I was rooting for DK at first, but the annoying commentator that popped off every time they hit a button was getting annoying.

You have to realize that DK is a heavy character, one of the slowest in the game. Pikachu is not, one of the faster characters. It takes tremendously more reading for DK to touch pikachu than the other way around. Obviously its balanced a little by the larger amount of percent DK's moves do, but really he's at the disadvantage, pikachu's stun times are way less.
Tien Nguyen yeah because every minute hit or play he did was automatically 10x harder than anything esam had to do. DK vs pikachu it's insane he even stood a chance.

Asdf Gadsg this was the early days of ultimate. Because they remove sheild stun, parries were valued more than they deserved. If the exact same thing happened but more recently, the commentary wouldn’t have been so one sided

It gets balanced because of Pikachu’s combos with a heavy because Pikachu can just keep DK in a combo. But DK does damage and can kill lightweights (Pikachu) early.

Look my guy dk was the underdog by a mile. Pikachu is a lot quicker than dk and could therefore get a lot of those quick combos in and deal 80% damage at once. Insane combos, sure, but Konga's plays were much more satisfying to watch, and definitely hypes up both commentators and the crowd lot more.

Daniel Fajardo tbf pikachu is high S tier and combos like that are seen a lot. A lot of these commentators tire of seeing pros abusing super fast high tier characters combos. Esam has been around for awhile and has pulled that stuff so much. Im sure if Konga keeps coming to tourneys and does the same thing over and over again, commentators will bore of it. And heavy characters are much more satisfying to watch because most are bottom tier. Landing those punches that have such meaning in them is super satisfying. but also, it's like they said. It's Konga's home turf. It would be weird to not cheer for him a little. And parrying with that proficiency is not easy. Especially those double parries.

- The commentators were biased at the most they can about anything that Donkey Kong did, despite that was not a cool, clever or skilled move. If this isn't pretty annoying, "cheerleaders" and "commentators" are synonyms now on Smash community and I am very outdated;
- They were in a TOURNAMENT, both Konga and Esam did they best with the characters they always picked before. Fairly they can. "Abuse super fast high tier characters combo" isn't a bad thing to do in a fighting game tournament for me, too, honestly. Esam did nothing to shame in that play. And this Pikachu isn't broken like "Smash 4 Bayo" or "Melee Fox" (even Pikachu was, whatever, it's a profissional match, dude).
- Yeah, I really enjoy to see Konga countering Esam moves and stuff, this man is really a inspiration for my DK play, that was beautiful, but of us (and the commentators too) agree! This isn't his fault. Neither Esam was wrong. If it isn't satisfying you, welp. Sorry. I just think Smash community flaws to think tournament matches suit to entertain they in priority instead fair and nice competitivity.

Both players played really good but the commentators were way too over excited over DK. No need to be impressed every time someone parries a projectile, especially Pikachu projectiles which are not that fast.
Also I think ESAM played best here, much better read and a much better adaptation to his opponent play.

Why is everyone complaining about that lol. ESAM is a big competitive player so they are just excited to see what new guys like Konga can do. They've seen ESAM's pikachu time and time again so it makes sense
Oh my goodness the commentators were so frustrating to listen to. Every time ESAM got a good hit in they'd just go "oh." and then go quiet, but every Konga smash would be met with screaming and hype. The commentators really don't need to lose their minds every time DK parries a slow moving projectile. It's not hard to do, and it doesn't really do anything besides blocking the attack.
I don't think it's that they're impressed by the parries themselves rather the consistency that Konga could do them under so much pressure.

This commentary is just the smash community in general. People don’t care if your good at the game if you don’t play a low tier or a “sick” character. Yeah Pikachu is arguably the best character in the game and pretty campy when he needs to be, but that doesn’t mean that Esam deserves to be given any less praise than other PGR/ top players.
People have to remember that Konga was the clear underdog here. The matchup really isn’t in DK’s favor, so of course the commentators are going to be biased towards Konga. That being said, there should’ve been a little more recognition for some of the stuff Esam was pulling off here, especially around 18:30, that was nutty.

Deadrocky he did not lose because of the parries, it’s plays a huge roll of not letting your shield getting eaten away and helps have something less to worry about. He was one stock away from winning, it came down to the matchup in the end props to both

ESAM's play is really good, but except for his combo at 18:30 it just felt like what I'd expect from pro-level play. Kong is a serious underdog and watching him win, not by using crazy combos, but perfectly executing his basic bread-and-butter moves is really refreshing for heavy fans

They hardly compliment conga on anything except the flashy stuff. Just because everyone in the comments is jumping on the bandwagon of saying this doesn't mean you need to also.

Anyone ever thought that.. y'know.. it's harder to place with DK overall, for one.. and for two, Konga's 'known' but doesn't necessarily APPEAR often, while ESAM pops up in tourneys far more often, social media, whatever? And has kind of an often-annoying bias to his character?

They didn't yell and get super hype about what he was doing cause most of what he was doing wasn't very flashy but they spent most of the commentary complementing ESAM and saying about how well he's playing and about how swell the last thing he did was. I get that everyone in the comment section is saying this one thing and so you get free likes for this but holy shit if you actually listened to the commentary and counted how much time they spent complimenting each player you'd realise this.

Also, every commentator clearly groaned when ESAM finished that match. Sheesh.

Kongas playstyle is smart. He isn't reckless and he makes great decisions on his moves. You can tell he has great experience with Donkey Kong. I used to main him. So I can see his style and definitely can see his experience with him. Probably the best Donkey Kong. I like Hikaru. But I have to give it up to Konga on having a strong, smart and technical Donkey Kong. 👍
Edit: Like he picks his moves and is patient when dealing with stuff. He knows when to attack and what moves to do. He isn't flow chart. Also his parry game helps Donkey Kong when wanting to get hits in. This is what I got from him on this match.

That was bad commentary by the two for being so biased, but from a fan perspective I believe it's the fact that Donkey King is expected to be bodied by someone like Pikachu. You see it all the time in combo vids, it's poor DK and Pika has all of the tools with his combo potential, excellent recovery, zoning, and keep away. From that alone, I get it, i mean i was rooting for DK, granted he's one of my mains and I really am not a fan combos almost or actually eliminating a full life bar in fighting games which Pika could do. But even then I wouldn't be on Donkey King's Banana so hard unless I was gonna be come a member of the DK Crew
