If you did not know, the reason Grisha let Rod Reiss live while killing the royals was so that he can raise Historia leading up to the moment where Eren holds her hand and sees everything.

It was more to prove Historia's royal bloodline because if Rod had died there, no one would ever know or believe she was, it would be meaningless. And of course, once Rod is gone, she'd take the crown and things would lead up to Eren kissing her hand and unlocking the memories.

it's not clear in the season 1 anime but chapter 1 of the manga page 40 you can clearly see grisha looking in front of him so the foreshadow was in chapter 1

I actually like how the art style in a metaphysical sense reflects the development of the story - the WIT scene looks much more shonen-y and bright, almost naive, like what the first impression of AOT was the time it aired, and then there's the MAPPA counterpart - desatured, more mature, but jaded, and cold, showing how far the downward spiral Eren went on is.
But Mappa's character models are so ugly and inconsistent. Like srsly they don't have models that poor for their other anime why does AoT get short end of the stick.

Remember guys, this is just a travel into memory lane, not time traveling. Both Zeke and Eren are looking at young Eren's POV, while Eren is looking at both young Eren and Grisha's POV because of the Attack Titan. So WIT studio still counts, because we aren't looking at Grosha's POV at that time, but on Eren's.
Yess.. a lot of people are getting confused and mistakenly thinking that Eren is time traveling in the past and manipulating the future.
Also in the manga, Grisha is looking straight at Eren like in S4. In the anime they changed that idk but in the manga it was exactly like in MAPPA.

Just look at Demon Slayer, the company focused all their assets on it and its probably one of the most visually pleasing anime in decades. Its just weird how MAPPA nailed Jujutsu Kaisen's artstyle but had polarizing feedback from audience with AOT.

i remember when i read this scene in the manga, and i went back to the very first volume to check if grisha really was looking somewhere else, and he was, and i was just amazed by how far ahead isayama had planned ahead
For everyone saying mappa new stuff version looks better and fits, Mappa asked wit studio for all the backrounds they used, that's why both scenes look so similar plus mappa had been using wit studios textures for past two seasons of aot.

This is so cool, it's interesting to see the subtle differences in the art styles between the two animation studios. In my opinion, MAPPA definitely is more gritty while WIT gives off more of this fantastical type of feeling. Both suit their respective seasons quite well.
That’s what I think a lot of people are missing. The last two seasons main focuses aren’t on fight scenes, it’s on dialogue and story progression. As an anime only the shift in tone between s3 and s4 was crazy. The animation only helped to solidify it

0:50 that's just awesome , in season 1's scene grisha's face has not being shown because in season 4's same scene we can clearly see that grisha was actually telling those line to the adult eren.
If you read the manga you'll notice the manga has grisha's eye blacked out.

I suppose it’s quite hard to enforce the first episode to allow for things such as this, especially since Isayama was not up to this point in the manga yet, so he likely wasn’t too sure how he wanted the characters and camera positioned.
In chapter 1 of the manga Isayama clearly drew Grisha looking away to something ‘off-screen’. Chapter 1 was released exactly 10 years before chapter 121, so Isayama knew what he was doing a decade before it was revealed.

I disagree , you can't say Mappas art style is superior as if it has more quality, they are two very different art styles with different qualities for different aspects. Mappa has this shadowing around the eyes that looks so out of place, when you look closely at it doesn't blend into the art, have you seen when eren was sailing away from his home when the titans broke the wall did, you see the detail on his face ,that is art , when he says he will kill every last titan, as he is crying., wit surpasses mappa in most ways....
Or when eren forces that stump of wood into himself , so he can find motive to transform and fight Annie.

I love how the same scene brings so much contrast. Wit studio's version has a more lighter tone, visually, as the story is just about to unfold, and Mappa's version is revisiting the scene, with a more darker tone, because Eren himself is the cause of what happened, and Eren would make sure his dad gets where he needs to get to, in order for him to get where he needs to get to.

The fact that in the 1st chapter of the manga, when Grisha took out the key to show it to Eren, he was really looking to the side of the door, frightens me.
I personally like MAPPA's style more. The attention to the character's facial details are there, and it looks more mature/darker to match the path that this story took.

