O Lord, yes! Lovely place to visit, it’s got history, good grub (for all pockets), good pubs, scenery, plus all the usual seaside amenities. Definitely recommend it if you’re in the vicinity.
Whitby is a great a place. I came up here for my birthday several years ago and had a great time. Lovely evening meal in Whitby, cracking dinner at the magpie chip shop and Robin Hoods Bay is a Gem not to far away!
This is the town I was born. The first big lighthouse was actually a beacon for bad weather and nighttime to guide boats in. Later when the 2 extensions were built another 2 beacons were added, red and green lights for port and starboard side again for poor visibility.
The thing on the pier you were wondering about is a capstan. It's for winding in rope, in this case a ship's mooring rope. In the shaped holes would go wooden planks as handles which a number of men would turn to wind up the heavy rope.
Behind the whalebones is the hotel where Bram Stoker stayed when he wrote Dracula. There's a blue plaque on the wall and you can stay in the same room.
They have a goth festival in April and October, and it’s rammed busy with people dressed up, you don’t have to be a goth to go there, it’s just fun music festival but the town goes the extra mile for tourists in those times. The people dressed up in steampunk and goth stuff, they put so much effort into their outfits it’s definitely worth seeing. They have an open air market called the bizarre bazaar, where you can buy stuff you’ll never get anywhere else!
Absolutely Love Whitby & for Me it is the Jewel of the North Yorkshire Coast! The Lighthouse is no longer in Service, the Tower like Constructions on each of the Piers have a Red Light to one & Green Light to the other & serve as Harbour Warning Lights at Night & in Bad Weather!. The lower part to the Pier is used for those Fishing. I'm pleased you made it on to the Beach it's Beautiful! Hope You enjoyed Your Visit & Thank You for making such a Lovely Video.
If you go to Whitby again I'd recommend The Fisherman's Wife on the Khyber Pass for Fish & Chips. Places to visit Sandsend near Whitby or Robin Hood's Bay.💜
Looks beautiful .im going in may for a week .cant wait .i think you have shown a good part of witby .I was wondering about the steps .not so bad as i thought .thankyou so much for showing us around this beautiful place .i came here must be 40 yrs ago .only on day trip .always wanted to come back and look properly .well done you for all that walking about .
Whitby is one of my favourite places. The mixture of people is also great, young and old. There's so much history. I can't remember if the Abbey is National Trust or English Heritage, but it costs to view up close. Dracula tunnel is a must, if you're a fan. And there's a great view of the Abbey and Whitby from Dracula Tunnel. From the tunnel, it's about a 8 mins walk to 6 Royal Crescent, where Bram Stoker used to live. Larpool Viaduct is worst a look, especially if you like photography.
You picked a good time to visit as there weren't millions of day trippers. The benches on the steps to the Abbey were originally there for coffin bearers to have a rest. Papa's is OK (it's a local company to me from Hull), but the Quayside is better (over the bridge, turn right and keep your eye out on the left). Great town, go in Spring and have a shufty at the steam railway!
We have 108 steps here in Macclesfield. I regularly run up them. I’m visiting in a few weeks could be a fun challenge to see if I don’t run out of breath running up them 😅
The wooden structures at each end of the piers are old Lighthouses added when the piers were extended in the early 1900s one painted red & the other pier blue probably so in foggy weather they knew which pier was east and which was west. ????
Super awesome day out in Whitby, I reckon you studied documentary making at university , Camera works great dialogue, great . ✌🏻🧑🏻🦱✌🏻 Yep, that’s your emoji . ☕️☮️🥪 ✌🏻🧑🏻🦱✌🏻
Hi I'm a subscriber to your channel I done a vid in whitby them steps a nightmare and going down them sends me dizzy the seats were to rest coffins on I thought ther was seats it's a love place I went on a boat ride and saw a dolphin great vid by the way I couldn't film properly because my child friend was in the way I enjoy your channel 🙂
Thanks for watching 😀 the steps are quite steep in places! I think I need to go back in the summer and take the boat ride because seeing some dolphins would be so cool!
Nice video, it's a beautiful city. Watch out for the seagulls, they'll dive bomb you, and it's not conventional bombs they're dropping. They're like big web footed pigeons.
Do you think Whitby is worth the visit?
Comment below 😀
Yes definitely

the seaglulls- pound the ground too bring up the worms

The green light house is starboard and the red on the other pier is port. Right ans left in maritime language/terms. Keep on rolling!
The wooden structures at each end of the piers are old Lighthouses added when the piers were extended in the early 1900s one painted red & the other pier blue probably
so in foggy weather they knew which pier was east and which was west. ????
The colours were red & green & the steps down are for fishing. !!!!
I quite liked these piers here, they're pretty different to the usual ones you see at seasides

Also how many chip suppers do you get through in week 🤔 😀
Its definitely worth checking out again.
Its too many to count lol 😂
Omg! You went to Whitby and didn't go the the best Fish n Chip shop in the country. The Magpie cafe is Whitby's most famous cafe .
I think I remember walking past it! I'll have to go back in the summer and try it out then! 😀
No magpies and you was in Whitby criminal 😂 great place Whitby
I will have to go back in the summer!
You bet it is
Is any place worth it ? This is just how you feel on the day. Nothing to do with where you happen to be.
That fish and chip place is no longer there, its now a dirty shit Wendy's
Sorry i think it looks boring
It's cold day in January...the quietest month of the year. What were you expecting ?
@popeyedish That's the best time to visit, in the off season.
@@GaryYork-tk2ow I live in Whitby..there is no "off season"...😆
@popeyedish Sure there is. It's not as busy in March as in July.
Love watching your videos and adventures. Hope you're good.
I'm good 😀 hope you are too. Glad you enjoy them 😀
Worst fish n chips in whitby chap and i'm local.
😮 I think I need to go back and try the Magpie as quite a few people have mentioned its the best
Those fish and chips looked really nice, what's wrong with them?
Looks great to me..rather go there than the Magpie
