Every 'regular' building in sieges can be damaged, but it's not like you're aiming for it. Use more Hellstorm Rocket Batteries during sieges, you might see more of it!

The great thing about war hydras is that they can be made free in a black ark as long as you give quartermaster and have the landmark at clar Karond so it’s a good army to have in a black ark as it can take out most of the pirates that might attack your black arks
Thats a good trick. Thanks I will try for sure. I like the DE but struggling to find any good stack beside shades spam. Even if it cant take on 4 stacks, a free army of strong single monsters is always great.

I think the quality of shade spam I never really hear people talk about, but to me is by far the most important is how quick it is to replace full armies.
2-3 black arks can churn out full armies of rank 9 shades every turn. It doesn't matter to me in the slightest if a shade army can't beat 4 armies, or if they get wiped out, because you'll have another army just as strong up and running next turn anyways.

That's one of the ridiculous things about Dark Elf campaigns; losses just don't really matter because you recruit at max rank from Black Arks anyway.

The name of Power that boosts Hydra's only increases the charge bonus and decreases the upkeep, it's kind of lame compared to 'Shadowdart' or 'Barbstorm'.
If anything the Red line bonuses are way better for them, which he didn't have
Yeah although given that the general was a High Beastmaster, it's safe to assume the player did invest points into the skills that improve monsters which appear as yellow in the graphic.
It's called Beastbinder, and even if it's not Barbstorm, it's still better than what this guy had.
There is "Granitescence" which provides AOE MD and leadership buffs, IMO it's more valuable than Beastbinder if keeping lord in a blob with Hydras

Empire doesn't doomstack, according to Legend. They make good balanced armies and aside from Steak Tank spam there isn't a single unit they can spam to win (aside from a Hellstorm Rocket Meme). Even the Steam Tank spam isn't that great, he made a video featuring Steam Tank spam a while ago.
I'm actually working on a handful of Empire doomstacks (I have 3 templates in mind at the moment) unfortunately my Golden Order save got corrupted so everything was delayed, but i'll send them to Legend eventually

Apparently, all like town buildings can be destroyed but the only good artillery to do that is the rocket battery cause of the inaccuracy + high dmg

Well you can only really use them at the beginning and between engagements as it cannot be used in melee. It would also be very micro intensive.

I've always found that Hydras are pretty squishy and run away quickly.
I think the best name of power for this stack is Granitescence - it provides extra leadership and MD in area and "Stand or DIe" ability.
Also Death Hag on Gauldron provides some AOE physical resist , doesn't she?

Basically, you use it, but not too much.
EDIT: Anticipating a follow-up question of "where is the line?" Not sure about the exact location of the line, but you can pretty much assume that thinning the enemy out with the wizard while keeping the rest of your stack passive is off limits.
@@IAmebAdger The line would be "almost non existent" or just spells that do not entierly change the tide of the battle.
As the creator of the Loremaster Doomstack said in the comment, he didn't include Teclis in the army to prove that this doomstack only needs itslef to work. A doomstack that needs support of a mage or abilities is not a doomstack. It can be a very strong army, or a simple unit spam, but not a doomstack.
I'm really wondering if this army could have win without the mage and the Black Arch spells (which sure he used a lot despite saying he would not relate on them too much, since they are not part of the doomstack)

I always have 2 wizards in my army, a dmg one (shadow is my favourite to clean walls), and a beasts to act as battery/summon Manticore (the empire one is especially nice because of the imperial griffin mount)

Flawless CA logic. animate a random tower on a battle map crashing and being destroyed. Add some dust to siege towers and walls and just swap states.

