I absolutely love Vampire Weekend's debut album! Such an interesting blend of pop, punk, prog and African style guitar! From the same album, I would highly recommend "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa", where they mention a famous singer who we are all very familiar with on this channel. ???

Love Vampire Weekend... their album "Modern Vampires Of The City" is fantastic... and from that "UNBELIEVERS," "WORSHIP YOU," and "YA HEY" are outstanding. Well worth listening to!!!

You’re going to get some haters…for various reasons…but they have had a great run with lots of great tunes and their newest release this year may be the most adventurous yet.

I almost got fooled by the intense backlash against this band. I listened to their debut a few times when it came out, liked it, but then the haters got so loud that for a little while I thought I must have been wrong. I'm glad I eventually came around again, because they’ve grown into one of the very best rock bands of the 21st century.

I like the first three albums the most. I have 4 out of the 5 on vinyl, but I haven't really explored the newest one.

@@GeoffCB I think their fourth is best thought of as a great 45 minute album with some bonus tracks sprinkled in, but the new one is a return to form (or at least, brevity).

Ah, one of my favorite bands. I'm not sure why they were labeled as New York hipsters, as a negative connotation, but I love them. Their sound mixes chamber music with indie music and AfroPop. And it works! Their music has shown up multiple times on advertisements from Apple ipods to hotels. Great band!

Great band, lots of musical variation between songs. The chamber pop aspect of the songs is good fun too. They've had a consistently good output for four or five albums now! You should listen to the rest :)

I don’t hear this connection made a lot, probably just because they’re not English, but Vampire Weekend reminds me in many ways of XTC:
Just try to imagine Andy Partridge’s defiantly clever pastoral arty Swindonness, his refusal to be in any way "cool", but transposed into the milieu of an Ivy League Manhattanite. Like XTC, this is a group beloved for their impeccable, eclectic songcraft, their rare facility for both melody and rhythm, but with a permanent "cult band" ceiling on their popularity because they don’t care how much they irritate people.

Hood Internet did a mashup of A-Punk with Project Pat that honestly is the best thing I have ever heard. Wish I could find it on their site now, but it appears to be missing.

Good stuff, though not too familiar with a lot of their material. One of the last bands to create a buzz in the indie sector, at the same time they got a lot of flag for "plundering" afrobeat, a genre that clearly was nothing white indie snobs from NY fit in.
I don't know, the blending of genres usually is what drives pop culture forward...

Some African music in there! (I see that's an influence according to Wiki, so yes.) th-cam.com/video/8orBu7n0QEo/w-d-xo.html
(Irrepressible might be the one word summary for the many songs that don't touch on sorrow or church matters, and stick to the way that life is pretty fantastic when you think about it.)

To be honest, the music is not very good, I didn’t like it, another modern, run-of-the-mill band, alternative nonsense, nothing much to talk about, no melody, few instruments, it’s not even clear what kind of direction this is, a semblance of rock music.
