Beautiful OAKVILLE - one of the most affluent towns in Canada

  • Oakville, a town in Halton Region, on Lake Ontario in Southern Ontario, Canada, and is part of the Greater Toronto Area.
    Oakville's first industries included shipbuilding, timber shipment, and wheat farming. In the 1850s, there was an economic recession and the foundry, the most important industry in town, was closed. Basket-making became a major industry in the town, and the Grand Trunk Railway was built through it.
    The town eventually became industrialized with the opening of Petro Canada and Shell Canada oil refineries (both now closed), the Procor factory, and, most importantly, the Ford Motor Company's Canadian headquarters and plant, all close to the Canadian National Railway and the Queen Elizabeth Way highway between Toronto and Fort Erie (Buffalo).
    In 1962 the town of Oakville merged with its neighbouring villages to become the new Town of Oakville, reaching northwards to Steeles Avenue in Milton. In 1973, the restructuring of Halton County into Halton Region brought the northern border southwards to just north of Highway 407.

    When I first moved to Ontario back in 2008, I visited a couple of friends in Oakville and instantly felt in Love with this City, it reminded me a lot of where I grew up and I vowed to one Day to be living here, Finally in November 2014 I moved here.
    I LOVE it here, So many options for Everything, it's the "Friendliest" Place I've lived in since I moved to Canada in 2004. Not much of a Night Life, but I think it's because it's more of a Family Community. I Finally Feel more "At Home" for the first time in 10 years in Canada. Looking forward to raising the Kids here and establishing myself here.

    Oakville actually has an economically diverse population (not just a "bunch of rich kids" ) and there are many different homes, townhomes and condos to choose from - not all expensive. Great place to raise a family.

      Oakville is much more expensive than most other places. Dont try to convince me it is not expensive. I just went there and I saw a bunch of mansions. And small townhouses starting at 1.1 million. The closer you get to toronto the more expensive it gets.

    The worst thing about living in Oakville is your 1hour + commute to your day job in Toronto.

    • @julesverne4629
      @julesverne4629 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One Summer Days, from Oakville , ontario, canada, your commute to your day job can be 2 Hours to as much as 2 and 1/2 Hours each way on the Q.E.W. Highway depending on rush hour Highway Traffic. Oakville, ontario, canada is a deep Suburban Town of Oakville with approx. 183,000 People considered The ""Town of Oakville, even by the Mayor and past Mayors of the Town of Oakville""!!

      The above comment commute is from the Town of Oakville to Toronto Q.E.W. High Traffic Hours Conjestion each way, so 2 ways from work and back can reach as high as 5 hours just on the Q.E.W. Highway Summers per day. That is a LOT of Ultra High STRESS per Week , Month, almost impossible to tolerate per annual yearly commute. Consider East Mississauga, each will then be only an average of 20 minutes per day each way or 40 minutes both ways from East Missisauga Cawthra Rd.Q.E.W. HighWay Exit and Entry to Toronto and back from your Jobs in the Huge Colossus City of TORONTO, Ontario,Canada, keep and Highway Q.E.W. People who are commenting negatively about town of Oakville, probably can't even afford a house here, properties are super expensive and one has to love that environment to be able to live and enjoy this small lakefront town. The entire GTA envy of Oakville and Burlington for a reason and you can see why. If you have a good income, steady job, a family with kids, I would say Oakville and Burlington are best place to live in Canandaigua....moreover they both are voted #2 and #3 best places to live in Canada 10 years in a row.

      This is definitely not true. Oakville was once beautiful but you can't go to any of the parks without Muslims everywhere. They litter, they're obnoxious, they have no manners and will push your child off the swing so they can have a turn etc. Oakville is officially turning into Brampton aka Brown town

      scottishthroandthro67 Toronto is a great city. For people who prefer living in large houses, they prefer moving to Oakville which is a suburban town of the Great Toronto Area. If you are young, you would enjoy Dowtown Toronto. If you want to settle down with your family, Oakville is really good. Oakville is connected to downtown by the QEW highway. So you can still easily commute to downtown. 40 min drive. It has every reason for the real estate to be high. Lastly, its a very White place. Some people prefer it to live in White areas.

      halfvolley11 I have family all over Toronto, they Live in Etobcoke, Oakville, Islington, Danforth, Oshawa, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, lots of Scots all over the place, I acyually ended up staying with a cousin in Cambridge, nice area to,

    • @halfvolley11
      @halfvolley11 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      scottishthroandthro67 Good for you. Did you choose Cambridge because of its British origin, called Cambridge? Are you a Cambridge University,graduate or something lol. Bad joke ..
      Cambridge is too far isn't it?
      By the way Islington is in Etobikoke..

    • @MsRobert1967
      @MsRobert1967 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      halfvolley11 It was convienient to stay in Cambridge as my son is the same age as my cousins boy, so it was good for him to hang about with his cousin, yes I know Islington is right next to Etobikoke, I also spent a few days with my Aunt and uncle in Port Colbaine, they have retired down there, nice part of the province,

    • @halfvolley11
      @halfvolley11 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      scottishthroandthro67 no no. buddy Islington is not right next to Etobikoke. Toronto City can be divided into 3 major areas or New York's equivalent of boroughs( ( brooklyn, queens, manhattan, etc) before the amalgamation. Toronto = Toronto itself + Scarborough ( east of Toronto) + North York ( North of Toronto downtown)+ Etobikoke.( West of Toronto downtown)..
      Islington is just the name of a street just like Yonge street or Dundus street.

    Oakville is a pretty nice town, located along the Lake Ontario with beautiful views, festivals all year round, price of properties have a wide range, wealthy neiborhood asides Lakeshore Rd price could be up to $10million, around Bronte harbor you could have a decent house around $600,000 that live comfortably and big size, perfect place for living.

    They go on about affluent, but then they show northern oakville... The part of the town shown in the video is the middle class for oakville at tops. Once you get to southern Oakville, especially southeast, thats where you get houses easily reaching $5,000,000 and up

  • @halfvolley11
    @halfvolley11 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    see home prices depend on many factors, fundamentally on demand vs supply. supply is not an issue here, demand is. Rich people want to live with rich, well off area for facilities, environment, status, etc. But there are benefits as well, Oakville is in South of Milton, Oakville is expensive, why? Oakville is close to Gardiner Express, which takes you downtown Toronto faster than living in Milton does using 401. Most of the richest places in Toronto are in South, North has N York, Bramtpn,etc.

    where do you live? at my school you would be hard pressed finding a group of friends without a few assorted 'ethnic minorities', and my neighbourhood has become like, 60% immigrants since they built a new public school a few years ago. Everybody gets along just fine, racism is foreign to me.

    Everywhere is racist, you can't avoid it really and personally I think Oakville is more discriminating towards youth then anything else. It is extremely expensive to live there though, when you can get houses of the same size or bigger for half the price in surrounding areas.

    Soulless suburban sprawl. A true design tragedy.
    Everything that's wrong with the world is summed up at 3:42. People commuting an hour each way to and from their job, each in their own gas guzzling isolation pod, for the privilege to live in a manufactured landscape that tries to be part urban, part rural... but fails at both.
    This development model is unsustainable. Utterly inefficient use of energy, land and materials.
    Any development that relies on car culture to function reduces quality of life for all living things, including the humans that waste 2 hours of their life every day sitting on their ass surrounded by traffic.
    It may be the norm, but it's insanity. Is this really the life people aspire to live?
