With Amy back the characters have to eventually come full circle. It's great to have Amy back but I hate the character dynamic that they have given her in recent years towards Ste. She's been nothing but a bitch. It's a complete 180 on them both. I know that Ste is gay but I would like to see them bond back together. I would settle for a close friendship again. Ste has shown in his drunkeness though that he can still do it with the ladies so who knows? He could have that gay side to him but his bond with Amy could eventually suprass that

Ste Hay is a bisexual man, canonically; it's been show dozens of times over the years from the character's inception to the present, in what Ste says and does and pursues. He took a while to realise and come to terms with it (iirc he was around 20 years old?), and after a period of experimentation he settled for a time on a strong preference toward men over women, but that doesn't diminish his past relationships with or attraction to females, nor does it preclude him from having a relationship with or being attracted to females going forward. If he wants to identify as gay and never sleep with a woman again, that's fine and valid, but let's not pretend that he's never wanted a female and has never been genuinely attracted to women. Sexuality as we now know is fluid, and can either alter over the course of life due to external influences or gradually blossom due to internal drivers that are unlocked. Think of it like handedness--most people say they're either right (straight) or left (gay) handed as a convenient shorthand, but how many people, if they're really honest, are absolutely strictly single-handed (i.e. doing everything with the one dominant hand)? Most people encounter at least a few tasks in life for which they use the weaker/non-dominant hand more naturally. So it is with sexuality. There are many more bisexuals than are reported, disclosed or acknowledged, because people don't think about bisexuality as something that can emerge from latency (as it did for Ste), or as something that can change and come to the fore like a skill. To refer back to our handedness metaphor--it's like picking up a bowling ball for the first time, and realising you're actually better with your non-writing/typing hand, after one of your friends asks you to try using it for a laugh. Turning back to the main subject: the reason we don't hear or see much of Ste's attraction to women anymore is that the actor Keiron is gay, and due to his popularity & longevity in employment on the show has won a degree of creative control over the character (not actually ideal for a long-running show, but that's the way the industry works, and I guess he's earned it) he pushes for Ste to enter into m/m screen relationships only, presumably so he can be more comfortable and less awkward in his scenes. That's all very well, but it's not good professional continuity, nor is it fair to long-time writers on the show or long-time fans of it, who expect a certain degree of faithfulness to established character traits and allusion to former storylines. This is why it really annoys me that viewers & staff of HO these days usually devalue and erase the Amy/Ste relationship, or try to retcon it as a non-romantic non-sexual one. Yes, it was problematic for several reasons, and yes, it turned out that it wasn't the ideal setup for either character in the end, but at the time it was happening it was real and legit as a bi/straight relationship (it even resulted in a child), and it was a honest depiction of what both characters wanted and were going through. They were an m/f couple in romantic love, who were willingly having sex and enjoying it, and it's all there on the tapes so I don't know why so many fans refuse to accept the established reality--I guess it intrudes on their babygirlified, woobified fandom conception of Ste as an eternal twink who has been Kinsey 6 since birth and has never done anything wrong that was entirely his fault...

I think that Ste is a common favourite, because of how much people can relate to him. He has been through a lot (abusive childhood, struggled with financial problems, domestic abuse, was a abuser, drugs, depression, sexuality changes, losing people he loves ect) but he still carried on, trying to change. I still don't think that Ste was the killer of Amy, as he said, why would he purposely take the life of his kids' mother, just because he and her weren't eye to eye? The blood on Ste's trainers wasn't actually Amy's, and the reason all of this evidence seems to be pointing at Ste is obviously because of a bad history with Amy, and with James doing his very best to take Ste down. I personally, would be very surprised if it was Ste, especially since he is the main suspect currently, aand Hollyoaks always likes to twist things. I guess we can all see whether he is guilty or not, on the fourth of September, but until then, I feel that Ste is innocent.
Ste is a challenging character and quite compelling, because he is so genuinely likeable and tragic and remorseful, but also so flawed and sometimes does things that are difficult or impossible to forgive. On paper and without walking through his journey with him, you'd write him off as a villain instantly, but because we've watched him suffer so much and so unfairly, it's hard to castigate him completely for the awful things he does do. Presumably this is why and how Amy could keep forgiving him.
