Another great informative video. I decided to take a look under my covers. Haven't looked under them since I purchased the car 5 years ago. Surprised that there is actually a difference between our engines. Mine is a 2002 4.0. I have an additional filter besides the brake booster. Looks like a clear inline gas filter, but nothing attached to the one end. Thinking it must be an air filter for the brake booster. My rubber tubes were clean, just a bit of dust. Car has only seen about 5 minutes of rain since I've had it. Also noticed your Throttle body is different then mine. Yours seems to have what looks like some sort of round metal diaphragm next to the air intake. Mine doesn't.

After watching your last video about replacing the pollen filter (have I got one? Don't know) I was imagining going a week before I could get my next 'fix'. I was going to suggest that you gave up all other activities completely and concentrate on producing at least one video a day....... and then you give us another gem. Thank you John.

Great and informativ, however Thanks... and another effect for the "german islander fellow (75)" is ... I have learned a lot of car technical terms, I never heard before ! SUPER - You are my best english language teacher ! ; )) Thanks for that too.

      Thanks Udo
I think we a re due an episode on the different names for car parts around the world. Even if we stick to English in its various forms, there will be plenty to discuss.

Was going to check my hose with the strap tomorrow but after watching how to remove the wiper arms with your home made gadget I think I will have to give it a miss ...

😁 Check the hose anyway Debbie. its easy even without removing the scuttle.
If the little elastic band is not attached then you need to know about it.🤞

    Excellent video John.

Hi John, loving the videos. I have a suggestion for a possible video - the 'anti-rattle buffers' in both my doors have either vanished (window was replaced once after being smashed so I assume they were lost) or have broken - this results in the windows banging off the door when closing the door (with window down).I believe this is a common-ish problem as the cars get older. I don't think it's possible to buy replacements - maybe you could fashion something to help? Jaguar part numbers are GJA1718AB and GJA1718BA. Paul

ou mentioned in one of your TH-cam broadcasts (Pollen Filter changing I think), that when removing the windscreen scuttle one had to be careful of a small hook that if broken would allow rain water into the car and wet the carpets. Well I have a problem with wet carpets on the driver’s side which might well be this problem that you describe. Can you provide more detail?
I also have an issue with both windows, (mine is a 16 year old XK8 Coupé) which drop a millimetre on opening but do not subsequently return to fully closed when the car doors are shut. I have tried the trick of pressing the button to fully open and holding the button until I hear a click, and the same in closing, but still it does not want to know.
As I only use the Jaguar on irregular occasions, I have fitted a battery switch to disconnect the battery when I’m not using the car. This stops the battery drain as I was always getting a flat battery. New battery fitted as a result. Would this be the cause of the door windows problem I wonder?
Anyway, keep up the interesting Purdy Show and I will continue watching.

      Hi B. G.
The window drop will happen whenever you disconnect the battery unfortunately so you need to reset the window memory each time you reconnect.
The Rubber band needs to attached to the plastic hook to keep the drain tube connected to the scuttle. If not water is funnelled from the windscreen down into the compartment where the brake servo lives. There is a small aperture to let water drain down at the bottom of there but its easily clogged with debris and will fill the cavity up to the point where the pedal box is bolted into the area above the drivers feet. and then you have wet carpets.
wet carpets can also be caused by corrosion on the floor from the underside around where your heels sit. There is a 8 inch square ish plate of steel welded to the underside of the floor there. (an alignment plate from when the car was on the production line. It tends to encourage the floor to rot and can easily cause a hole.

Thanks for the informative and entertaining videos. These ‘secrets’ should be known to every indi garage working on these cars but this isn’t always the case. A quick check on my 2001 XK8 revealed that the scuttle drain hose on the passenger side had become detached. Access is even more restricted due to the cpu so it’s difficult to check if there’s water sitting in the cavity below. Anyway, I’ve re-attached for now while I think about it!! Thanks again John for taking the trouble to share these ‘secrets’ with us.

Hi John! I just wanted to say a big thank you for showing us all how to remove windscreen washer pipe (push it off don’t pull it off) in a previous video. My Volvo’s washers had blocked so I took your advice, took it all off and put the check flow valves in vinegar overnight. Result? They are now so good that they not only wash my windscreen but the car behind too! Total cost of repairs? Er, £0.00, and that doesn’t happen very often, does it? Cheers again! Nick.

It looks like you might have lifeforms new to science in that little well. The 8 little white oblong plastic screw anchors shown at the lower left at SMPTE timecode 7:00 have a tendency to crack and should be replaced. They are XR82312.

Thanks Gary I think I will order some of those as One did feel line it stripped. Also I have to get one of the Dorchester grey screw covers with the two tiny barbs on. One of mine now only has one barb and is living in the glove box.👍
