No bro, Dil Chahta Hai was just another movie that focused heavily on pyar mohabbat and lived happily ever after concept of Bollywood prevailing in those days. ZNMD focused more on life, then came friendship aspect, and love was the least focused aspect in ZNMD. That's why I prefer ZNMD over Dil Chahta Hai. However, both movies were masterpiece.

But the director Farhan said "No. I wrote Sid for you". Farhan was right. Sid was born for Akshaye. In fact, each of them was the right the choice to play their roles. Can't imagine anyone else to replace them. Aaaah, I think I need to rewatch this movie today. I miss their friendships.
