My uncle has been a monk at the abbey for more than 50 years. I first visited at age 8. Then again at age 18. Again at age 42. I live on the other side of the world from the abbey and my uncle, but the abbey is always in my heart. I find myself yearning for the abbey sometimes. When I visited the first time, and my parents said it was time to go, I cried and said I wanted to stay with 'Uncle Brother'. They all laughed and said that a girl can't stay at the abbey. It just about broke my heart, because I think that as a young child, I somehow knew that the abbey was a little slice of heaven on earth: how could anyone leave there? Though we've only met about 5 times in my life, I have always had a close spiritual bond with 'Uncle Brother.' I'm sure his prayers have been a constant source of God's grace in my life 'in the world.' I thank God that I can have the abbey as a refuge in my heart.
Visited Tarrawarra Abbey for 2 days.Dom Farrell..."sign thix" o.c.s.o. Oblate. How sweet is the present moment of bothers sisters cousins aunts uncle's husbands and wives. How the breeze, the actions of creation.
My heart swells with joy everytime I think of the Abbey. It was the place that cemented my conversion and the spark for my decerning a vocation to the religious life. Thanks for posting this video.
There have been many a morning when I wake up, utterly destitute, and feel that I want to hold the whole world in my arms as a father holds his children. Then I hear inside of me the sublime Gregorian chants sung by Trappist monks. Thank you...for praying for us all....
I am blessed to be able to visit Gethsemani. When I am away, I truly am homesick. It is the first place I've been that I actually felt at home. I remember all the monks each morning and night in my prayers. PAX
I had the opportunity and blessing to visit the Abbey several years ago and I have been yearning to do it again. Too bad I live in South America, it’s rather expensive to get there but I m sure that one day I will make it there. Pray for that, please.!
Spoke to them, thought about joining, but according to the Trappist way of life and their particular order of rules. Once professed, you don’t leave. You get 3-4 days a year to see your family, but they have to come to you, you can’t go see them. Couldn’t agree to those terms. What a pity. Looks so tranquil and beautiful. They’re wonderful! But, for me, I can’t see my family only 3-4 days a year.

I was just there today - I was mystified and cannot think of anything else this afternoon.

+B Stahr Sounds like a calling. That's what vocation means, vocare in Latin, "To call".
God Alone! How blessed and wonderful our loving Lord is! The God who was, who is and is to come, at the end of the ages. 🙏🏼

I know that our family friend Br. Pachomius is buried there at Gethsemani. He loved the Abbey -- he loved that life. We miss him.

Not when you have a child. Couldn’t walk away from that. If they allowed vacation time, it would be different, but they don’t.
if it didnt end in .wmv i might be suspicious
no excuse for giving up gregorian chant
