Ive been half ass building, just buying stripped lowers and complete uppers and throwing it together, but I want to get into assembling the upper as well. Wasn't as hard as I thought.
@@veandreyahuda5333 not at all brotha the lower is quite simple once you put one together you'll be putting another together shortly after. Atleast that was the case with me. I did use roll pin wizard from two two three innovations and made the install a breeze. With the upper you have to get the barrel screwed in and torqued to spec, get the gas block and tube in correctly, get the forward assist in without damaging the upper itself, ive had factory new guns with the damaged forward assist pin hole. The bcg and charging handle just go with reputable companies and you should be good. Anyway ive just started buying parts little by little to eventually put together my first upper.
I wouldnt really use blue loctite on the gas block. It heats up pretty quickly. You might need to use a set screw. And then stake that. Loctite is affected by heat and the gas block is the hottest part.
That glass block is cool; however, I recommend something that you can adjust without tools when you cake it up and need more gas to avoid failure to eject/load.
I actually feel confident on building a upper part by part , but one thing is how come some people leave out a small part of the gas tube stinking out and yours is aline to the screw
Is the torque spec for dry or lubed? Because you need to modify the torque if it's spec for dry or else you can easily overtorque. 65 ft lbs with lube is closer to 80-100 dry
Like adjusting the gas block? That means you control how much gas pressure the system receives. You need to do this so your gun is not over or under gassed.
If Im building a left handed upper..with the shells exiting on the left side, do I need a specific type of barrel for left side gas ? Thx for putting this together
I noticed that you didn't dimple the barrel for your gas block retaining screws. Have you ever had a problem with the gas block moving after firing your rifle?
Hey, just throwing it out there, anything you put on threads that has a lubricating factor throws off your torque specs, from an engineering stand point, I’m sure it’s fine and i see your reasoning behind using grease. But it does nullify your torque value.
Great video. Just finishing my kit and the dust cover won't stay shut. I've tried a second one with the same issue. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Looking at building my first AR soon. (Own a prebuilt one now, want to build my next). Anyway, maybe it was just too fast and I missed it but how do I know the gas block is over the gas hole in the barrel? Also, does the Gas tube have a certain depth it goes back into the reciever? Or is it able to be moved so you can get the block over the hole properly. Thanks.
Hello, could you please help me with something? My castle nut, which is not staked, came loose at the range, as soon as that happened the gun would not fire, it would click, but not fire. Is this normal given the circumstances? I understand the weapon should not be fired with a loose castle nut, what I am trying to figure out is if there is a deeper issue, or will a loose castle nut causse the weapon to not fire.
I absolutely hate the roll pin on the gas block. It's so awkwardly shaped, I had to duct tape mine to a table with a spacer under the lip so the pin can be hammered in at a level angle.
Watch wet torquing things that aren’t specified that way, the hydraulic forces are multiplying your torque, does it really matter here idk, just something to be aware of
You cannot actually. It is not a commercially available barrel. I was a manufacturer at the time of this video. It was specially made by Faxon firearms to my required specs.
Thanks for the lesson. I'm a very beginner and just bought a 7.5" ar-15. I wanted to change the muzzle brake (looks like there're many options that is better than birdcage it came with) but the part I need to unscrew is bit inside of the hand-guard (just inside to piss me-off, sorry). Is there a way to unscrew the birdcage w/o the taking whole damn hand-guard off? I appreciate your response in advance. Thanks!
With the ar barrel it is not screwed in like a traditional barrel. However in his case It wouldn't hurt to check. Most barrels have threads that screw in to a receiver much like a bolt gun. For example you can rechamber a Mauser 98 in a myriad of different cartridges. Such as .308, .30-06, 6.5 if you find the barrel for it.
You are aware that you only need to set the torque wrench to 30, loosen it, 35, loosen it again, set it to 40, and then you have fitted the barrel nut adequately.... Also, you forgot to dimple the barrel, when installing the gas block?
@@DannySchneible many peeps don't see the importance of the dimple, and those people should just pay people like me(weapons mechanic) to fix their gun instead of f'ing it up!
@@DreadPirarateAndersen I agree with you. I'm interested in studying to be an actual gunsmith (or as you say, "weapons mechanic"). Do you have any suggestions as to where to study for that?
Thank you for the video. But I see something you did wrong. Sorry! You’re not suppose to loosen a tightened nut with a torque wrench. If you did that when I was in the Navy that wrench had to recalibrated.

