Totally excellent. I so appreciate the amount of time and careful attention given to the meaning of the original Greek by comparing this work to Anaximander's contemporaries and the careful attention to trying to determine their understanding at that particular time. Love the part about space and time and how space didn't work with Thales' conception of water as the first principle. Very meaningful.

Brilliant resuscitation of not just Anaximander's religious and intellectual background, but also the ancient Greek intellectual achievement. The ancient Greeks drew on the accumulated wisdom and scientific discoveries of the Egyptians, the Babylonians, the people of the Levant, the kingdoms of Asia Minor, and the people of Crete and Etruria... The ancient Greeks also valued their OWN determinations and ideas, and they created something, a worldview, a way of investigating the Universe, that the modern world is still appreciating today. Excellent lecture! Well done!

Really appreciate these lectures, Anaximander is a favorite of mine currently. So many leads to other academics' works on Anaximander. Thankyou.

excellent, elucidating. i do think heidegger's forays into these areas may, in some ways, offer certain kinds of insights. thank you!

Excellent. I just wish the Persian / Mesopotamian influence had been addressed. The argument was exclusively Greek-centric. e.g. Thales on the origin of life in water and the fish men is mirrored in Mesopotamia. Or cross overs between not only the origin myths of Hesiod but of Mesopotamia and thus the Hebrew Bible. i.e. how did Persian Achaemenid rule, under which he lived, define his ideas as well.