It's so surprising and amazing the fact that the only really noticeable change in scenes is the presence of Eren and Zeke, how faithfully Mappa remade the scenes
Mappa added more detail to character models in this scene. Seeing scenes from Season 1 without those WIT outlines is surreal and also pretty cool.
One thing I dislike is how Isayama portrays shadows. Yes Mappa does stick to the manga style which is respectable, but I kind of think WIT had the right idea to ditch the shadows entirely. No matter how many times it appears it's always distracting to me, seeing it contrasted here is even worse.
But aside from that, Mappa's been doing an absolutely amazing job this season. Even the CGI has improved substantially.
It’s been 8 years and the quality now is even worse than before. I feel very disappointed for Mappa.
I like the shadows Isayama drew because they represent the darkness of this story.

The Wit studio animation is so flawless. The only issue with Mappa is the titan is cgi made, other than that they kill it for the final season.

I always wonder how these later seasons would look like had WIT still continued animating. Because as much as I like Mappa, they don't do fighting scenes as good as WIT. Even rewatching Season One, WIT absolutely nails the epicness of AOT.

@@iura_nagami WIT also had limited time, espcially for season 3. That's the reason they had to leave the IP. You noticed over time then production got worst? Nothing was topping the consistency of Season one. Had the production comittee give more time, WIT Studios would have never left the projects and we would have gotten some pretty insane animation with less staff being burned out. The animators at Mappa are absolutely being slaved away.

It breaks my heart everytime i realize that such a WIT is not completing such a masterpiece ..
I like the slight differences in subtitles and colours; both characters remember things ever so slightly differently yet it's essentially the same. Even if it's just a matter of different animation teams or people writing subtitles, the fallibility of memory is a nice dimension to the moment.
I hate to break it to you but people who do translations tend to be not the people related to the show or thing at all. They tend to me like you and me who just find out what the translations are and then distribute it out so that way it'll be easier for everybody it's not that deeper

I miss studios Wit so much. Mappa is doing a good job but it just feels out of place to not end the show with the studio that brought AOT to life. It feels out of place to have 1 studio work on the project 3/4 of the journey, then have them drop the show in the last season because of a short greedy schedule. WITs color, art style, bold lines, polish, shiny gloss and cinematography made AOT unique form other anime. Mappa however uses the same techniques they use in other project they are working on.
True but you can blame the AOT committee who wanted to push for it within the crazy deadline. Had they been more patient and allowed for people to just swallow delays, we could've gotten WIT season 4. That said, I'm ok with what we got

I like subtle dialogue changes. In my head canon it’s because memories aren’t absolute and you don’t remember everything exactly the same.
It might be different, but there's meaning to that. The wit studio scene took place when the audience didn't know anything about the world and titans and stuff. However in mappas version, eren and zeke are seeing the past after we get to know everything, hence there's a darker tone.

I think WIT did a really well job with season 1 to 3 because the storyline didnt dark as the last season. The final season is well fitted with MAPPA's art style so I really appreciated 2 studios
Os traços do estúdio Wit são mais limpos e menos detalhados. Quem lê o manga sabe que Isayama tem traços muito mais rabiscados e expressões muito mais sinistras, as vezes, sombrias. Acredito que o estúdio Mappa faça mais parecido. Basta assistir o episódio e ver as diversas expressões de desespero do Grisha, no manga, é claro, são ainda mais tenebrosas, mas ainda sim, o Mappa fez muito bem. Acredito que os personagens humanos são mais parecidos nos traços do Mappa, e os titãs, ficaram mais bem feito no 2D clássico do Wit.
O traço do isayama no começo é uma merda, por isso a Wit teve q inventar um traço novo
Opa, BR na área. Sim, cara o nível de detalhe é incrível. Principalmente a cara do Eren bravo. Tô muito feliz de ambos os estúdios entregarem uma qualidade que o anime merece, cada um com suas especificidades.
Rewatching AoT from first episode recently, & kept me thinking how heart breaking Grisha must've felt the entire time up to when he forced young Eren to consume him knowing bits of the terrible future that lies ahead, all while he couldn't consult nor reveal to anyone

Went back to chapter 1 of the manga and grisha's expression holding the key wasn't detailed so showing it fully with him looking at older eren lines up
He didint see eren he saw him self from eren future momeres
Hajime Isayama said in an interview that he didnt know how to continue the story at the start, so probably a retcon

Grisa knowing the future(Eren's memories) made him capable of seeing Eren in that moment of his life, at the moment he is seeing what Zeke is showing him. It's super complex in a scientific way and at the same time so understandable.
