    Thanks Tomo - Level 1 reminds me of Marvin Gaye song "Whats Going On " which uses progression 1-6-2-5 .
    Level 2 uses similar chords progression in song "Sunny"
    In LEVEL 3 where you use E7 b9 normally you would use Emin7 where "D" note would be the 7 (D is also 5th of G so that works!) but in E7b9 the note "F" would be the flat 9 so this also works because F is the 7th of Gmajor! Interesting unless there is more theory to the E7b9 that would be great to know!

      I have actually been doing those fingering exercises in that video faithfully for several months, and have definitely seen improvement from it, but unfortunately there is no discussion in it of working on barring strings though, things like an A major barre chord, barring with the index is no problem, but barring the 3 other strings with my ring finger is impossible unless I push down on it with another finger.

      No shapes. Music, understand with the theory. Theory itself nothing. Just information that anyone can get it. But how to understand that concept deeply with music. That's why you need triads & ear training without any PDFs or any diagrams. You can use numbers like this.

    Once you leave the straight major but are still anchored in it do you consider the outside notes to basically just make it "modal"?

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know exactly what you mean but basally I play very basic chords & add a little outside of diatonic chords. (tensions & chromatic approach)

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use "mode" to play chords too. For example. Use a C Dorian = C D Eb F G A Bb C (b3 & b7 are different from Ionian scale) then vice all 4th top on that... first chord is C F Bb Eb (from 5432 set string) then next chord is D G C F... you can write them on paper first then you can study! C Dorian 4th chords! That's modal!

    • @SimpleManGuitars1973
      @SimpleManGuitars1973 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TomoFujitaMusic Yeah like when you use the E dominant 7 instead of the minor so then you've added a Flat 2 or like if you played an A dominant 7 and that would add a Flat 5 so then if soloing would that open you up to using modes to cover the "outside" notes? I take the same approach as you do when it comes to just playing the chords basically and then adding spices by using outside notes somewhat sparingly. I was just curious if the outside notes were what you used to incorporate modes into your solos.
