 'other' Amy.

I feel bad
Being a knuckles enthusiast, I already expected him to be mean because he's scared of failing the city. But the way it was presented is kinda awesome though. I also realized the reoccurring plot of Tails somehow getting his victim to kill their dimension's Sonic. I'm excited to see how this will go.
The only thing I could see going wrong with the plan is if knuckles tells the mech crew that the beast they have been fighting is Sonic and that he trapped inside the beast but I doubt tails will let it come to that.
Oh my gosh you're right amy killed sonic in her own world and if knuckles kills sonic it his world I'm getting the feeling that it's connected to how tails is trying to sacrifice some of sonics but by using/manipulate the other characters like amy and knuckles kill sonic in order make his ideal sonic, by probably taking it's life source from their abandon world so he make his own world as well. but my only question is what he is gonna do with amy and knuckles? Cause i don't know if he'll give them what they wanted

I like the development of Knuckles in the episode because it shows the inner parts of the character. It shows a more deeper personality. He is draconian towards his duty and treats his teammates harshly but is also hurt on the inside. His best friend is gone. He has responsibility that he isn't prepared to weigh down on put on his back and some of his allies dont see him as a leader. He is scared that if he doesn't get strong enough he will fail sonic in protecting the city he sworn to protect

Personally I think Black Knight cutscenes were pretty spot on as they are. If they were fully animated in 2D, it'd be slightly disconnecting of the storybook feel they established in the first game.

Sonic and Tails leaving to kill that monster, only tails returning with the suit, the black and white art style and this creepy piano music in the background.
I wonder if Tails is the one to blame that Sonic is inside that monster.
I mean, it is not like they would have gone alone, the others sure would have come along if they knew. But I am guessing that Tails convinced him to go alone. Maybe he saw Sonic as an imposter again and stabbed him in the back, like he did in Amy's world.
Also I love how Knuckles is showed in this season. Like in Sonic forces, Knuckles is not being a good leader, bc he can't handle the pressure. He wants his friends to work hard to protect the people bc he doesn't want anyone to die anymore. Since Sonic's death he probably worked very hard, so hard that he forgot that his friends need breaks too.
I guess Knuckles is slowly going crazy and none of his friends notice that, except Tails, who could use it for his plans to destroy this world like he did with Amy's.
Being under pressure the whole time can make people do things they never would have wanted and I bet that's going to happen in the next episode.
I bet they could still save Sonic, but Tails wants him dead bc he knows too much about him and his plans.
More depth and character was given to Knuckles in about 3 minutes then some shows do in a season.
Not to mention the voice acting that made it all the more sincere.

I am not even sure Knuckles is a canon character. I didn't remember him from the show, and I know Amy isn't.
I miss Sally. She was his motivation, his reason for fighting, she was his princess.

@@rphb5870 That was like, an Archie thing? You're thinking of the old cartoon which is technically way separate from most other Sonic content in recent years, aside from I guess the comics that part of Sonic content is dead.
Seeing how Knuckles actually feels about being the leader made me go back to watch part 1. One thing I took notice was Amy's first expressions towards Knuckles after the battle that made me think she's more angry than disappointed at Knuckles' late appearance. This could just be my little theory, but when the blue suit was brought back after Sonic's defeat, the story might've gotten mixed up somehow with Tails feeling guilt over not being able to do anything to save him, and since it was tasked with Knuckles to take over the blue suit (I suspect it had to be him because he originally had the 2nd strongest mech), Amy might've had some strong hate towards him because, as Knuckles said to himself, he was jealous and wanted to try being leader for once than being muscle. Out of this statement, Amy probably knew that's what he wanted, and since it was practically handed to him on a silver platter after Sonic's supposed death, she blames Knuckles for Sonic's death. To add more because of this possible fuming hate for Knuckles, she strongly suggests that he's no leader because he is no Sonic, which means she believes he didn't deserve the placement for how bad of a leader she thinks he is. Even Knuckles understands he's not a good leader because of how rough he can be to everyone. Practically ordering them to do better because he knows he's not a good leader, and he still needs their help to fight even if he doesn't show it, because he wants to be seen as a strong leader rather than a scared one. He has to put on a strong act in order to protect everyone because since he is now the current leader, he is stuck with it, even if he truly believes he is not cut-out for it anymore.

