The issue is that it tries to capture an entire (short) life of important events - even though it's a great movie no one can capture all of it within the time of 1 single movie, it should have been 2-3 movies imo.
@@herz4217 my only wish for this movie was that it should've been made in it's first intended time with Val Kilmer leading as Alexander after the doors.. He would've elevated it and the connection to Alexander made in the doors would've made sense.. He's light years better than colin and I see his alexander in my head as flawless (he also had better ideas about the history of the character and the wigs).. Would've made a huge difference
One flaw of this film is, despite Kilmer's fine acting, that it doesn't capture how Phillip of Macedon was the man that made Macedonia great and was truly a political and military genius. Instead it portrays him as a loud-mouthed drunkard , which he no doubt was WHEN drunk, but he was a indeed a great man outside of that, something this film fails to convey.
We didn’t really get that because we had to get him out of the way quick so that Alexander’s story was told. He wasn’t even in his prime at that point. As a child, Alexander was worried about his father’s pace, because he’d leave no country unconquered for him the way he was going. We’d need a full movie about him to capture everything that was great about him and what Alexander got.
What a masterpiece!! It is one of my favourite movies since I was 12. Something about the cast, the editing, the score, the way it was made, it’s just magic. You either feel the magnitude of this movie or you just don’t. Thank you Oliver Stone for making this incredible story come to life in such a breathtaking epic way 🥰 I will forever be grateful
Ptolemy as Anthnoy hopkins Alexander as Colin Farrell Olympias as Angelina Jolie King Philip of Macedon as Val Kilmer Ptolemy as Eliot Cowan Hephaestus as Jared Leto Aristotle as Christopher Plummer Cleitus as Gary Stretch Cassander as Jonathan Rhys Meyers AND Roxanne as Rosario Dawson We Love you ALL!! I love my story Alexander in Egypt.
Regardless is a good film or not, we gotta admit THERE ARE NO FILMS WITH SO MUCH HARD WORK AND LOVE IN THEIR MAKING. P.S. Val Kilmer deserved supporting actor nominations for his role.
Aléxandros Hispanikós Seeing the battles, especially Gaugamela, I feel like Stone REALLY wanted to make those scenes, but if he got the budget, he had to make the entire movie around them.
@@МакедонскаАвангарда There is no doubt that the Macedonians were at least partially of Hellenic origin, if at least the Argive ruling class, from which Aléxandros descended. How else could he have claimed descent from Herakles?
@@iberius9937 The term ''nation'' or ''national identity'' is coming from or appears in the middle age, so, you cannot claim Herakle as modern greek, or the term ancient macedonia or hellada as nations. Its that simple, cultural differences yes but different entities as a modern nation, no.
After knowing that val was meant to play alexander since the doors.. I keep imagining how it would've been.. He would've elevated the movie so much and he did tremendous research on the characters

I don't know why this movie didn't work! The cast, the story, the scale.. Hollywood is a criminal for not seeing it

Ultimate cut works
@@sarashaker6147 Wow, I couldn't disagree more. Val was meant to play Phillip and he was superb. So was Colin.
But it wasn't that unsuccessful but yeah it really deserves more respect

It's not a flaw of the movie cuz u know it's not practical to throw every bit of history in to a one movie and it's about ALEXANDER

4:26 Sounds like Val is trying to outdo Colin’s Irish accent.
Val Kilmer IS Philip.
You have the best channel icon that I've seen.
He plays him well, yes. But the script failed to show his greatness....from where Alexander got HIS greatness.
Aléxandros Hispanikós Seeing the battles, especially Gaugamela, I feel like Stone REALLY wanted to make those scenes, but if he got the budget, he had to make the entire movie around them.
No dislikes. Hopefully it stays that way.
There's one now and it's me ..............from INDIA
2 People were cut down by Alexander...
Here is one, Macedonia is not of hellenstic origin than, and neighter is now. Macedonia to the Macedonians!

No she was born in Greek (Olympias)
