I have been the biggest supporter of Nebraska Women's Volleyball since about 1993. I cannot support this team anymore after the Star Spangled Banner episode. Mocking your fans and having the gall to say they have no right to say Stand Up for our National Anthem,but,the Maryland players have the right to bring shame upon our National Anthem??? Are you EFFING kidding me??? My God!! I am done with Nebraska Volleyball FOREVER!! Maybe all of Nebraska Athletics,being that Trev Albert's was in on the apologizing,crying BS too. A DISGRACE!!! I will NEVER EVER accept disrespect for our Flag or National Anthem. This former Airborne Infantryman will find better things to do with my life then watch activists hijacking sports and INSULTING the fan base that helped put them where they are!!! Sad day in this country.
The "fan" in the audience yelled out that the Maryland players were trash. The Maryland players didn't scream at the audience calling them trash for standing.
Should players be allowed to kneel during the national anthem? Yes, it is their right to free speech; although I do worry it is more about personal attention than bringing attention to a cause at this point. However, if players are allowed their right to make a political statement at a sporting event, then the fans are allowed theirs as well. It goes both ways. If you're going to shout your ideas, you better be prepared to listen when the opposition shouts theirs back at you.

It’s not “constructive criticism”. It’s not criticism at all. It’s just demeaning and rude. There are Nebraska players who believe it is disrespectful to kneel during the National Anthem. There are Maryland players who are taking a knee for a cause they believe in. I’m thankful the Nebraska and Maryland players are mature enough to have a conversation about their differences on their time and in a respectful manner, without some jerk from the stands interjecting.
If maryland wants to kneel during the National Anthem, then they should be forced to play the game on their knees. Respect our country or go back to Venezuela.
