Thanks for posting! I posted video of this exact same engine making noise at the Middlefield OH steam show in 2015. Great to see that it's in good hands. Video is "Big Le Roi V8 Generator", but my camera's microphone couldn't handle it. Generator S/N ends in ...8919-E.
She may be outdated and use an Exxon Valdez worth of fuel but in reliability and character she probably puts em all to shame. The sound is just monstrous, like if you took a Harley V twin and made it into a V8.
540 cu inches of gasoline engine history from about 1952-53.She can make a gallon of gas disappear in about 12-15 min. Hooked to that 50,000 watt 480 volt 3 phase generator at full load ,gas would disappear even faster !...1200 RPM is the operating speed...the generator behind the Big one is the exciter generator.Neither generator works now.Plans are to get both working and attach to a steady test load so you can hear her really bark through those 2" pipes.
Cool........it's got a nice bark to it........Is the block between the carb and Rad, on the intake area a mechanical governor ??? Must have something to keep the revs set just right...Clayton A
The Governor is a Zenith Mechanical ,Vacuum operation.Notice the water jacket exhaust manifolds to warm the engine quickly the TOP side of the heads.She also sports an X intake manifold w/an Ensign 2 barrel Carburetor w/1 & 3/4 barrels
