I did back ONUS and believe you will really enjoy it. The solo mode works well but also love the 2 player (or more) game. Looking forward to your gameplay!

OK! I have been wargaming since 1958 when I bought my first wargame at a gift shop in GETTYSBURG ,PA! I play all genres - board games, miniatures, and video games. I finally solved my minis storage problem about 20 years ago when I started to use vinyl sheet steel in jeweler storage trays and used vinyl sheet magnets on the mini bases. BUT my board game storage I have never been happy with. AH produced storage trays back in the day, but they were never really satisfactory. DVG has the same style and while they are a huge improvement, they are not quite there. When I saw your blog and comments about CUBE4ME I initially was under whelmed. HOWEVER, I bought some DVG sets in any case. WHERE THE HECK HAS THIS BEEN THE LAST 66 YEARS? I just used the system on WARFIGHTER TACTICAL WORLD WAR II and was completely won over! WOW what a GREAT system. I am going to buy many more to get rid of my plastic zip lock baggie collection! A HUGE THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW ABOUT THIS SYSTEM!

Also very happy to see you mention Minard´s graph - That was a big inspiration for the focus of the design, which is the attrition of the armies from both combat and (especially) non-combat causes. So if you like the graph you will LOVE the game ;)
Besides hiding your combat strenght behind the leader screens the blocks are used for hidden orders so you cant see what the enemy is planning to do during the turn.

Dunkerque is an upgrade to the White Dog game A Spoiled Victory. Which itself is a great game.

Attempted to buy A Most Fearful Sacrifice on KS, but only despatching to US & Canada, will keep checking NKG, discovered our dining room table opens up to 7 foot, only owned it for 22 years.
Have rcvd France 40 & Rebel Fury is on route. Washington's War & For The People up next. Need to cull my wish list before adding any more games. Excellent update. Many Thanks.

Thanks for stopping in, Bob, and yeah, those two games look really good. The Italia one, as you mention, is such an under-gamed topic. And that 1812 game looks like a fun 2-player game.
Oh no no no, you've got that all WRONG. I HATE thinking! It always sets off our smoke alarms! 😄 Dog starts barking at the smoke alarms, my wife yells at me for making the dog bark; the kids and their comments of "it smells like toast"... 😄

I'm in the P500 of Lenins Legacy. Matthias is an awesome designer and the cards seem to use parts of the Weimar mechanics. Thanks for the complete overview, Mike.

Yes, I realize a number of their games are a long ways off, but their work is so creative and visually appealing that it's hard not to get excited about their future.

Excited to hear the playthrough for Onus is coming. Can confirm that KS backers already have it and I quite like it -- I play a lot of minature games so I'm pretty used to this style of game. It's a really solid ruleset for Ancients battles, the artwork is incredible and having the unit stats on the cards makes it very accessible. Really glad I backed it.

Onus looks pretty cool. Cards in place of miniatures screams a bit like some sort of blend between Summoner Wars (which I love), mixed in with maybe even some Battlelore (that one has minatures), but definitely need to see how a game like this plays without a board/hexes/something. Looking forward to your video on that one later.
Yes, I might try to work out some sort of colorful mat for it. The Kickstarter mats aren't around now, but I think a nice black felt might look really good too.
I've seen some play testing for Miracle at Dunkerque and it looked a lot of fun. I need to keep tabs on that one because its the Western Blitzkrieg 1940 and that is of big interest to me.
I think Hermann has a skill for that sort of linear defense mechanic in a variety of creative forms. This one does look fun, for sure. :)
I'm not tempted by area movement games but that one does tempt me a bit because of the subject matter.@@ZillaBlitz
@@ZillaBlitz there is definitely something of his recent Plum Island Horror game in Miracle at Dunkerque. Or I should probably say the other way around as I believe this "system" for Dunkerque was created first.

I saw and read the rules of Vuca's 1812 at CSW Tempe last summer, and it looks excellent. I'm looking forward very much to it. The complexity is not high, but you do give hidden orders to your forces so a solo mode looks impossible... (so, if you are looking for an opponent, just let me know.)
Nothing wrong with a great 2-player game, not everything has to work as a solo experience. That's good to hear about the rules, thanks for sharing. :)

Does anyone have any more information on 'Bismarck: The Last Battle'? [Edit: I just saw that on BGG people have been asking for more information on this game for 4 years!] Interesting that with all the interest in this subject, but does not seem to be a video or other preview online. Thanks for pointing this game out.
It was interesting. After I made this I found an older Board Game Geek page with a different cover for the game, too, which made me think this is a re-release or a new edition but not completely new. So I'm kind of confused too. :)

Oh, interesting! Yes, some definite similarities there. I mean, the theme is totally different but cards on a flat surface is very similar, for sure.
they must've tanken inspiration from battleground.
Onus additionally has siege scenarios, though (but no included terrain tiles to depict them, so there is that).

I am a bit confused about ONUS Trianus, I bought the game months ago from their website. Is this version different at all? the game I bought has all the extra features that are listed.
You probably got the Kickstarter version, as part of that, with all the extras? I think now is the general retail version release. :)

I am really conflicted about Onus. The idea is great, but there are so many weird little niggles.
I have read the rules of 1812, and it seems really promising. And yeah there is so much hidden info this would be pretty bad solo, it's also why I am excited for it cause it allows for a lot more fun cat and mouse which really fit in this operational picture.
The blocks will end up stickered and they are there to place hidden orders (Which you buy with ops points through a cdg engine)
Have always been excited about Vuca, but just haven't really had the games that spoke to me, seems they have a lot of interesting stuff in the pipeline though. Suddenly there is a lot I have an eye on.
