Coming to Leafbranch on free asset day is becoming a routine. I'll never be ungrateful of free stuff but it feels like it's getting more and more for only very specific use cases. The modular sets aren't too bad for rapid prototyping though. It also must be time for another cathedral. Maybe next month and then I can finally make a cathedral out of cathedrals.
Great points. Personally, I'd love to see mannequin compatible animations & definitely particle effects! Don't want to sound unappreciative as well but this month's assets are not my favorite.
It is of course natural that some months will be more needed by some than others. Animations are a great call! Would love to see more of that for sure!
You are so right. Since they are all free and we cant complain much. I do believe that alot of content now is mostly repeated. There is almost always a "Mediterranean Environment" and "Stylized Forest" . My suggestion is that we rarely get an "Animation Pack" or "VFX Pack" perhaps instead of having always 3 Environments and 2 Random stuff like BP and Plugins. we get a category each.
I really appreciate your deep dive into the free assets each month and that Epic provides these assets. I personally would love to see more characters, animations, and particle effects. Stuff like Junnicho Suko's animated realistic animals, medieval characters or knights to go with all the medieval environments they keep giving us, fantasy or sci-fi creatures, etc.
I love that they give us free assets every month, but you are right. Some of the assets, particularly the completed projects and some blueprints, are mostly unuseful, particularly when they aren't built to be very flexible and scalable. Even then, the creators themselves hardly explain how to use the blueprint asset. I would love more animation packs and characters.
Always happy to hear your opinions on the assets, but in general I think we get a lot of static mesh packs + environments for 3-4 of them, and usually at least 1 is some kind of (often poorly programmed) system usually in blueprint. Very infrequently do we ever see things like water assets, environmental assets, good Niagara systems, or engine plugins. Can't remember the last time there was an engine plugin, actually...maybe never in the past 3 years.
Thank you for the feedback! I have some similar observations concerning the assets. More Niagara effects would be lovely, you can always make use of more effects.
As a learning developer, i think environmental assets are always useful to have. I'm cautious towards marketplace blueprints, mostly because I worry that won't learn anything using someone else's code or get something that only kind of works that i then have to reverse engineering how it works.
I think you will find many blueprint assets are pretty good for dissecting if you want to learn how something works. Especially if it is something you had no idea how to approach at all. Even if the solution is bad, you get som incling on how you could do it. Thanks for the feedback!
I'm a fan of the larger asset packs. As far as plugins, blueprint projects, and other coded systems, they seem to either be poorly made, too basic, or generally stop all updates after their free month.
The Top Down Turn Based template is good on it's own and if you want to expand on EXISTING systems. But if you are beginner or even intermediate with blueprints forget about expanding it in any serious way. There is so many interconnected systems, it is insane. It is a similar story to other templates from the author. Good if you want to have fun. Nightmare to expand because they are usually massive.
i would never use the environmental assets for any final project but I've used them as placeholders or for one offs when making silly things with my friends. The plugins and templates have been great for me to just look under the hood, pull apart, etc. as exercises if I ever need to do something similar. For this month's template, now I have a reference on how to make a queue system and see what makes sense for my projects or how I would approach it knowing what works (what did they use to determine order, etc.)
Thanks for the video - always appreciated! As for the assets we're given - I generally don't have a problem with the freebies they give out, it's free after all! If you want something specific, then get paid for content. Plus having random things every month gives me new ideas all the time, and I sometimes start a whole new project just because I've now got a free asset pack that has spawned a fresh idea in my head. I just wish they wouldn't include assets that are "demo's" or a "lite" version of a "pro" asset in the hopes that you'll like the free version and then go out and buy the pro version. If that's what the author is looking for, then their free version should just be always free and not a part of the free for the month assets.
Valid points. Lite versions just feels like a wasted spot for something else, and a tease rather than a usuable asset. Good point that randomness generates opportunity for inspiration!
I would like an asset that helps build a GUI like different buttons designs, fonts, and being able to read an in-game manual with hyperlinks to other pages.
I find environmental assets very useful, I generally don't like plugins or complete blueprint systems. Animations are very rare , but I would love to have them more frequently.
Without a question I would definitely appreciate some VFX which we havent had any for a while (ive only been getting them for a couple months idk if they handed them before). In my case I'd like simple slash vfx, maybe punch vfx and so on. Nothing too complex because making it complex would make it too niche, its better if its many small ones that I can put together as I prefer.
I suggest Mr. Leaf ,whatever free or easy to grab packs or contents we get every month, can you polish and make a advance tutorial please { use some other packs if needed } ? like you do with other stuffs. once or twice a month also work for us..... thanks
Just to add on to your issue with the asset packs comment, is that they lack cohesion, at least in my opinion. For example, I think the Low Poly Nature pack looks cool and would love to try it out or use it but, I would need similarly stylized characters, vehicles, props, etc. to at least to try and make something out of it. As I've been trying to progress in creating games, there's a lack of cohesive, fully put together asset packs where everything is there and the only thing lacking is my imagination. And this generally applies to all Free For The Month modules, you get like 10% of what you actually need to make something non-basic.
Please can you make tomb raider style wepon switching... Like you find it on ground..... And take it then when you press 1,2,3,4 you change wepon from four.... Please... And amo system for guns.... Please
Even though I don't have a tutorial on all of that together, I have taught all of the different parts in different tutorials. Or, if you really want to go for advanced tutorials, you can do my free Create an RPG course.

We do need more cathedrals, I can not disagree! Those are all fair and good points! Thank you for the support!
I would love to see more animations.
Animations would be nice for sure!

Never thought I'd be entertained to watch monthly free assets overview. Great job.
Thank you, appreciate it!

Animation and characters, both solid examples of things I would also appreciate to see more of. :)

That is an interesting trend I had not paid attention to. That is quite troubling if so.

Made similar observations. You are pretty locked in for the most part.
Turn-Based Strategy RPG Template looks really tasty. When I finish my current game, I'll probably look into this system more closely.
Hope you find it useful!

Why not use environmental assets?
Thanks for the video - always appreciated!

UI related asset. Not a bad suggestion for sure!

Cool to hear your perspective on what you would like to see! I do agree that animations are more rare than I would like to see as well!
A solid blueprint pack here and there would be awesome for a beginner like me , but i take what i can get lol
Free is always welcome. :)
I would love the blueprints, plugins and animations pack
Animations are more rare than I would like them to be, I am in total agreement there!

Could you elaborate what you mean?

And anything that is multiplayer replicated is good to go
Sure, multiplayer is something that is useful for some!
more animation god more polish VFX
These are both good suggestions!
I can't download anything of it.Failed to challenge captha,please try again...all the time.Somehow?
If the launcher is not working, try the website. Otherwise try restarting or trying later.

Mic sounds like its clipping in spots?
Yup
Dude, terrible sound. A bit of equalizer would be great
Exageration of reality does not yield results.