Tails starts out by comforting the character and offering "solutions", one that would/could result in Sonic's death
Character in question idolizes Sonic and has crippling self doubt.
Tails knows a secret about that world's Sonic that isn't revealed to the character until a crucial moment
Seeing the hints that this isn't this world's Tails really helps you see what SH Tails is looking for. Extremes. An Amy who's extremely lovesick but is constantly heartbroken. A Knuckles that takes being tough too far to hide fear. Tails himself takes the best friend role to an extreme.

These are way better than they have any right to be. Netflix is struggling to make media with established,widely-loved stories, but Mashed is out here crushing an extended universe based on a blue hedgehog that runs fast, and doing it with a fraction of the storytelling time.

Things are probably easier when crew can actually animate for their fans instead of having higher-ups cancel half of their show ideas.

They basically just Buffalo Bill-style wear the name of the series like a grotesque skin suit lol

My theory: The Mad Tails, apparently is gathering all of Sonic's friends from different universes to the dimension of the
"True" Sonic for who knows what.
And from what I see, these characters he's looking for are broken inside, needing Sonic by their side.
Amy who was obsessed with being with Sonic and now turned into a monster that Mad Tails turned, and now he will go for Knuckles, who is feeling weak, feeling like a lousy leader since his best friend Sonic is gone.

All of them want some sort of connection with sonic. First with Amy just wanting sonic to notice her and now with Knuckles who feels like he’s getting weak and isn’t standing up to the bar that sonic set as a leader.

I just think the vibe that these series of videos have is really cool, some videos focus on funnier plots and others really create a unique story that is super well written like "There's something about amy" that is linked with another animation with a super serious atmosphere and they create a universe with these stories. The work that mashed does with their videos is amazing

Does anyone else think the red crystal in the beast’s eyes will be significant at the end of this chapter? Tails used a pink one in Amy’s chapter to power a portal and maybe it will be that red one when he leaves with Knuckles.
The moment I heard “what are friends for” I am now terrified that Secret History Tails has once again disguised himself as another Tails and manipulating Knuckles to becoming what he wants him to be.
He would have the perfect opportunity for it too since Tails apparently "came back" from when Sonic got into that thing.

Alright, let's see if I can predict this:
-Knuckles finds a way to kill it. Amy blames Knuckles for killing Sonic, claiming he was jealous. Turns out Tails is also the crazy one and wanted Knuckles to kill Sonic and he recruits Knuckles.
-Knuckles tries to kill it, but the Kaiju manages to kill everyone else before then. With nothing left, Knuckles is recruited by Crazy Tails into forming something of a 'Crazy' Sonic team.
You're not wrong the real question is who is the song that he's bringing them to. the obvious choices of fanon are sonic exe or fleetaway sonic, but we could get something completely different.

Very well crafted story, foreshadowing, animation, voice acting, every element! When tails quickly switched his emotion subtly to a pleasure filled smirk when he said "part of it." Damn... You guys are good.

Well I’m fairly familiar that the Tails is 90% Secret History Tails due to the line, “What’re friends for?” But I am 46% debating whether SH Tails brought TSAA Amy and made her impersonate the Amy of this universe.
Losing Sonic is really heartbreaking for Knuckles. He’s been going through grief after losing someone he looks up to and he has been drinking and going insane which isn’t healthy for him. I just wish Knuckles would get the help he needs to get better

on god hearing tails say "what are friends for" caused the entire amy series to flash before my eyes
I love the little references like Tekno's grave or how you can spot so many characters in this.
My gosh.. that was... I even don't have words to describe this beautiful episode, I even don't expect that sonic in this dimension could be the "bad guy"(?), Mashed team, if you read this, you are more than awesome 💜
Another chapter, another buildup to the Secret History Tails reveal.
This chapter makes more and more clear through three keys details:
1. "What are friends for?", his new catchphrase
2. Tails didn't seem to remember that the original Tails of this world followed Sonic to his death, or accidental fusion with the titan
3. I doubt that the actual Tails of this world would give a look of darkness covering his eyes, or would say with such certainty to kill the titan, and thus kill what's left of Sonic. It's a pattern that's being followed with the Amy he recruited, although whether or not he intended for Sonic to die I personally doubt.
Hearing the what are friends for really shows how well it was used in something about amy. Its memorable.
Okay mashed, I need to come out and say this. You know, you KNOW that you have made a amazing series when whenever I hear tails say "what are friends for?" I physically flinch and shiver. Well done, keep up the good work

I really love that surprise with silver actually operating Knuckle’s previous robot during part 1. Like the shadowy way he was drawn temporarily before the reveal is impressive. And then when it zooms in on knuckles to pause and the start this part 2 with his contemplation all alone
“What are friends for?”, the fact that he was apparently the only one who followed Sonic towards his doom, and the speech + twist seriously makes me consider this being SA Tails.
And if it is, I’m wondering what mashed’s end game is here. Collecting all of their friends after corrupting them in some way and bringing them along to who?
Honestly, the only things that could remotely make sense is fleetaway sonic or sonic exe. And that's just the obvious choices we could get something completely different.

