I recommend using a compressed air canister to shoot air into the mold while you are trying to release your project. It breaks the suction and uses air pressure to push the resin piece out.
Hey Dan! I have an idea for a DIY. I was at a pottery place and decided to put on my mug the logo to my website. Then I had the idea to add a QR code. Still haven't done it but it would be so cool to have a mug with, the text/logo to your website/TH-cam channel page, and a QR code on it. Maybe you could use a stencil for the QR code and do your sharpie oven trick. Maybe you can even put a RFID/NFC chip that you can have (hidden) on the mug(NFC chips are very cheap and you can even extract them from hotel key cards(only the ones without the black strip))
Edit: I'm not 100% sure the QR code will work(because of the curves of the mug...QR codes may not be able to scan when bent). Good luck if you try to do it!

Dan! Look into two part molds, and registration marks or cuts. Love the diy series!
suggestion for sanding (the method I use for buffing my Tiffany silver pieces) - each time you change grit, change direction. For example, starting at 600 in an up and down motion move to 800 in a side to side motion. You’ll notice a huge difference. 🌸

These videos are so fun and positive that it makes my day so much better. So thank you Dan for brighten my day! For removing the piece some advice is to cut like a zigzag line on the side but not all the way to the bottom and before you put in the resin in wrap some support around the mold. And that should make it easier.

Quick tip. To fill in surface bubbles and make sanding less labor intensive, do a final clear coat of epoxy and hit it with the torch.

You can butterfly the mold itself. Right down the middle. Then create a hard case around the seams so it doesn’t leak.
for the silicone mold, cut zig zag down the middle so its like two halves but theres only one way it can go together. then just clamp together and pour!

Something you can try to get a cast out of a mold without destroying the cast: get a can of pressurized air and use to tube to spray a bit of air in the mold to get the sides to release from the silicone a bit more

Also think you may need to explore different stuff for polishing. Nick zametti might have some ideas
Run a sink full of room temperature water and add some dish soap. Drop in piece to be unmolded. Swish around to distribute soap; leave a few minutes and viola!!! Demolds much easier.

To fill air bubbles on the perimeter after solidified. Try using a brush and some resin to close all bubbles

If you cut a mold in a zig zag way it will be easier to get the item out of the silicon mold xo keep up the amazing work xo

Dan you need to cut down the side of the mold in a zigzag stripe. You will need to rubber band the mold together when you use it.
For molds just one big straight slit is the easiest to get stuf out

I think I’ve seen other artists cut a zigzag down the side of the silicon to get the thing inside out easy and then because you’ve cut the zigzag it almost fits back together like a puzzle piece
Dan have you thought about using a two part mold? Or pre slitting your molds? Or will the resin seep through ?

What if you sprayed mold release on the object before you pour the silicon ? Ive never done it may have a bad reaction hahha
Do a zig zag line going down the mold and when u need to use it again put it in a tube and wrap sellotape around it

Ur supposed to cut the mold all the way down in half so the pieces can fit back together like a puzzle so ur mold

U can take things out the mold fast and easy and when u pour resin into the mold u just close the mold easily and cover the cuts with clay or something to secure it

What about if you make zig zag lines down the side so that even when it’s back together you can’t see it, and rubber band it for extra security, that what I do with my silicone moulds.

As someone with different chronic illnesses, who has to take medications daily.. I feel like I need to make a pill like this/similar, just as a representation of all the medications I have taken, the ones I still take and the ones I'll take in the future😂😂😂

Id imagine bulk barn is like a Sams Club😂
Dan you need to learn about 2 parts moulds and not just one part moulds like you're doing, and secondly, make zig cuts when you're cutting the mould down and do this down to the middle of the mould when you are doing one part moulds, that way it's not only easier to get the piece out but also will give you some locking when you put the mould back together.
