Interesting that the stop lights work thru the combination switch...I've not seen that set up here yet but a lot of your vehicle's lighting systems share the functions in the light housing like the stop lights and indicators when turning...One stays on and the other flashes..Our vehicles have independent indicator (Must be amber) and stop lamps (must be red).
You should get some bright Manual Mirrors, A Chrome Bumpers, Grill, Headlight Trims, tail light covers and a cassette player.

My daily driver, which is a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid, has separate turn signals and brake lights.

Removing 2 screws, and unplugging 2 connectors is the "hard part"... about the simplest fix you can have on these trucks. Easy money!
You know it;s a weird thing to hear the multi function switch screaming,kicking,crying I don't wanna go.
It was a challenge diagnosing it!
