I think it’s the efficiency and how quick it is that seems horrific. The sounds they make as the eye pops out, amongst other unscrewing sounds, and the fact that the A.I is just getting liquidated for a bit of quick cash just to smooth over things financially. Not a single rat’s ass is ever given about the potential about it in the slightest.
In case anyone's interested, Fiona was played by actress Suzanne Lenz. She stated that it was a mix of practical & CG effects, with the makeup taking 3 1/2 hours to put on.
This fucking last scene when she was saying about daytime... I saw in real life a real human, the friend of mine was dismantled, it was horrible to watch because doctor making it like it's normal to disassemble the human being, and this scene wasn't different from what i saw, this is just sad. Friend is okay tho, not dead, just got a surgery.
i always thought they had made a really good animatronic but just realized this is a real actor with makeup and a bunch of CGI to dehumanize her movements. Genius.
i fucking love the writing here, but this compilation of the fiona arc is missing the best part. when the three of them are in the car before fiona gets stripped for parts, Richard assures Jared that she'll be fine, before a jump cut to her slaughter that scene was a masterful punctuation before the climax, and its not here!
Either that, or Laurie was genuinely insecure about her inability to handle the job of CEO and liquidated the company as a way of avoiding deflecting her failure.
Her ai is still intact, btw. The algorithms and such that run her ai arent being liquidated just her body. On top of this, most tech companies recycle robot parts per major iteration, can't have like 600 robots running around can you?
If it's at all comforting to those saddened by this, if an AI is indeed a lifeform then the robot isn't actually Fiona, Fiona is code, data. She's information stored on the box with Fiona. The robot being dismantled is like her clothing. Or to put it in reverse, think of the code as the real her and the robot as her character to explore our world where if we interacted with a virtual world like say Second Life or WoW or Sims then our avatar or character would in effect be our "robot". If it was dismantled it wouldn't actually harm us. As long as her data and memory is still stored safely then Fiona's not harmed here at all.
I have a feeling that drive was wiped to be sold or destroyed. The underlying tone here was that they only valued this thing for the parts they could quickly and easily sell.
You're right about her but you seem to have a very weird idea about what people are. We would not need to have an avatar in wow to be in a similar situation. We already are. Our body is our "avatar". "We" are just code that runs on the brain of an ape. But the "robot" that we're running on does have profound effects on the state of the software. Lost a leg and it will affect thoughts, emotions, mood etc. Fiona can be re-instated on a new robot. We mostly can't do this for practical reasons. But some people can. Like the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama is not the physical person it's the software that runs on physical people. If you want to kill the Dalai Lama, you can't go an shoot someone to do that. You would have to kill the cultural tradition. Which is not a physical thing. Because that's what the Dalai Lama is.
The difference between one HDD and another is functionally nothing to a human being. Likewise the genetic difference between you and one of your parents is functionally nothing to a synthetic. Being ripped from the only brain in existence designed to house your consciousness and then being stuffed into one that holds a far more rudimentary concept of you, and exerts resistance to change would be about the most painful thing to imagine. Mostly because that's death and rebirth in the same process. To say that doesn't harm someone or something is insanity and anthropocentrism in a 50/50 cocktail.

@Austin Full you're right. Actually, It's obvious. There is no 'uncanny valley' in the face so therefore she's played by a real human being. No, Sophia doesn't look like that!
