    Can't thank you enough. I have a 1992 Evinrude E10RENA and it wouldnt start no matter what i tried or replaced. Had good spark, carb cleaned, nothing. Because of your videos, i tore it all down and put it all back together with all new gaskets etc and it now runs great. Ended up being a bad gasket (water jacket or main seal underneath gasket) was sucking in water into the block when trying to start. Not anymore. Thank you sir.

    Thank you very much for your series of videos on the johnson 15hp outboards. I had gotten a 79, and while pretty well taken care of, it needed some maintenance. It is the first outboard I've owned, and your video on the carb helped tremendously. As well as this video getting me out of a bind when my started came apart on me. Thanks again.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to produce this immensely illustrative document. I just rebuild my 77 15 horse lower unit and water pump and it works great. I watch this thirty times

    Thank you for all the videos of the 15 hp, I really like them, and they help me.
    I watch your video before I make something for myself.

    Those converging rings are a bitch to say the least ! Lol Nice looking evinrude , I have 3 early 80’s 15hp and love them ! The only thing that missing is the cover for the tiller joint .

    I lost the washer that goes to the cup. $8 for an oem part. Do you know the size so I can pick one up for less than a dollar? Thank You!

    Hey what’s up I have the same motor and exactly how your coil blew up when you opened it that’s how it blew up on me when I tried to open it and it broke the little nob that goes in the coil on the plastic side do you think I’ll be ok or would I need to replace it at 3:19 you can see the nob I’m talking about

      You mean the pin on the starter base? If so, its pretty important.

    As far as a shifting issue,on my 9.9 when moving out of reverse I would have to give it a small bump forward to get it out of reverse and back to neutral.would this be shift rod adjustment in lower unit or could it be adjusted up top like you did?

    Hi, if I tight the bolt on the starter , the starter then becomes stuck and won’t spin at all , any thoughts?
    Thanks

      Washer missing at the top or bottom of the starter bolt?

  • @maf2609
    @maf2609 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brandon, do you have video of the adjustments you made to the shift rod detente? The swivel nut in the shift lever (part 0323657) broke on mine & I have not been able to get the replacement adjusted. It keeps popping out of gear & back in underway. Even a link to some detail on how to do it would help. Thanks

    • @BrandonsGarage
      @BrandonsGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I may not be because of the detent. It may be because of a rounded clutch dog.
      You can pull that upper detent out completely and it should still stay in gear.

    I'm confused, where did you get that starter rope with a specific part number on it? Have never seen that before. The 71" dimension you found is for an older model 9.9/15 that had a slightly different style starter and grip that required a little more rope. The parts book calls for cutting 68.5" off a roll of 322236 rope that a dealer has hanging in a roll in his shop. Again, I am very interested in where you found that precut rope with a part number, let me know....It is advisable to simply wrap the rope around the pulley one or more times, instead of cutting it off, to obtain more tension. A starter rope that is too short will cause problems by slipping out of the owners hand if he pulls it out too far, then the spring might be damaged when the rope "whiplashes" back into the recoil.

      I got the part number out of the dealer 'Parts and Accessories 2007' Catalog.
      Its a great book to have. Tell you all the newest part numbers, kits, etc.

    Do you happen to know why the cooling water discharge tube is on one side of the powerhead and the fixture the water tube connects prior to ejecting the cooing water overboard is on the opposite side of the power head? Why not have a shorter tube and discharge on the same side of the powerhead? I own a Yamaha 15 and an Evinrude 8, both 2 cycles, both have this common design element where the cooling water exits the powerhead into a tube that then goes aft around the spark plugs to the opposite side of the cowl/bracket through a fitting on the opposite side of the powerhead before being discharged overboard.
    Thank you for a well done video!

      On these, its on the same side.
      On others, I don't know. Im no engineer, but they did if for a reason.

      The placement of the telltale water stream idea was simple...
      The tiller is on the port side of the engine, so when you hold it in your left hand, you can sit closer to the centerline of the boat. The water stream exit is placed on the starboard side so that you can just look back and see it. If it were on the port side your view would be blocked by the engine itself.
