yes, these are the best places to fish here in Washington. Very satisfying to be in that beautiful scenery and catch and release wild trout. Heading out soon..
Beautiful water D! Looks like a fun day! That first fish was gorgeous! Enjoyed this strategy tutorial. I'll have to try the 2 rod approach as it does cut down on time, and allow you to zero in on what's working quicker! Thank you!
Does the bamboo allow for casting as far as you need it to? I am a newbie and I get that graphite is lighter and has more 'power' but I've been interesting in 'glass and I have a nice 3 WT glass that I just love how it feels. It probably doesn't cast as far especially with me.
Bamboo are definitely not designed for distance - but I was easily casting 40-60 feet. They feel a bit heavy...but once a fish is hooked, bending all the way to the cork! TON of fun to fish with!
Dan, you encourage me to tie on more streamers (something I normally only fish when I "have to" 🙄). I approach holes very similar to what you showed (I do or or two small dries, then a larger dry with dropper, then two nymphs before giving up). Freestone rivers don't always have the food supply that a dam controlled river does and normally they either bite or they don't when food comes along. It could be that last / your streamer presentation just triggers a reflexive strike or who-knows-what; it's trout after all... How long is that 3wt. you use to throw those streamers? Another great video, Dan. You are a lucky / blessed man. ☮
Awesome! I love my Opros holster but I guess I do too much bushwacking when fishing waters in my area, it's always hard to maneuver around the overgrowth with a second rod. Looks nice and clear where you are here though!
For the standard fly tying - I use an improved clinch. For leader to tippet - I use the double surgeon. For big streamers, I use the easier version of the duncan loop.
Not a Cottonwood, it would be much larger around at that height. A week ago we heard those cracking sounds at a campground during a thunder storm. It knocked down hundreds of trees across the county in northern Iowa. Dan, have you fished the driftless area of Iowa/Wisconsin/Minnesota?
Someone said it might have been Bigfoot shoving it over...hmmmm. I have not, but I have an open invitation from someone I know that lives near Madison, perhaps one day I will!
Love your content and super helpful tips. I've noticed you find great success with a sculpzilla pattern. I was wondering what size you typically use on mountain streams, and if you're using a full sinking line. Thanks for any feedback and I look forward to your next video!
I do have a ton of success with that fly. I use typically their largest size and the one down from that (can't remember the exact number associated with the size). I rarely use a sink tip - just lengthen the leader a bit if I need to get down. Hope that helps!
I thought this law meant you can only have one line in the water on designated trout streams… not that you can’t have a couple of rods that you rotate…
I'm new to tge channel anyway you can do longer videos please other than a few minutes a video like 25 or 30 minute long videos I'd like to learn all there I'd to know about fly fishing I've never fly fished before
Hello Kenny - welcome to my channel! I can look into that - typically I found that most people don't like the longer content. Maybe I can do both - thanks for the inspiration!
The title of this video was catching fish on small streams. I don't know what kind of medication this guy is on but I think he ought to have it checked if this is a small stream he hasn't been to Griffith's area in Wisconsin.
Great tutorial FFD! I love how you blend a good day of fly fishing in with education - no one else does that, well done! Keep them coming!
Thank you! Very happy to hear you enjoyed that! Cheers!

Nice! Best of luck to you today!
Dude, that little sculpzilla is my favorite pattern. It’s so good!
Mine too! I'd like to shake the creator's hand :))
I have to say this was a great video! It's great that you showed not all fish are giant and that fly fishers lose flies!! Thx!
Thank you! I definitely keep it real in my videos...I lose flies, lose big fish, catch dinks all day long :))
Really enjoyed this one Dan, beautiful country.
Thank you John! I appreciate you taking the time to watch. Cheers!
Beautiful camera work showing your experience!
Thank you!

Thank you Al - it's a good life indeed :) The 3-weight is my Dad's...likely 90's series and it's 8.5 feet long. Great action - love that rod!
Nice video, Dan. Spectacular scenery and beautiful cutthroat!……Thank you!!! 👍🎣
Thank you Kevin! I appreciate you taking the time to watch, cheers!
Love this - thanks for the great advice!
You are so welcome!
Nice fly fishing video. Thumbs up.
Thanks 👍

It's a great accessory for sure - even if it's just to have a secure place to put your rod when retying a fly or tangle. Now they lock - love that!
Hi dan! Love your video from italy!
Super cool that we can connect from across the globe, thank you for taking the time to watch!
Dan, what is your preferred knot for fly to tippet?!?! Thanks
For the standard fly tying - I use an improved clinch. For leader to tippet - I use the double surgeon. For big streamers, I use the easier version of the duncan loop.
truly is bittersweet watching these videos given I just broke my foot. going to miss the whole summer bite
UGH - very sorry to hear! I'll send some healing vibes your way! I'll cast a line in honor of you getting back out soon!
Hello Dan! great advise video.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!

Nice crux brewery shirt 😎
Thanks DG! Love that brew :))
I don’t fly fish but I’m loving your content man!
Thank you! Well - maybe you will be inspired to pick up a fly rod one day :)) Thanks for being a part of my channel, I appreciate that!
Dan great video the tree falling over could’ve been big foot ! trees just don’t fall over by them self that’s very scary !
Hmmmm...never thought of that! But now that you said it could have been...I mean, you are right, trees just don't randomly fall in a breeze
Trees don’t fall over by themselves? Really?

Warmer...East side of the mountains ;)
Sculpzilla for the win!
I'd like to shake the guy's hand who invented this fly - lights out!
@@FlyFishDan yeah caught me my first ever fish on the streamer in my most recent video
Fish on!!
FISH-ON indeed!
Dan, Noticed the Crux shirt. Are you from Bend? We should get out together sometime if so.
Hello! Love that shirt and brewery :)) I travel into Bend for work from time to time- maybe one day I'll live there...love that town!
Nice, nice, nice Dan, beautiful beautiful fish.😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍 Nice work. He was a little upset, wasn't he?😁😁😁
Very!
Great content, nice nature video, don't step in the ant hill. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Lee, yes very nice and I won't! I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I see you;re wearing a Crux shirt. That's my town! Come say hi and we'll go fishing together.......and have a beer at Crux!
Love that beer :))
I want to be you when I grow up. Keep it going
That's kind of you to say - I will absolutely keep er going!
I wish we had West Slopes here in Oregon
We do, John Day area has West Slope for sure!
They are a pretty amazing fish for sure.
That's right! I had a friend recently make that trip and did really well.
@@Shaggy7166 I knew someone was gonna bring that up. It’s a tiny portion of the state though. We DO love our redbands 😉
Damn nice!
Thanks!
You've got it really beautiful beautiful over there.😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
It really is!
In Georgia we can’t have two rods with us…
Well that's a bummer...the O'Pros also makes for a good station to park your rod when making a fly change.
I thought this law meant you can only have one line in the water on designated trout streams… not that you can’t have a couple of rods that you rotate…
@@rogerchristian2226 I’m not sure of the wording but have been told one rod only.

Bigfoot knocked the tree down. You stole his fishing spot.
Lol - I know right??

The only medication I need is the one I find when I’m outdoors. It’s all relative I suppose - cheers and FISH-ON!!
I wanna know more about what happened when you got shot at. Was it an accident? A warning? Someone wearing a MAGA hat? What happened??