I like the hydra spam. It moves fast on the campaign map, it heals in battle and it makes offensive sieges - the only part of the game that gets really dull - very quick and easy to fight. It may not score the most impressive victories, but it will handle most enemies and situations just fine if you don't send it against overwhelming force without support. Even here, lightning strike and auto resolve would each have solved the problem.
I use hydra spam quite a lot and gotta say this is not a greatest doomstack that DE can use, but it is the easiest one to use. All you need to do is spam hydras, you can give them a medusa shrine or what's the name of it to buff hydras and debuff the enemy, but they tend to get killed easily. I would give it 8/10. It is a good army just so many masters, too many in my opinion. Also when I was using that kind of army I managed to beat 2,5 stack of Reikland with similar troops. My heroes (melee lord, wizard and death hag) got rekted, but hydras carried it on and won. I think that they perform better in a blob.
what is(or are) great DE lategame armies in your opinion? i either use this or shadespam with 4-6 frontline tank units(either black guard, hydras, medusa or masters) but it gets quite boring after the 3rd/4th army
@@arka5744 I used to run 2 artillery, 4 black guard, lord, death hag, wizard and the rest shades greatswords. Right now I experiment with masters as my frontline instead of black guard. They perform ok, but not great thou. Pure shades just dont have enough holding power, they get easily overrun. In my opinion the best armies are shades based, the first one I mentioned or hydra spam. It's just so easy to use. To get shadowdart is way harder.
Death Hag may only be on the mount for theming purposes.

Favourite stack for Dark Arks. With all the upkeep reductions possible they can becomes almost free.
Personally I wondered if Hydra's could be a good doomstack for Dark Elves. Watching this video will give me a good idea for my own campaign.
Edited: Upon watching the video, good, but maybe not for me. But then, there aren't many options for Dark Elves.
There are some options with Dark Elves. You can go Shade spam with pretty much any lord. You can use a Darkshard army with a bit of frontline. You can use a Monster spam, like dragons or Hydras. The different stacks will get different bonuses depending on the Lord's Name of Power as well. I run like 3 different stacks in my campaigns for shits and giggles (if you want to just play efficiently, probably just spam Shades, but eh).
@@IAmebAdger Dragons aren't going to be that great with no way of healing them IMO.
@@Your_Paramour Yeah, don't spam them, but you can run a couple in your monster stack to deal with weapons teams. Saying that, you can easily run a couple in your Darkshard army to deal with artillery as well. Shades don't really need them because of stalk.
@@IAmebAdger alot of this depends on difficulty played on though, i have a hard time having conversations with people unless I know the difficulty they are on bc on lower difficulty you canj get away with murder as long as u have the absolute basics down.
Hydra's are a very solid stack for Dark Elves. In most cases, you aren't going to be fighting this many late game armies at once, and a Hydra stack will beat most AI stacks without much issue in a 1v1 situation.
Except for the Dwarfs, and Khorne when that comes out.

About the use magic or not thing. In my opinion: Use it! A doomstack is a doomstack, because it is powerful (obviously). Magic is powerful(obviously). So a Doomstack should have magic (apperantly not obviously) But yes that is just my opinion :)
Yes. A doomstack is about everything in the stack. If there are wizards in the stack, then they are a valuable part of the doomstack
I'm not putting a wizard in a Brood Horror doomstack. Even on a Plague Furnace they're too slow. Legend doesn't put them in that doomstack either, but I'm guessing he forgot about that one.

because sometimes wizards are not viable, and that's a specific disadvantage that wizardless stacks have to deal with
I think that came out of one of the Wood Elf? doomstacks where Legend cheesed with the wizard, delaying the enemy army and racking up kills. We didn't get to see the actual doom units in action much. A "doomstack" that relies on the wizard is not a doomstack. Also, why bother having powerful, expensive units if you just use the wizard to win? That's the whole point of Vampire Counts skelly spam. Cheap units that rely on the wizard.
To be fair, if Masters with Spiteful count as inconvenient to recruit, then Pompous-stacks should not get 10/10.
You need masters in provinces, also Pompus is much easier to get, because you can get it on all of their heroes and all of the heroes get goot dino mounts which makes them easier to recruit.

