  • I stuck Tucker right into welding with this project. We install a new blade face on a 650J dozer.
He has only welded at school for a couple months so this was his first time outside the classroom and I think he did great. Let him know in the comments. If you need a new blade skin for you dozer let us know

I learned a trade working with my father. It was tough at times he expected a lot of me. I wouldn't trade it for the world looking back at it I really enjoyed my time working with him. Whenever I can I will go pick him up and take him out on jobs with me. My father taught me a lot from work ethic to the skills I make my living with today.

Tucker you are the future welder at C & C Equip, and your Dad just gave you a Masters course in fitment, prep, and technical knowledge for welding and plasma cutting. Your hand skills are very good, and you listen well. Also, in case you did not hear him your Dad was very supportive and encouraging while letting you do the work. You are a very fortunate young man, for a lot of reasons. Clint, well done, that was a pleasure to watch. Thank You

Tucker did a fantastic job wielding the skin on and you did a fantastic job of teaching him. Your father, son relationship is great also. Tucker don't get upset if you make a mistake, it's part of learning. If you make a mistake, learn from it. It's part of life. We're not perfect. Ask your dad, he'll know.

The learning of this skill is definitely a plus for your son. The experience / bonding of "father & son time" is immeasurable. This is what he will carry with him long after he's on his own.
His confidence - under a positive guidance, will exponentially grow and he'll have you to thank.
I admire your work ethic and willingness to mentor your sons' growth.
May God continue to bless you and your family. Amen 🙏

Tucker is learning a talent that will help him his entire life. Certification qualification is valuable, working in a chemical plant, we needed a 18 Chrome welder. We were able to find four quality welders in the entire country that were able to take on the job we needed done. The secret for quality welding is to keep looking over the product you are welding, you want to do the best job that you can do with every job that you do. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Good job Tucker.
As an equipment mechanic and builder for over 40 years I've seen some things.
Your first time welding those curved plates on a scalloped face was better than most guys I've seen.
Those tack welds that split were telling you what was happening with the surfaces you were joining together.
I'm sure your dad and welding instructor told you about how metals move as they are heated. It's all part of adapting to the situation as it develops.
Welding and operating are a lot the same, as you learn the capabilities of the equipment, the more you can push those limits.
As you learn how different metals fight each other when being welded together you will also realize different ways to make it work, like using heat in another area of the surface to release the tension or dimpling an area with a hammer to change stress points.
There is always something new to learn and you have great teachers around you.👌
Don't be disappointed when you try something and it doesn't work, just look at it and figure out what needs to be changed or adjusted.
    Job well done young man.🤙

Hello Clinton, thanks for the video. Tucker did great for his first try and since you invited us to comment, I'd like to do that. So Tucker, I'd like to say that it's very important to develop good habits from the start. So if you re-watch this video you will see the whole time your MiG cable was around your feet and you were constantly kicking it out of the way. So give this a try by pulling the cable away from the job several feet and then turn back and approach your project. In this way, the cable is always behind you. you're right handed like your Dad so try pulling the cable over your right shoulder and down to your waste to get it completely out of your way and go for it. Aaron Bumm (Mike Simmons friend) does something I did not do but wish I did years ago, before the flash he says "eyes". This is so anyone close is reminded to look away or wear safety glasses. While working around welders at the shipyard, I was flashed often so you may want to incorporate that step into your welding protocol. Your doing good and will get better in time. Cheers from Canada

Tucker - in most jobs, it matters a lot more how much you care about doing a good job than it matters how much experience you have. Attitude is at least half the job. Be honest with yourself about what you do and what you could do better, consider the praise, advice and criticism you get but do not let it define you and your work. Master those approaches, and you can succeed at almost anything. Good luck young man.

I 8yrs old practicing with 7014 at the shop. So I welded this contraption together and through it in the scrap bin after I was done.
We moved all the equipment to the country. I was around 18 bringing things into the shop. Here's the ugly looking welded scabbed pieces of steel welded together. I asked my what are you keeping this sh*t for. He goes you don't know what that is. Nope. You welded that long time ago. I said you don't have better things to do. 😄

Fun to watch you work with those young men of yours. You are spot on when you made the statement that real life welding is not like class room, if I might add something, and that is this, on site welding (field welding)can be a bit more challenging than in shop welding in the fact you have the elements to deal with as well as at times not having the convenience of equipment and at times not enough help when needed. Tucker did a great job looking forward to seeing more from him. Dad and mom are doing a great job of raising their young men, thanks for the ride along sir.

I think he did a great job of welding. Dad, you are a good teacher. I tell all new welders it is one thing to put two pieces of metal together. Welding takes determining what welding prosses should be done to have a near-perfect end result. That takes years of working with all kinds of metal and knowing how it responds to heat and cooling. I have welded everything from 20 gages tin to 4-inch or more armor-piercing steel and had to pass exrays on thousands of welds. I have had people ask me to weld stuff so rusted most people would tell them to toss it in the garbage. Nowadays, When people ask how much I charge, I usually say no charge because I love the challenge. There are production welders, but most welders have to know how to design and fabricate as well.

    Good job young man!
Long time ago I used to watch my neighbour weld up tubular chassis for drag cars and just watching, he made it look so easy that anyone , even I could do it. Big, big difference I soon learned from being a spectator and him teaching me to MIG weld. He would let me use a welder any time I wanted and in a few months time my welds got to looking and holding pretty good. Then he decided it was time to move on to TIG. That was a whole different story.
You got a great teacher though, and patience so no question you will learn quick.

It can't be helped when Dad is a master of all trades, althought we need to give Mrs. C. a little credit for good childraising.

Tucker you are a clever young man and with the incentive of making some money on the sale the dozer you are learning some very valuable skills. Dad is a good teacher as he has the patience to show and share with you this experience. Well done.

Nothing better than watching a father pass his knowledge and skills down to his son. I watched this video and had flashbacks to my dad teaching me things that have lasted all my life. Thanks for all the great content you share!

All I have to say is when I trained in welding I was told never wear anything nylon like a hoodie when welding or cutting. All ways wear cotton or leather it will not melt & burn. Good to see you guys working so well together, "Happy Family's"

I sure enjoyed watching your son learn to weld. I started when I was about his age. I welded in the Navy aboard two aircraft carriers. After that worked in the shipyard for a few years. There is always somebody who needs something welded. I am 73 now and still welding.

Good job tucker! Learn all you can and stick with it! I’ve been in my trade for over 20 yrs and there’s a lot of satisfaction in being a master at what you do. I love making it look easy, and I’m always eager to teach a young man that listens vs arguing with me. You seem to listen well and pay attention. I applaud you for it!
