The risk is that Japan has a blue water navy and the Philippines doesn’t! So in case of conflict Japan can stand on its own and Philippines will literally drag the US to fight for them! Because of incompetence in the modernization of its military!
If the battle happens in wps we drag US but if the battle happens in Taiwan US will drag the philippines ,unless US refuse to Help Taiwan.
It is the same in the Philippines China is going to Davao to exert their influence because they don't seems tp get what they want in Malacanang