As per usual, this installment into There's Something about Knuckles was executed excellently! It's great to see the extent to which the lore of this series and the universes which it involves is developed, and expanded on in the parts that follow. The twist regarding the Kaiju was also pretty well handled, and suffice to say, I probably wouldn't have guessed it initially. Needless to say, I can't wait to see how this plot point unfolds, and how it correlates to the prior There's Something About... Chapter. Until I find out, I'll be waiting excitedly, for whatever you and your team comes up with next, Mashed! Best of luck on this, and your other projects!
Theory time:
The kaiju was originally the creation of this worlds dr eggman, its possible that he was so sick of constantly being kicked to the curb by Sonic that he wanted to focus in making something that would finally defeat the blue blur which led to the kaiju's creation...but the clear issue is that he built such a strong creature that he couldn't even control it, and it turned on him and killed him. It ended up rampaging through his headquarters as sonic and tails arrived...
Like tails said, sonic was swallowed by the creature and used as a power vessel for it...but i doubt the story is 100% true.
Its possible that this is actually "secret histories" tails who came in, murdered and took the place of this worlds tails.
And when they both arrived at eggmans base, its possible that he backstabbed sonic and ended up feeding him to the creature somehow.

I also think that Tails did betray this Sonic, seeing that in the last chapter he literally kicked the other dimension's corpse corpse Sonic while cussing him out, Tails seems to not really care about anyone other than his current target. And it is odd that he knows what actually happened to this version Sonic
My theory for the monster shown in the series is that Dr Eggman likely lured sonic to his castle with the intent on kidnapping him and using some kind of material, perhaps the universe version of the Chaos Crystal to turn him into a superweapon. The scheme might have faced a fatal error in which control of the creature by Eggman is rendered impossible. By the time of its creation, it killed him upon barking out the first command to the creature.
It eventually bursted out of Eggman's fortress as seen in the flashback and eventually set down its target on the city they guarded out of muscle memory and predator instinct.
The Chaos Crystal idea is that at the end of the video, the pupil of the monster looks more like a crystal than a pupil.
The crystal began to reflect at that moment showing sonic inside of the crystal implying that he is imprisoned.
Tails might have said that the team has to kill the monster and with it Sonic because he is aware that he is in a state of stasis inside of the monster but feels that he is beyond the hope of recovery and decides that killing it would be the best option for not just the team but for the survival of the city. However, he didn't want to reveal the truth to them as he knew that the monster posed a threat to the city and every soul in it and didn't want to cause them to hesitate of attacking it out of fear that he would accidentally give them the vain hope of rescuing him and cause the city to be vulnerable.
Pretty sus how tails already knows what the kaiju looked like without looking through the binoculars. He even quickly suggests killing sonic.
Tails was also the last person sonic was with. He would probably be just just crazy tails in disguise trying to groom knuckles into joining him. Knuckles is already on the edge and tails just needs to push him further.

I freaking missed him saying 'What are friends for?' but the moment Knuckles said that Tails was the one to bring back the armor, I knew this was not the right version of Tails

After seeing the "there's something about Amy" series I'm very skeptical about this Tails as we seen he can change his form to look like their Tails and trick them. My theory was that the original Tails was the one who died at that place with the monster and the imposter took the mech and the identity. Since there was no else but Sonic then for all they know that might be what really happened. We've seen how good of a manipulator the imposter is. Even now he could be manipulating Knuckles by feeding ideas to him like he did with Sonic and Amy. And there's even a pattern of killing Sonic in these worlds. He manipulated Amy into killing Sonic and now he's manipulating Knuckles into killing Sonic.
When I heard Tails said “What are friends for.” I know something bad is going happen.
Its possible that tails knows that theres a way to save sonic, but wont reveal it until its too late.

it's ironic that this guy develops characters better than Sega herself
Knuckles in this universe is pretty serious and has a lot of depth in his character, He is actually pretty cool.

This is like what the Archie comics could have been if Ken Penders was capable of actually writing a coherent story and drawing pictures that don't induce migraines in the viewer.