@@Bubbl3Bubbl3gum Yes but at that point you already won the game, also like I said in my previous comment getting spiteful masters can be a pain. It could take 3 turns or 300 turns, depending on your rng.
I made a medusa stack and the only thing that outperformed it was the shade doomstack
Shades are soo good. Sure maybe they cant go up against 4 full stacks, but can take on 2 easily, they are cheap and handle both large monsters and infantry really well. Also completely destroy any siege melt even temple guards and phoenix guards in melee on the wall for some reason (the GS variant of course)

Doomstacks ALWAYS consider the units in them. If they include a wizard, then they take into account the wizard. After all, the units still have a role, however minor that is.
I'm surprised you used the black ark bombardments as you wanted to see how the hydra army did. The wizard is part of the army so using magic fine but not really the black ark.
I mean, he also kinda justified it, ofc you gonna use them when you fight near the sea
Also if you're smart you're going to spend most of the time in Black Ark range anyway, except in a Malus Darkblade campaign.

Just to add also I wouldn't put Masters, Death Hag only for replenishment. I would rather take two Wizards with Arcane Conduit one Fire, and Shadow magic.
Wow this guy sent a proper test for a doomstack. I mean some of these guys in the past 3 weeks seem to think 40 or 50 units to go up against is a proper test. Three full armies! If someone wants to test against 52 units, they should remove 3 from their own stack to make it a proper test.
If you wanna test an all war hydra doomstack just do one. The wizard is there cuz it's part of this doomstack

In the over 2000 hours I have in warhammer 2 I barely seen the empire have demi knights

I would love to see the outcome of the Auto resolve there. that army looks so strong in auto resolve. Might of even been a better outcome
All empire armies destroyed with 6 Hydras lost. You can actually win this battle without any loses but you have to count on ai to derp out and be careful with your units.
wouldnt in make sense to have 2 Kharibdyssin the army as well? deal with large and same upgrade tree.
I think my least favorite thing about warhammer is how every battle devolved into this type of chaos and how cheese tactics are pretty much the only way to play if you want to win in the late game. Fly around to waste enemy ammo or try to figure out the best way to blob the enemy before nuking 700 in one vortex.
You don't need to resort to such things when you're meeting the enemy in a relatively even fight, which you should be doing almost all the time if you're playing well on the campaign map. If you're fighting a 1v3 disaster battle like this then of course you have to employ every trick in the book.
Ah yes, Empire AI, killing their own troops in a way that would put Skaven to shame.
But doomstack is not just hydras in this army but the full composition, so there is no problem of using it imo.
Actually it is, u get doom stack hydra and u click auto-resolve. This is especially useful when creating a naval blockade with black arc as Hydra become dirt cheap with all the upkeep reduction.

beastbinder would give more leadership, less upkeep and more charge bonus. So it's questionable if that would help a lot.
furthermore Granitescence gives temporary buffs around the lord and Moonshadow can give extra movement to the hydras. Besides this there's not much to improve the hydras.
I like the reduced upkeep, this is a really expensive stack.

They gotta make lightning strike dependent on army composition or something to balance it. I mean, they don’t HAVE to, but it would go a long way.
You do understand this will be counted as a buff to skaven in a way, cuz they "lighting strike" with their ambush and they definetly don't need more strenghts over the rest races, plus its a single player and you do spend points to get it so if you don't like it don't use it its simple.

@@axnoro Depends what level they are and how well you use them I frequently see Legend waste them even when enemies are standing still on walls. If you use them correctly, you can delete whole unit's worth with cauldron, blow up artillery pieces, chunk lords and heroes, kill a decent amount of tower health during sieges, etc. Legend is not a Dark Elf player tho, so whatever.
I low-key want to see a helebron livestream from legend, her campaign seems so difficult at the start.
He has covered just about every lord in the game by now, multiple times over. He definitely has played Crone.

You should use all the army. Heroes, wizards, whatever. What's boring is hiding the army and just flying over the enemy casting spells for 10 minutes like the blood knight doomstack. Every part of a doomstack should be active at all times, if you need to hide some parts to protect them, they're not doom worthy.

I remember a year or 2 ago you did a video with kharibdyss spam which was decent. I felt hydras are better now because of the masters + regenerate + flame breath attack.

