Because even though they show it's the release day for "Cosmic Wars", the character's reactions are more like the later outrage the Prequels garnered, rather than how people reacted when Phantom was released, which was actually pretty positives, like a blind love for the franchise.
The Simpsons tends to alternate between referencing something real and doing a parody of it at times, including with the same thing; Star Wars and Cosmic Wars, Pokémon and Peekiemon (GET), Apple and Mapple and many others all coexist within the Simpsons Universe. It could depend on what kind of reference they're doing or how much is used that decides on whether they're allowed to use the actual thing or they have to use the parody (I feel I heard some explanation before), but it could also just be on what the writers feel works better for the joke and/or storyline - like using Cosmic Wars here allows them to make fun of Star Wars, but still make stuff up and have fun rather than have to limit itself to things that actually happen in Star Wars.

I won't shy away from saying that I like the Prequels. That being said, just because I like the Prequels, doesn't mean I have zero problems with them. As someone who likes this trilogy, I still think this clip is funny.
What's actually funny is that plenty of people at my college liked the prequels, with lots who hate them of course. I watched a bit of Phantom Menace at Sam's Club, but only the good parts with the space battles and Darth Maul.

As for the first one, they normally leave that out on TV shows, I guess for pacing reasons. But with that said, I thought for the longest time they only showed ads at the cinema in Australia until I watched TJ Kirk's video where he complains about exactly that.

I won't shy away from saying that I like the Prequels. That being said, just because I like the Prequels, doesn't mean I have zero problems with them. As someone who likes this trilogy, I still think this clip is funny.
What's actually funny is that plenty of people at my college liked the prequels, with lots who hate them of course. I watched a bit of Phantom Menace at Sam's Club, but only the good parts with the space battles and Darth Maul.

Casimir I had a friend who went to see Attack of the Clones back in 2002 and saw a fat dude who was extremely excited for this movie yelling “STAR WARS!”. Halfway through the movie, he felt asleep. My friend was laughing his ass off and almost forgotten about the movie itself. True story.

It always bothered me that:
1) There were absolutely no previews, ads, or "silence your phone" PSAs before the movie
2) Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Luigi are talking very loudly in the theater and nobody seems to care
3) Who poses for a pizza box photo inside a movie theater while a movie is playing?
As for the first one, they normally leave that out on TV shows, I guess for pacing reasons. But with that said, I thought for the longest time they only showed ads at the cinema in Australia until I watched TJ Kirk's video where he complains about exactly that.
