Vintage Quail Cuckoo

In today's video we're taking a look at this vintage quail cuckoo clock: a clock that has both a cuckoo bird and quail which call out. These are getting hard to find and are slowly increasing in value. Initially I thought this to be 1970's but one of my colleagues thinks it could be as old as 1950's. Is this clock too noisy for you? Nice clock. The cuckoo quail clock is a great addition to any clock collection. I've been a big fan of chiming clocks since I was a baby. I have about 40 of them in my clock collection already, and I plan to collect even more and learn to repair clocks someday, too.

Seth!...Dude!. Finally someone has a clock like mine!. I have a cuckoo like this and could not figure out the pattern and could not find one anywhere. Coincidentally, I, too, paid $100 for it. Mine has an eagle on the top and a bird on either side. Thanks so much. Now I can sleep once again 😎😎😜😜

It has to be at least the 50s. Per the NAWCC when I asked the question when did the German makers quit using count wheels and go to the rack and snails. Their answer was no particular date but by the mid 50s all companies have changed to the rack and snail. This clock has a removeable verge assembly. So I am going to say that it was made late 40s/early 50s. I have a movement like this in my folder that I have it named Steinadler. You might want to research that company. As always love your videos. Keep them up.

How do you determine the size weights you need for your cuckoo clock

Hi, it depends on the age and also how many days the movement is made to run. For example a modern basic 1 day cuckoo usually takes 275 gram weights but an 8 day around 1200g. 1 day cuckoos that have a music train usually 325g. Most vintage & modern 1 day movements are stamped “regula 25” and the 8 day, “regula 34” When we get to antique cuckoos the weights tend to be a little heavier and vary greatly. I hope this helps.