In general DE monsters are extremely inefficient in what they do not because they are weak but because of shades. Shades are just too good and will absolutely demolish 1.5 stack before they run out of ammo as long as they have a frontline and with barbstorm they are just overkill. Black dragons still retain their usefulness for taking out artillery and weaker flying entities and maybe kharibdyss though overshadowed by BG.
Their roster is fun and with the names of power and you can definitely experiment with witch elf/SoS/HGE but at the end of the day when tackling the order tide only shades and black guards prevail.
I agree that shades are amazing, they are my fav DE unit in fact, however they require a lot of micro againts artillery heavy factions (empire, dwarfs) and thats when I swap to hydras since they are not so suspectible to arty as shades.
I use Shades as the front line to protect my Shades. I find they can hold their own in melee with the upside that they also have a killer ranged attack.
To take out artillery I like using the lord and a dragon or two, but tbh I don't really need it because shades have stalk.

I'm kinda disappointed in how you're using the hydras. . . You've commended their breath attacks before saying they were better than dragons b/c of the angle, and I agree. You chose to over micro your wizard instead of using your army optimally. This saddens me. You could've done it, but wanted to be lazy to test their abilities. I agree the stack's ease of use gives it points, but by decreasing it's points there, it would gain as many in strength with using the breaths. You're skilled enough to micro it all, I've seen you do things like it, I'm just a bit disappointed. Sorry for the rant. I'm sure you're tired.

Same. I think that this army is designed to be used that way. Before attack breath. After charge. Magic. And since they're hydras you can pull out damaged units to regen and breath again etc.

The point of masters on dark pegasus is to have air superiority. I have lost so many sorceresses to HE or Bretonnia cuz of their flyers
Depends. I like using my beastmaster lord to snipe weapons teams and other artillery, so I like the manticore for that.

My modded version of this is the war hydra, Kharabdys, pagowyrm, sciowyrm, black dragon, magma dragon, sea dragon doomstack...
Only 0.5 points better then the doomflayer but this one would have easily destroy the doomflayer one

Just for confirmation because I'm not entirely sure, is the role of the War Hydra in an army basically the anti-infantry equivalent of the Kharibdyss? Or have I got that wrong?
Well, war hydras don't have anti infantry bonus so they are anti anything really. Considering how much they are buffed by lord and heroes in this particular army they are very strong. Plus unlike Kharibdyss, Hydra does have regen which makes it sturdier.

@@soulseptem5281 Maybe, it's definitely a lot more difficult to win this battle with shade spam (obviously a shade spam could win this situation easily with Lightning Strike, but I'm guessing what you want is to assume we don't have Lightning Strike). But there are other factors that go into a rating, like Shade spam is much easier to recruit, it costs much less in upkeep, and it doesn't take Masters away from your provinces to hurt you economically. So you could have more armies doing more stuff if you rely primarily on Shades.
@@IAmebAdger Correct however the ratting is about how strong the doomstack is. So if you want to talk about shad spam you have to apply the same rules. Yes shads are cheaper and can be recruited 1 tier earlier than hydra's. However money is less of a factor with DE than other races such as WE. That is why im saying this army should not be compared to the HE doomstacks but instead to the other armies you could recruit as DE. I personally do a mix of shade spam at the begging of a campaign and then switch to hydra spam. This is mainly due to hydra spam having amazing auto resolve as you could see in the video.
@@soulseptem5281 Nah, the rating isn't just about how strong the doomstack is. It's also about how the doomstack affects your economy. There's been multiple videos now where he's given minus points to a doomstack because it's expensive or because it takes Masters away from provinces.

Wayyyyy too expensive and too long to recruit to be a goos doomstack, nothing beats the cost effectiveness of shades spam
Well yes but also no in this case, cause they wouldn't have had enough ammo to win this, plus their artillery would have been fatal plus the enemy lords/heroes would have been Hella annoying

@@sanderkiki I mean, agent armies work most of the time, if they have items or a certain trait, just take like 3 mages with you
@@xiii0722 certain trait sometimes can duck you up by screwing your RNG so you almost never get said trait. *cries in sphinx carver necroteps*
i was playing 1 unut type/hero spam armies too much so just can't stand them anymore =_=