I thought the lower would be harder to assemble due to the trigger?

@@chrisd5758 same 😂 and these holiday deals make it worse lmao
@@BenjiTheStaffy No lie man my pockets hurting a bit. Going to be putting in a lot of ot these next few weeks 😅
Short, sweet, right to the point. Just what I needed. THANKS BRO!!

Hi temp thread locker...
The blue loctite 246 can withstand 450 F. If you gun exceeds those temperatures, you have a problem.
Does it matter what kinda grease I use to put the barrel and upper together
Just bought a full build your own 300 black out. Waiting for it to come in the mail. Found a great video for the lower. This is a great upper one.
That glass block is cool; however, I recommend something that you can adjust without tools when you cake it up and need more gas to avoid failure to eject/load.
Well whats the recommendation?
Question... How do you start off setting the gas block ? Does length of barrel matter ?
The grease on the threads change the torque value
yeah and he mentioned that
wet vs dry

I should have read this comment, before I made my comment. On Point 👉 👈

So what is gas block timing. I bought all aero precision parts.

Any issue with over torquing the barrel nut? SLR recommends 35 ft/lbs on all ar handguards.
Do you think brake caliper grease would be good because it is rated for high temperatures?
I noticed that you didn't dimple the barrel for your gas block retaining screws. Have you ever had a problem with the gas block moving after firing your rifle?
My Handguard doesnt slide over my barrel nut. Any suggestions
Is that a 3/8 torque wrench?
What's that bullet mat near the top?

I have always put the gas block against the stop but mabe I have been doing it wrong but the guns have always worked good.
What’s the point of the grease ?
never loosen with a torque wrench, that is for reverse threads, you will damage it and wont be giving proper torque

Nice build 👌 👍 thanks
You Never use a torque wrench to loosen.
65 ft lbs on barrel nut seems like a lot. Nice video though, thanks for sharing
Overkill
what make is your handguard? and do you have to purchase a particular barrel nut that corresponds to the handguards?
Building an AR15 on an AK-47 mat lmaoo great video
Nice job! good info, thanks!

nice work 👍👍
Did you just use your torque wrench to loosen the barrel nut?!!
Watch wet torquing things that aren’t specified that way, the hydraulic forces are multiplying your torque, does it really matter here idk, just something to be aware of
Where can you find that barrel?
You cannot actually. It is not a commercially available barrel. I was a manufacturer at the time of this video. It was specially made by Faxon firearms to my required specs.
should list all tools used
Who started the myth of stretching threads lol 😂. Torque it and forget it
Not a myth but I bet you haven’t used an actual precision measure tool
I cried when u broke that nut free with the torque wrench. Goodbye accuracy.

Just take the handguard off should be easy just look up a youtube video
This is awesome, thanks for putting this together.
thank you for the education
Do you know of any manufacturers that offers a very heavy barrel like that?
Aero
What about head space
It's all Mil-Spec, so it's in the design.

I was wondering the same thing. I didn't hear anything about dimpling the gas block.
@@sgtmajorburtontruxel1497 nope, and not dimpling it can evolve into serious gas issues, just like not staking the Gaskey

Same here. The torque wrench allows you to change directions only for reverse thread torque. never to loosen.
Wet torque and dry torque are not the same!
what grease are you useing?
Moly grease
Me with a Troy handgaurd that fits on old school barrel nut 👁👄👁
Where can I buy holy moly grease😂
Thank you so much.
Full auto... suppressed.... from a 9 inch ar???? What were you thinking 🤔
Do you have a picture of the completed AR?
Should never look down the barrel smh.... jk good video I’m late to the party 🎈
did your barrel not have gas block dimples on it for the 2 set screws?
Nope
If I'm not mistaking it was a specialty type gas block, I know years back I had to dimple the barrel.
Wow people love to grease everything!
GREASE ALL THE THINGS!!
Grease is the word.
Holy moly grease
Too much blow by blow analysis.
Holy Moly😂
Pretty poor explanations "I've done it so many times I just".
Congrats. When you apply grease to the threads you complete screw up the torque spec. Always a nice thing to do on a high powered gun!
